Lovely, friendly perfume lovers thread

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 22:26

This thread continues from our perfumistas thread which is now full. It is a lovely and friendly thread in which we discuss all things perfume-y, and ask for tips and share opinions and SOTDs ( Scent of The Day). Do drop in- we're not cliquey and we all smell nice.

Ggirl I love Beige and would love to buy a bottle, but how?Live in rural West Mids. and there is no Chanel Boutique in sight sadly. There are lots of minis on eBay but are they trustworthy?
Sotd is Chanel No. 19 plus Cristalle ( from Boots sprays).Love No. 19 but lasts for literally a few minutes - pathetic longevity.Cristalle is very reminiscent of Ormonde Jayne's Tiare - both very green, lush Florals with Oakmoss and Vetiver .

ggirl · 28/07/2016 23:37

I may have to go to London then , assuming Selfridges ,Libertys or the like will sell them. It was in Brown Thomas dept store in Dublin that I discovered I really really want one.

MissBattleaxe · 29/07/2016 11:10

LastGirl- is that the Poudree version? I loved that.

Am about to blind buy either fleur du sel or fleurs du matin (both miller Harris) Which do I go for?!

hollinhurst84 · 29/07/2016 14:03

SOTD 4160 Tuesday's - mother natures naughty daughters. Adore. Have ordered a full size and also rose ribes from them which is a blind buy < wibble >

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 29/07/2016 14:15

SOTD is McQueen MyQueen. sadly discontinued as it's gorgeous.powdery parma violets, iris and almonds mixed with patchouli, white flowers and orange blossom. i managed to grab a couple of bottles for basically pennies and i use it very sparingly as i dont know if i'll ever get any more of it. it's really lovely so if you ever see it, grab it while you can!

teta · 29/07/2016 15:10

I love Fleurs du Matin but dislike Fleurs de Sel.Fleurs du matin is in a similar vein to Cristalle and Tiare - all being cool green lush florals.
If you're buying from you know where (not to be mentioned) you can return them.My local store let me do this but then I order loads of perfume and they know me.
California Reverie today as I love the orange and Frangipani on a dull day.I've used up a big bottle in about 4 months.

FrustratedFrugal · 29/07/2016 16:36

Ggirl if a trip out of town is impractical, you can mail order Beige via email from Place Vendome Haute Parfumerie in Belgium. You will need to pay for shipping but will get fabulous things as freebies. Much nicer than shopping in the Chanel boutique or a depratment store ime.

ggirl · 29/07/2016 17:25

FrustratedFrugal thank you , I will order from them when it's a bit closer to christmas. Have you ordered from them before?

FrustratedFrugal · 29/07/2016 17:49

Yes, many times. Even when I lived walking distance from a Chanel boutique. The payment is via bank transfer. This and Crystal Flacon are the best things out there.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 29/07/2016 21:50

Yes MissB...poudree. The drydown is something else!

Does anyone else here like Caleche? I wore it today as my SOTD and just felt like royalty!! Ok, not really...but I did feel very rich and elegant. So lovely. It was a bottle I inherited from my mum. The vintage holds so well.

ggirl · 30/07/2016 09:54

ok I am going to London tomorrow , dd lives there and we're going sniffing.
where do they stock chanel les exclusif ?

cressetmama · 30/07/2016 16:07

My super-sophisticated aunt wore Caleche for years! I will always associate it with her. It doesn't really suit me.

Thanks to Frugal's encyclopaedic knowledge of European perfumery, I have just e-mailed a small list of things to Crystal Flacon, including 10ml each of Equistrius and Vetiver Tonka and samples of Lonesome Rider and Wode. The decants are safe choices: I've worn both lots, but do not really want FBs as they are too big/expensive.

The samples are random curiosity. MissBattleaxe reckoned the Wode was good, and we often like similar things. Trying the Tauers is not easy out in the sticks. I want to like Lonestar Memories, but the coal tar pine and resin treads too close to the Marlborough cowboy's boots.

SoTD is Prada Iris on one wrist, and Iris Cedre on the other. Nice light summery, and the Cedre gives a distinct hit of expensive pencil shavings.

