This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Austere and leathery sounds fabulous!

Love the name too, even if it is a mouthful! (I am reading Love in the Time of Cholera at the moment and keep getting distracted by words and phrases that I think would make good perfume names should Guerlain ever get back into doing the Real Thing and stop messing around with Petit Robe Noirs....

JasonVorheesMum · 30/10/2016 16:06

That sounds lovely Frugal-but def a lottery win treat. I went a bit crazy on pp last night. Dupes of Scent of a woman, Oud Ispahan and Ambre Nuit. Tomorrow I'm back in Musc Rav, it's a good Autumn shocker.

MissBattleaxe · 30/10/2016 17:14

chowchowchow- I LOVE Good Girl Gone Bad! Kilian was off my radar before that but I've sat up and taken notice since. Wonderful tuberose.

Vintageperfumista- Couldn;t agree more. Love Guerlain but cannot bear La Petite Robe Noir and its 167 flankers.

SOTD Library of Fragrance Pumpkin Pie. I wore it tongue in cheek but it's actually really good. It's very spicy and it smells of good vanilla i.e warm and toasty, rather than cheap cake.

I have just sent an "offer" to an ebay seller for a big bottle of old Vent Vert. It is sealed in its box still, and being touted as original formulation....no polka dots in sight. Eek, I've never sent such a high offer before (50 euro, he is asking 65 but...) on an ebay risk. If it is the real thing, then Perfumed Court want 100 dollars for 5ml of the stuff. If it isn't, oh well, it will undoubtedly still smell green. Grin

Obviously, he has to accept my offer yet!

VintagePerfumista · 30/10/2016 17:43

Oooh, he did!

It's not real money if it's on a credit card, is it?

FrustratedFrugal · 30/10/2016 17:52

I think the world might be a slightly happier place and we might also have peace in Syria if La Petite Robe Noir and its evil sisters disappeared off the face of earth. I don't get migraines but there is something sinus ache inducing about La Petite Robe Noire. I'm sure Putin's girlfriend wears it.

I have a weak spot for Kilians. Beyond Love might be my favorite tuberose, really lush and tropical.

VeryPunny · 30/10/2016 20:02

Hello all you lovely people!

Dug out my Coromandel today which smells totally different than I remember. Also dithering over some more Oud decants - have finished off my Oud Fleur and need a replacement.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 30/10/2016 20:12

You must all smell wonderful today. I'm inspired by truth or dare naked love and have ordered from eBay. I would say I have had good experiences buying there but await arrival of 2 scents that should have been here by now. Cheapys but no response from sellers......
Sotd: diptyque oyedo. Lovely citrus. Really awakening and fresh. Was so tempted by a fb except 2 hours later it's gone. Know it's a cologne but pretty pricey.
frustrated, vintage hear you about LPR. I had no idea of guerlains amazing history and wouldn't have guessed with that one.

BaronessBomburst · 30/10/2016 21:17

I have fallen in love. Totally, utterly, and hopelessly. Warm, spicy, incense, vanilla; SOTD is Miller Harris La Fumée Arabie.
Hopelessly in love because it's way out of my price range.

I so love Tauer L'Air du Desert Marocain too.
I like Chanel Coco a lot, but it's just not as amazing, as breathtakingly beautiful. Or as subtle. Grin
Why can't I love something cheap?!
and yes, I do realise that they smell pretty similar

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 30/10/2016 22:21

Oooo baroness that sounds amazing. My sotd for tmw is a sample of la fumee as I loved the sound of it on fragrantica. But yours even sounds better! How much (asking for friend)?

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/10/2016 23:14

I really, really like the newish Etat Libre d'Orange "Hermann a mes cotes me parassait une ombre". Had a squirt of that the other day, along with Fat Electrician, which I also really like, and Hermann has the edge. Smoky, lemony, woody, some flowers, but nothing sweet.

BaronessBomburst · 30/10/2016 23:42

I'm tired, am I reading those names right, MrsSchadenfreude? 😂😂

Well, Pinkie, samples can be had from Skins.nl for €15 for 5, so I'll be trying some more in the Fumée range. A full bottle will set you back €210. And PP don't do a dupe; I checked straight away!

