Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Will we get regular emails saying that we're now on a roll and how much everyone is enjoying our reviews?
Even though I've only written two and they're both so obscure that no one ever checks them out? 😂

SlinkyVagabond · 21/10/2016 22:56

I forgot I have pp sycamores, trouble is the labels become unreadable after being bumped about in my handbag, so don't know which it is. But I'm getting the spray, like them better than roll on.
I found two Lutyens samples, hooray! Had a squirt of Ambre Sultan, bloody lovely. Off to London tomorrow to meet with minted old fashionista friend, this may be the scent.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 22/10/2016 07:49

I love the look of those sample sets baroness. May need to select a few. I think of it as doing our bit for continental relations.
Sotd Burberry weekend. Awful pong. Used to wear at university so not sure if gone off or I always smelt like this. Staying at my parents and saw it lurking in cabinet.
Today I'm going to go into town child-free and see what scent my £20 boots vouchers can run to! Then maybe a couple of pp dupes too but in spray form as roll on too annoying.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 22/10/2016 08:20

Vintage Ysatis today, because a) it's autumnal and you need amber in autumn and b) have stinking cold and need something to smack me round the olfactories.

Will wander over to skins later (not a very nice name! I thought Baroness was going to be encouraging us to get perfume-tats or something!) and treat myself. For a change lol.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 22/10/2016 08:21

I have also contaminated my friend who is usually in some DKNY trendy thingy, and is now rocking vintage Avon Grin

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 22/10/2016 09:04

All this talk of autumn has sent me to perfumista website to order some amber samples to test out. Will keep you posted!

SlinkyVagabond · 22/10/2016 09:19

Morning oh scented ones. Sotd is the other SL sample, forgot what it is, but it's a huge green monster, which is fine as I want to be tres chic and the sun is out. Ambre sultan this evening.going to spend my journey reading perfume blogs.

Cockblocktopus · 22/10/2016 16:19

Tonight was date night. SOTNight was Tom Ford Soleil Blanc.

I got lucky DH likes it. ShockGrin

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 22/10/2016 18:21

cock that's one of my samples ordered today.
Sotd is Dune on right wrist and guerlain heritage on left. Found some really ancient samples in my MILs bathroom. Wonderful full bodied fragrances that I would have dismissed as old-fashioned until I joined this thread and learnt more. Thanks to all who helped my education. To the pp who is lusting after Dune, I get it. Might have to borrow some more for my night out tonight!

ReadyToSignOff · 22/10/2016 23:11

Dune is gorgeous - I have just rediscovered a vintage bottle with a teeny bit left, so will eek it out! It makes me feel as if I am in the painting 'Christ in the house of his parents' by Millais... I am not religious at all, but I am a fan of the Pre-Raphaelites. All those delicious woody, hot, dry spicy smells; exactly like a biblical carpenter's workshop (at least in my crazy imagination!)

SlinkyVagabond · 22/10/2016 23:46

Oh my dears, been out round that London with my super chic friend. We had a wander round liberty's fragrance hall. So many, many perfumes Ive only ever read about. Id died and gone to scent heaven.
Sot evening was ambre sultan.

AnotherPinkiePieStory · 23/10/2016 08:33

Oh slinky it sounds a bit like heaven.
Yes I can get the carpenter shop vibe ready. Going to sneak into downstairs bathroom for some again today!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 23/10/2016 09:17

I love your descriptions Ready! I popped Vol de Nuit on last night (PP version) but my cold had taken too much of a hold to appreciate it. Looks like for the next few days I'm going to be anosmic (unless I opt for a whopper like Seville a l'aube or the hideous 22! )

BaronessBomburst · 23/10/2016 13:21

SOTD is Lynx Tobacco and Amber. DS is wearing it. It's actually very pleasant but it's permeated the whole house and nothing else is going to stand a chance.

OCSockOrphanage · 23/10/2016 16:07

Liberty's perfume hall is to die for... when I had a reason to be in London most weeks (for work) I spent lots of time, and some money, there. And I understand it has only got better, so [jealous] As you say, heaven. Horrids' perfume department is good too.

OCSockOrphanage · 23/10/2016 16:08

That should have read Envy.

ReadyToSignOff · 23/10/2016 20:57

Liberty is my favourite shop in the whole wide world. However... I have been in York this weekend which has been a little bit of perfume heaven. As well as Lush, an extensive Boots and Superdrug perfumery counter, there is a Perfume Shop branch, L'Occitane, Crabtree & Evelyn, Jo Malone, Browns department store and Burgin's Perfumery (which is very reminiscent of Burgin and Bourke down Knockturn Alley!). I have managed to cross quite a few scents off my 'must try' list. The perfume chooses the perfumista... Wink

SlinkyVagabond · 24/10/2016 17:36

Horrids is very apt actually. I always think it's a bit...déclassé (despite how expensive it is.) we were just round the corner from the new(?) selfridges but didn't have enough time.
Anyone tried the new Bronnley scents? They were in boots, about 15 quid. The green one is woefully misnamed, as it's a big inscencey amber thing, a bit sweet but hanging on after three hours.

OCSockOrphanage · 24/10/2016 20:57

Slinky, glance at the inverted snobbery thread that's currently hot. Horrid's is declasse (can't do accents here), but only because it assumes the best is only available to people with money. All perfumistas know that cash cannot buy class, taste reigns supreme.

SlinkyVagabond · 24/10/2016 21:19

That's apparent from our love for Tweed and L'aimant alongside all the niche scents.
Anyway, the Bronnley is still going strong, not a silage monster, but for a cheapy It's ok, not remarkable.
So I'm heading over to tk maxx to see if there's any Lutyens left. Decided dh can get it me for Christmas.

BaronessBomburst · 24/10/2016 21:42

I think DH may be getting me Coco by Chanel for Christmas. He keeps sidling up behind me and commenting that it has an effect on him.
I said,"that's good to know darling, I'll be spraying some on the lawn mower come the weekend then."
He was not impressed. 😂

Cockblocktopus · 25/10/2016 04:35

Baroness Grin

My mum taught a boy in a smart prep in Sevenoaks (about an hour by car south of London). The family only shopped in harrods food hall Shock. The mum confirmed it. Even bread and milk.

ReadyToSignOff · 25/10/2016 07:47

To be fair, Harrods' food hall is amazing, even if you are just visiting for a look around... the designer dog clothes section, not so great (but very funny)! Halloween Grin

SlinkyVagabond · 25/10/2016 10:23

IT is a triumph of money over taste to be sure. I remember going with dh many many moons ago, his little brother had asked him to bring back a (original)transformer. He'd found it in Horrids toy section but was ££££. A very well dressed woman was near us, we thought she was sneering, but she whispered to us Sotto voce-Go to woolies, it's a rip off in here!
Anyway I digress from scents. I've always shied away from sjp, but super drug have little Christmas baubles with a bottle in for a fiver, also they have the pump body spray for 10. Will be directing my skint kids in that direction.
Scent of the day, haven't decided yet, I think a lucky dip into my pp mysteries. Need something prosaic, not doing anything except housework, so maybe a dab of zoflora. Grin

BaronessBomburst · 25/10/2016 11:20

What is this Zoflora I keep seeing mentioned on MN?