CointreauVersial · 31/07/2016 15:55

Stopped by HoF yesterday and sampled two fragrances...didn't like either!

Tom Ford Orchid Soleil (I was pounced on at the door by bottle-wielding gentleman) - too much tuberose for me, followed by some rather sweet vanilla.

And Hermes Cuir D'Ange, which I liked from the description - but I didn't like the butch leather with powdery musk overtones. Just didn't do it for me as a combination. I did however take the opportunity, while at the Hermes counter, of slathering DH with Terre D'Hermes EdP. Mmmm....

BaronessBomburst · 31/07/2016 18:18

Surfing French eBay and I've just come across a vintage perfume called Golliwogg by Vigny. Shock
The same seller has Lanvin Crescendo too, if anyone's interested.
I'm making a list on my phone of things I want to try. Can anyone recommend a good sample service?
I notice lots of eBay sellers offer popular perfumes in 5ml unbranded atomisers. The reviews generally seem to be okay.
Has anyone ever risked it?

Judydreamsofhorses · 31/07/2016 18:43

SOTD here is Diptyque Philosykos. Slightly hungover so needed something a bit fresh and zingy.

MissBattleaxe · 31/07/2016 18:45

Baroness- are you in the UK?

OP posts:
ggirl · 31/07/2016 19:18

Had a wonderful time in harrods today , went to decide on which chanel exclusif i preferred , decided on beige but then got sidetracked into the Roja and Clive Christian perfumes and have decided that I adore Clive Christian X ..
We had a loads of help from the sales assistant in ROja who was helping us determine our preferences .

Dd was sprayed liberally with a 2.5grand Roja scent ...doesnt want to wash again..lol

CointreauVersial · 31/07/2016 20:32

Baroness - I buy eBay decants all the time, and have never had a duff one. Just read the reviews, and check out what else they are selling. I also buy half-used bottles the same way. I honestly can't afford FB purchases.

BaronessBomburst · 31/07/2016 22:22

I'm in the Netherlands, but have a long-suffering family used to taking in eBay parcels for me.
And I've found a supplier of niche perfumes based in NL! They'll do five samples for €15.
What should I buy?!

BaronessBomburst · 31/07/2016 22:26

Here

BaronessBomburst · 31/07/2016 22:39

I like rich, spicy, incense, and oriental perfumes. Maja, Coco, Arpege, neroli and jasmine body sprays, bubble baths with ylang ylang, patchouli, and cloves.
But I also love roses and M&S Isis which is a dupe for Issey Miyake.
Not so keen on anything sweet, and vanilla reminds me of custard.
I thought I'd try Caleche, so can pick another four.
Any suggestions?
I'm going to buy some decants too and have picked out some sellers with good reviews.

BaronessBomburst · 31/07/2016 22:41

ggirl I am envious! Grin

ToElleWithIt · 01/08/2016 07:49

ggirl Sounds like a lovely day

cresset those all sound super interesting.

Baroness I'm sure the others who have much broader knowledge will have lots of lovely recommendations, but when you say you like roses and incense Frederic Maille's Portrait of a Lady may be worth a try - not for everyone, but certainly hits those notes.

My sample of Aedes arrived - lovely packaging and the 10ml size is just right! Enough to decently try it out and perfect for popping in a handbag.

Tried a tester of Histoire de parfums 1969 yesterday - not for me at all. Peaches and chocolate. It doesn't even sound appealing as a desert.

SOTD is Ormonde Jayne Ta'if

CorrigansDoorKnob · 01/08/2016 10:06

Hello, I wonder if you guys can help me. I've lurked and occasionally posted on these threads and i've discovered so many wonderful perfumes thanks to your suggestions.

My favourite collection is the Chanel Les Exclusifs. I had a couple of decants from surrender to chance and just went to order another. BUT... Chanel has completely disappeared off their list of stock. Does anyone know anything more? Do you think Chanel threatened legal action for selling decants? And my final question - where can I get a decant of Bois des Iles or Coromandel? It's winter here where I live and l love to wear them when it's cold. Coromandel in particular is like a big warm hug on a grey day Smile
