Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

ready not my guess at all but love the game. I def need to try sycamore now. Sounds right up my street!

ReadyToSignOff · 19/10/2016 22:19

Wow OCSock a hundred or more perfumes - you must have a perfume library! You are right to suit yourself and wear what you like; I have lost touch with perfumes I have loved in the past as other people have not been positive about them (I'm particularly thinking about original Opium here). There are so many fragrances out there to enjoy and it's easy to get stuck in a rut.

Cockblocktopus · 20/10/2016 08:55

I adore Sycomore. Wish I had bought a fb and can't find any samples in Aus. :(

OCSockOrphanage · 20/10/2016 09:20

I've only bought one FB in recent years, and that was Fire (so nearly free) and DS gave me Infusion d'Iris for a big birthday this year. When I like something a lot, a 5-10ml decant is more than enough and only a few get used up and replaced.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 20/10/2016 10:07

Love the description Ready!

In Panache Grin today as have still got some Chanel 19 lingering on me from yesterday (unshowered skank that I am)

Took delivery of Barbara Herman's book yesterday. Looks fabulous.

BaronessBomburst · 20/10/2016 12:47

The Lynx fragrances have made it to NL!
I've picked up free samples of Tobacco and Amber, and Iced Musk and Ginger, and a full bottle of Oud Wood and Dark Vanilla for DS. He's chuffed to bits.
They're clearly aiming for the Christmas market as there are displays and adverts popping up all over the place.

SOTD is Black Orcheeds again, as I am also a skank and am wearing the same dress as yesterday which still reeks of the stuff. It's a good reek though.

I'm still tempted by this Russian, probably nicked Coromandel sample.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 20/10/2016 13:16

I'm in coromandel today, it's officially cold now.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 20/10/2016 13:42

Coromandel in UK

This is the Scottish Etsy seller I got my Cuir de Russie and Bel Respiro from.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 20/10/2016 13:42

Just remembered I never linked my nice German seller, will go and find it.

BaronessBomburst · 20/10/2016 14:09

I'm already watching her! Its €9 for postage though. I'd have to buy several samples to make it cost effective.... Grin Grin

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 20/10/2016 14:21

World of Scent is the ebay seller. Seems to vary what he has. No Chanel at the moment, yet I got 22 and Rue Cambon from him 2 weeks ago.

PinkissimoAndPearls · 20/10/2016 17:06

I love love love Coromandel, I love the word even!

I can report that the Perfume Parlour Lush dupes were good. The Karma copy actually smells so similar, perhaps a touch less orange in it. DH and I had the following conversation when I wore it:

DH: what's that smell, it smells like disinfectant?
Me: Is it Zoflora, I wiped the table with it earlier?
DH: No, it smells like it smells like those hippy shops you used to buy velvet skirts and incense and shit from...
Me: oh that's my perfume
DH: Oh. It's nice

BaronessBomburst · 20/10/2016 18:20

Pinkissimo 😂😂

Right, you lot are a bad influence, especially you, Dark!

I have this afternoon ordered samples of:
Apres L'Ondee
Bois des Iles and
Coromandel from above mentioned Etsy seller

And

Caleche
Portrait of a Lady
Lady Vengeance
Vengeance Extreme and
Miller Harris La Fumee Arabie from a Dutch cosmetics chain.

I've started compiling a Tauer list too, and I've not even looked at that eBay seller yet.....
Ooops.

Well, after the splendid description of Sycomore overpage, I have had a shower (finally!) and am in Perfume Parlour Sycomore. Not sure how true to the original it is, I only smelled the original at Stansted a couple of times, but the PP version is strong stuff. I have just sneezed a zillion times, because I think with the dupe roll-ons I'm never sure how much to apply!

I started reading the Scent and Subversion book and got no further than the introduction before I scuttled off to ebay/etsy etc to try and find a vintage sample of Bandit!

OCSockOrphanage · 20/10/2016 20:10

Lady Vengeance and the Extreme version are among my favourites Baroness. Strong contenders for decants, if only I can find someone who does them.

SoTD was the Hermes rhubarb (sorry, CBA to find the real name) from S/S16 plus a quick spritz of calone, by accident. One I cadged; the latter I bought. Good blend, giving them both depth and length.

After the horrid reaction to Bond No 9's New Haarlem, I went back to the scent notes for it. Lavender, bergamot, tonka and most of the other notes are fresh and all good for me, so why did it smell like curried skunk? Nothing, but nothing indicated the real juice. I wonder if it was an error, or turned stale. (Have never had a really stale sample).

Itwillbefine · 20/10/2016 21:32

Can I ask you lovely people for some advice on eBay purchases?

Reading on here a while ago I saw suggested perfumes no longer made are available on eBay. I want Clinique simply, I wore it on my wedding day...how do you know it's not fake when buying it like that?

TIA

Judydreamsofhorses · 20/10/2016 21:35

SOTD was a sample of Heeley Eau de Sacree - dear god, I love it. I can't afford another Heeley just now after buying Hippie Rose earlier in the month and Sel Marin at the beginning of the summer, does anyone know of a cheaper similar scent?

MissBattleaxe · 20/10/2016 21:40

Itwillbefine: I have never had any trouble with ebay perfume purchases. Ebay comes down pretty hard on fakers. It's definitely worth a shot.

Just seen that the Dutch site I ordered from is also in English and delivers worldwide. Can't make head nor tail of their postage costs though. Confused
I paid €15 for five 1.5ml samples, and €2,20 postage.

www.skins.nl

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 21/10/2016 13:15

Was that one of the sample packs? Because it is giving me 4,95 euro for postage.

I think I probably have a desperate visceral need for their green sampler set, their chypre one and their hout one (whatever hout is Grin)

I am in Apres L'Ondee. It confuses me, as I keep saying. It's the wrong way round. It starts sweet and powdery and then gets fresher and more as I thought it would be all the way through.

must stop buying things based on the name

FannyWincham · 21/10/2016 14:08

Has anyone tried the perfume parlour versions of No22 or Sycomore?

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 21/10/2016 16:58

Yes, I have both. I love the Sycomore, not sure how true to the real thing it is, because when I get my hands on the exclusifs in airports etc I tend to make a beeline for Coromandel and Rue Cambon, but even if it's not identical it's nice enough for a punt IMO.

I have both a sample of real 22 and a PP version and hate both. Grin

I am now in vintage Dune (courtesy of a lovely perfumista not far from this thread) Immediately transported back to Liverpool and early 1994 just as I was about to be utterly reckless and pack my belongings in a backpack and leave the UK for furrin parts.

By heck but it's sweet. I still love that first unique whatever-it-is, but I'd certainly not wear it if not wanting a hit of nostalgia. (kind of like Anais Anais in that respect- I love it for the memories it conjures) Smile

BaronessBomburst · 21/10/2016 19:26

Hout is wood.

OCSockOrphanage · 21/10/2016 21:02

You have just joined the enablers club Baroness. That is a very tempting sample site.

Most recently, my favourites have been the Heeleys a lovely perfumista near here sent me. I just can't decide whether it's the Chypre 21 or the Sel Marin, but it's my latest fan girl fave.

OCSockOrphanage · 21/10/2016 21:03

Do you think we should have badges, like trip advisor?
