Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

You're welcome. That should be YSL not YLI. This heat is doing things to my brain.

Speaking of which- what's everyon e wearing in the heatwave? I'm wearing Miller Harris Le Pamplemousse. I am totally in love with it and it is currently on sale in the Covent Garden shop if you happen to be near.

MissB, I agree about Secretions Magnifiques - dreadful stuff!

My heatwave scent was Furze by Lush. A milky, custardy vanilla with a bit of wet greenery and a hint of coconut. It's uncomplicated and it really glows in the heat.

ToElle, I wanted Jeux de Peau to have more to it so thanks for the Dries van Noten recommendation.

SOTD: MFK Baccarat Rouge 540. Sweet and 'chewy' ambergris heaven. So perfect for today’s thunderstorm. In some fragrances, I sense a very prominent ‘chewiness’ - maybe the ambergris or resins - and I love it. It has a touch of realistic rose that’s sugared. it turns beautifully metallic and veers away from being saccharine. It's great. It deserves to be a FB buy. I won’t as it’s too expensive but mainly because, on my skin, All Good Things by Lush smells exactly the same.

Judydreamsofhorses · 20/07/2016 17:22

The heatwave is over here so today was Frederick Malle Lipstick Rose. I love this so very much. I had a couple of samples last year, but couldn't afford it, then my partner bought me a full bottle for my birthday. (I had to email him the link to the Les Senteurs website!)

cressetmama · 20/07/2016 20:45

Didn't realise that Scent & Sensibility was the shipper Blush. Goldmund was a nice baby lotion smell.

Loyly I am the only fan of Secretions. It's the perfect smell for a boating holiday, in case you need to know.

Have been away to visit DMIL through her brother's last illness. Took no scent.

The heatwave has passed through here too.

cressetmama · 20/07/2016 20:48

Has also read good reviews for the Dries von Noten, from a blogger whose tastes usually chime with mine.

teta · 20/07/2016 22:47

Nerolia Bianca today as it was too hot even for my Eau d' artisan to last more than a few minutes. The Nerolia lasted beautifully for many hours after copious sprays. My Pamplelune which I used to adore now smells sulphurous and nasty .I don't think the perfumes turned as the initial smell is still lovely, its me who's changed.

Littlemissindifferent · 20/07/2016 23:21

I'm new to this thread but felt the need to post as today I've fallen in love again with Chanel No5 .after a visit to the makeup counter. I can still smell it nearly 10 hours later.

I don't know others views on it but It feels/smells really classy and reminds me of good times past. I'm scared to look how much it costs now!

For others who have recommended perfumes there are some I haven't heard of. Where are you finding them as I don't think they sell them in my local department store? Are you going elsewhere?

ToElleWithIt · 21/07/2016 08:15

loyly That Baccarat sounds lovely. I've never even thought of Lush for perfumes, I must have a browse

teta that's so funny you should say that. I gave a half bottle of Pamplelune to my sister last year after going off it just like that. I liked it, then couldn't stand it.

Tried a sample of Carner Palo Santo last night - sweet, milky, a little boozy and all wrong in this weather! I'm not convinced, but I'll give it another outing later in the year.

I'm wearing Profumum Roma Ichnusa. I love it on summer days - green fig into creamy fig and it lasts and lasts.

LittleMissIndifferent I have one boutique perfume shop in the city I live in that stocks a good selection of niche brands. When I buy there I usually get a good few sample bottles to try which is a really nice way to figure out what I like. You can also buy samples / decants online. I'm sure others can recommend some good sources. There are lots of good options on the high street too though.

BaronessBomburst · 22/07/2016 13:17

I nearly posted my heat wave scent but thought you'd kick me of the thread if I did.
It's Bronnely's Eau de Cologne Camelia body splash. Blush
But honestly, it's great.
I splash it all over after a shower and it's the best deodorant ever. It neutralises all sweat smells and you'll just smell clean and lightly flowery. It's 35 here too.
The extra bonus is that the mosquitoes don't seem to like it and they bite DH instead.

BaronessBomburst · 22/07/2016 13:21

And on a more sophisticated note, I got the perfume!
It's 1987-1989 by my reckoning. There were 15 bids on it. 100ml bottle. It's been posted to my brother's as I'm overseas so won't be able to pick it up until next month.

I will update when I sniff it!

Today, however, is cooler so will be Chanel Chance. I was given it but it's growing on me.
I've since investigated more Chanel scents, and have a hankering for Coco.

MsRinky · 22/07/2016 13:58

My Rose Ribes from 4160 Tuesdays has just arrived! It's a blackcurrant rose chypre, and is bloody gorgeous.

MissBattleaxe · 22/07/2016 14:12

Ooh, Rose Ribes isn't even out yet! Did you crowd fund? I'm impressed and jealous!

Baroness- you will never be kicked off the thread. I love Bronnley, Yardley and Crabtree & Evelyn. That sounds like a great choice.

OP posts:
MsRinky · 22/07/2016 14:16

Yes, I crowdfunded, but you can order it via the secret shop section on the website. I'll report back tomorrow with how it develops and lasts.

Judydreamsofhorses · 22/07/2016 19:59

SOTD was Bronze Goddess. Yesterday I forgot this thread, and it was JHAG Mad Madame.

CointreauVersial · 22/07/2016 20:20

Judy - my SOTD was Creed Virgin Island Water, in a similar beachy vibe.

MrsRinky - is the blackcurrant more tart than blackberry? The latter is one of my pet hates in fragrance.

toopeoply · 22/07/2016 20:22

I've just bought the new Tom Ford, Soleil I think it's called. It's gorgeous.

cressetmama · 22/07/2016 20:56

Having said I had gone off the Bvlgari Eaux, I caught a whiff of my fleece cuffs today, and was instantly in love with it again.

It's almost better secondhand, or second time around.

BrillianaHarvey · 22/07/2016 22:16

SOTD is Il Giardino by Pantheon - a powdery citrus rose. Cologne in a summer garden.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 23/07/2016 23:01

SOTD is gorgeous Clinique Happy Heart. It is a glorious, soapy wonder! I smell like I have just had a shower with Pears. It is just yum!!

goiaba · 24/07/2016 01:03

During this heatwave I'm currently wearing 2 fragrances (not together). Sisley Eau Tropicale, which is a nice floral and I'm yet to meet someone who doesn't like it, and Pure Grace from philosophy which is a fresh and light scent, perfect for refreshing during hot days.

CalmItKermitt · 24/07/2016 01:32

Right Perfumistas! On the look out for a new smell!!

I like: more masculine scents. Used to LOVE Ultima 2 Sheer Scent (tragically discontinued) Smelled like a lighter Fahrenheit.

I tend to use Lynx-y type shower gel as I hate vanilla-y, flowery scents.

Also dislike fruity scents a la Vera Wang Princess.

Currently wearing Narciso Rodriguez For Her.

What should I try?

BaronessBomburst · 24/07/2016 09:45

SOTD was La Vie est Belle by Lancôme after MIL gave me a squirt. It smells nice on her. To say I didn't like it was an understatement. I was washing it off my wrists at 3am as the smell was keeping me awake.

CathemeralChild · 24/07/2016 09:50

Definitely not La Vie est Belle, CalmItKermitt! It's sickly sweet, with chocolate, vanilla, and toffee smells.
And yet it smells nice on MIL.

MsRinky · 24/07/2016 09:53

Still loving my Rose Ribes. The blackcurrant is leafy and herbal, not at all sickly or jammy. Yesterday I was wearing it and in the evening put on a scarf that was wafting L'artisan Oeillet Sauvage, and the combination with the carnation was amazing.
