Lipstick challenge for January

Don't worry, its not a 'thing' - you don't have to post photos on Facebook or get sponsorship for charity. Just something I'm planning to brighten up a dull January Smile

The idea is that you wear a different lipstick / lipgloss every day through January. I'm planning to stick all of mine in a big box and do a 'lucky dip' every morning. It will be a bit of fun (in a slightly pathetic way) and will be interesting to see which lipsticks I get excited about pulling out and which I'm maybe not that fond of anymore

Anyone else fancy it?

Thanks Pinkie Pie - I'll check chubby sticks out. Something lip balm-ish would indeed work well for me I think; less precision required than a proper lipstick Blush and not as rich a formulation ....
Will report back !

BusterGonad · 29/01/2017 13:18

Claire it's hard to tell in the tube, can we see a swipe on your hand?

Dulcimena · 29/01/2017 13:47

Today it's Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect. It's too warm a nude for me, looks "heavy" and I really don't like shimmery particles on my lips.

Can anyone recommend a similar nude shade, slightly cooler and possibly a touch lighter, no shimmer? I was wondering whether L'Oreal JLo's Nude or Fairest Nude might be worth a shot. I read that Eva's Nude is a close dupe for Bitch Perfect, so comparing swatches for that and the JLo one it looked good...? What would you suggest?

clairethewitch70 · 29/01/2017 18:28

Buster will do, good idea

nickdrakeslovechild · 29/01/2017 22:00

Just joining in a bit late!

Have already binned 3 lipsticks, 2 W7 Matte ones which were rubbing off just leaving a stain in the middle of my lips, and a sweet tart revlon lip butter, it was just a bit meh on me.

I have a huge collection of red lipsticks, but cant seem to find "the one".

madmomma · 29/01/2017 22:53

I am enjoying this thread so much. Let's roll it on in Feb too. Today was a rare burgundy day, and I wore topshop's 'temptation' lipstick blotted down to a stain. The formulation of ts lippies is nothing special particularly, but gosh the colours are great. Really stylish. Their 'hazard' red always gets lots of compliments. It's similar to ruby woo.

BusterGonad · 30/01/2017 03:28

Mad Topshop has stunning lip colours. I have 2 Driven a shimmery purple and Straight Ace the same without the shimmer! Love them both but I hardly wear them! Confused

BusterGonad · 30/01/2017 05:45

Claire is this any good? It's Revlon colour burst lacquer balm, one of the chunky lip pencils. Its Whimsical and a purple pink with lots of shimmer! It's sheer but can be built up to look lovely.

A better picture.

Ok with the chubby sticks in mind I had a bit of a browse in Boots yesterday and gravitated towards Revlon as they seem well-regarded, partic for the price. Ended up buying a balm stain in Crush. The stick itself looks dark plum, it goes on lighter, more like a cool-toned mulberry-ish kind of shade, and stains to a pinky-red. The stain is VERY effective - my lips are still stained this morning from wearing it yesterday Grin
Anyway it's a bit bold so I'm still making my mind up about it but I think I like it .... Hmm it's certainly different enough from the two Laura Mercier gloss shades I've got to make it worth having.

drspouse · 30/01/2017 11:05

Today I am wearing an unidentified Bobbi Brown lipstick as I could not find my reading glasses and DS was very very late getting up.

I may branch out into other unworn makeup next month as I'm running out of lipsticks!

drspouse · 30/01/2017 11:09

Oh I also got one of those Revlon stain sticks and really did NOT like it for that exact reason!

leedy · 30/01/2017 11:53

Today is By Terry's Dare To Bare - lovely rosy colour, lovely texture, but DEAR GOD THE SMELL. It's got a powerful rose perfume that makes me feel like I've just eaten a load of grandma talc after I reapply. Beautiful looking but I think it may be for the bin.

clairethewitch70 · 30/01/2017 12:04

Buster that colour is bit strong pink, nice but similar to other I have.

I have swatted them both now. The first picture is Iron Lady by Miss Selfridge and the second Parma Violet by L'Oreal. Thanks for the help.

Iron Lady looks like Revlon Wild Orchid to me, (probably released at similar times, I think there was a trend going around.) Parma Violet I haven't a clue about. The pictures look so similar! I'll have a look through my stash.

Today's lippie (after not wearing any for three days straight Sad ) is Revlon Coral Berry, which is a very pretty brightish orange coral with a tonne of shimmer, even though the label says it's a creme. (Seriously, I got Apricot Fantasy at the same time which is a pearl finish, and I'd say they're both as shimmery as each other.) This blogger has taken a great picture and you can see the shimmers!
(Note, I don't find Revlon lipsticks drying at all, and my lips are like the Sahara about 90% of the time.)

SapphireSeptember · 30/01/2017 18:37

Dammit Buster! You had to make it look so gosh darn pretty and I want it now! I'm trying to not buy any more make up! (Love you really!)

FrustratedFrugal · 30/01/2017 18:40

Another day with NYX Bloody Mary, a matte cranberry red. Someone asked how to wear reds, an easy way in is to put on a more muted red as a first coat and then add the bright on top. Your lipline will look better and somehow it's easier to pull this off. I only wear reds that don't feather.

FrustratedFrugal · 30/01/2017 18:45

Leedy I sniffed L'Oreal lipsticks when I walked through a department store and my goodness what a blast from the past, they smell very retro, my very first lipstick in the 1980s smelled exactly like that 🙊

BusterGonad · 30/01/2017 18:52

Sapphire you mean Whimsical? It's quite nice but I find it very glittery and slippy, it's a blue toned pink verging on purple. It's not long lasting Big on the lips but a nice unusual colour. I wore a nude pinky peach today, I had smokey eyes. I felt quite bare in the nude so I purchased a Wet n Wild chestnut lip liner to bring my lips out a bit. Really cheap and the longer in length lip pencil I've ever seen! 🤣

BusterGonad · 30/01/2017 18:53

Not sure where Big came from and I meant the longest in length.

BusterGonad · 30/01/2017 18:56

Whimsical, not me by the way! (Obviously not Emma Stone either).

Frustrated L'Oreal lipsticks smell yummy, like sweeties! I like them just for the smell alone!

Buster Yup, it looks lovely! I don't mind slippy lipstick, especially balmy types, and all the Revlon lip crayons smell of peppermint, so I can forgive them. I wish we had Wet 'n' Wild in the UK, I have heard good things about them.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 30/01/2017 19:09

Lancome smell very perfume-y too.

Today I did Nars Rikugien, a neutral. It's OK.

JennyHolzersGhost · 30/01/2017 19:43

Drspouse - do you mean you didn't like it because of the stain or because of the colour change ?
I can see how the fading could be annoying if you thought it would be true to its appearance.

BubblesDarling · 30/01/2017 20:04

So, I've been shopping...I might of brought one or two lipsticks Grin. Would anyone like me swatch?