ReadyToSignOff · 31/10/2016 00:10

Fat Electrician?! Poooey! Halloween Confused SOTD is Perfume Parlour Kaarma (or Karmaa, I can't remember), which is lovely Smile

VintagePerfumista · 31/10/2016 06:55

I wonder who Hermann is? Was? I like the sound of that one.

I am off to the post office to hopefully collect a bottle of old Diorissimo, some vintage baubles and a gap sweatshirt. What I'll probably come back with (this is Italy remember) is an electricity bill from a house I no longer live in, a full bladder and raised blood pressure. (am already cross with postman in new house because I keep opening the main gate for him (ie he knows I am in!) then when I go out, he has left a "tried to deliver" note)

No Sotd yet, wrist smells nice now Apres L'Ondee has lost his violets. It would be lovely without them, but I guess they are its point!

ReadyToSignOff · 31/10/2016 07:31

Perhaps this is Hermann? www.hermanthegermanfriendshipcake.com/
He was indeed delicious, but I had to kill him off in the end as I enjoyed him a bit too much Sad

PinkissimoAndPearls · 31/10/2016 08:57

Fat Electrician!! Grin

Please tell me that's an autocorrect Mrs I cannot imagine what for though!

Or are you truly drifting around in a scented mist reminiscent of fuse wire, pliers, sweat and bacon butties?

SOTD here is Paloma Picasso for a nostalgia hit.

BaronessBomburst · 31/10/2016 10:01

It's true. Hermann and the Fat Electrician. I googled. Apparently Fat Electrician has undertones of butt crack. It says so on Fragrantica.

BaronessBomburst · 31/10/2016 10:04

SOTD is Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady. Only just sprayed and so far I'm getting lots of jammy raspberries, roses, and some savoury herb. Cinnamon? Bay?
According to Fragrantica all the men in the office will fall at my feet.
I'm working from home today.

VintagePerfumista · 31/10/2016 11:50

Watch out for any tradesmen then Baroness!

One of my packages was indeed the Diorissimo...what a bargain, I think I got it for 14 euro, an almost full 50ml bottle of old stuff.

It's very beautiful, shows how "sweet" doesn't have to smell pink. Massive hit of Lily of the Valley obvs at the moment. Not at all suitable for late Autumn!

BaronessBomburst · 31/10/2016 14:33

I still smell utterly delictable, of raspberry jam and roses, and occasionally a whiff of incense. There was a scary moment when cleaning my teeth and the toothpaste bought the patchouli to the fore, but it soon passed.
I don't know why people have reviewed this as fading quickly; it's still going strong on me. It's quite nice. I'd wear it again.
next time I'm in the office

BaronessBomburst · 31/10/2016 14:36

Delictable?
Delectable!

Calminaqualm · 31/10/2016 15:48

Portrait of a Lady is one of the very few perfumes that I got compliments on, from a shop assistant. She called her colleague over to have a sniff! I had layered it with some body cream (Refan Yogurt and Rose Oil Body Cream-Butter). The scent lasted all day. I adore it and definitely plan to buy a FB. I originally had it as a sample, but sadly now just have the empty phial to savour! To me it was a rich, true rose with an underlying spicy, incense scent.

VintagePerfumista · 31/10/2016 19:05

Youth Dew (PP version) this evening after my shower. Love it. Gone on FB wishlist and reminded me immediately of my mum's best friend when I was little, so she must have worn it. Haven't seen her for more than 20 years!

Badders123 · 31/10/2016 19:17

Tell me more about youth dew.....

user1471503992 · 31/10/2016 19:26

SOTD was Tauer Reverie au Jardin. Meh. It is supposed to be very fresh but to me it smells like old lady soap with a slightly chemical tone. I had a shower at lunchtime after a run and put some 4160 Tuesdays Rome 1963 on instead - white flowers and tobacco - really nice for summer but somehow also doesn't feel right for this weather.

I have a sample of Portrait of a Lady, Baroness, might give that another try in cold weather - I found it a bit too strong in summer. Lovely combination but overpowering!
