Help! Do I look like a twit?

DP has just informed me that he has arranged swanky birthday drinks for me tomorrow. Have delved into my wardrobe in a bit of a mad panic.

Are people going to look at me with raised eyebrows...? I know most people will not give a tiny rats behind.

This is a little more daring than I would usually wear... I need reassurance or alternatively an intervention before I wear this out of the house.

Will obviously wear magic pants to keep the jiggly bits in... Blush I am also aware I am slovenly and the mirror is filthy...

I've RTFT and agree with a poster who suggested stitching the dress up an inch or two, as it doesn't look quite balanced.
You do look amazing in it, but as others have said, the shoes don't work. I'd go for red heels and clutch (I love bright accessories), perhaps a gold choker, and if you're wearing your hair up, something small and red (or whatever colour works for you) clipped into your hair.
Have a fab time!

DavetheCat2001 · 10/07/2016 11:10

I wonder if the OP has run screaming from this thread...

Nksw · 10/07/2016 11:19

Have given it the occasional glance Dave... No running and screaming as I did ask for truthful opinions - which is exactly what I got!

However as I started the morning with bolly and cake and have no intention of stopping, by the time I wear the damn thing I don't think i'll give a shit what others think.

Glad of the opinions and suggestions. Black shoes and a stitch it is. Thanks!

Happy Sunday all!

Good good OP..and Happy Birthday!

Where is the dress from out of interest? I did say upthread that it wasn't my cup of tea, but you can carry it off (not many could!) Smile

AnnaMarlowe · 10/07/2016 12:10

Nksw Happy Birthday!

Flowers as you already have cake.

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 10/07/2016 13:11

I could have worn this in my late teens/early 20s. I'm a bit Sad that I didn't tbh (not that it wouldn't have looked a little out of place in the kind of pubs I used to frequent!).

Springdew · 10/07/2016 13:36

You look absolutely amazing. I don't think it needs adjusting, only if you prefer it that way. Happy birthday to you!

PollyPerky · 10/07/2016 15:16

Sorry but I don't like it. You have a nice slim figure but a dress cut to the waist is - only imo- screaming 'look at me' and is a bit trashy. Sorry.

StephenKatz · 10/07/2016 16:22

Happy birthday! Wear it - you'll look fabulous!

CakeNinja · 10/07/2016 16:39

I think you look absolutely fantastic, love the dress, you've got just the perfect figure to wear it and show it off, enjoy your special day, happy birthday! Wine
I am super jealous, wish I had a smaller and perkier chest and a much more narrow frame! Stupid pear hips!!
I say don't bother putting a stitch in it. Where are you going? You might look a bit fancy for a wetherspoons, mind Grin

CakeNinja · 10/07/2016 16:43

And you have a lovely jawline too. Now I'm really jealous!

ScarletForYa · 10/07/2016 16:45

Glad you decided to ditch the nude heels! I think they're dated and didn't go with the dress.

A stitch will make the dress perfect!

Queenbean · 10/07/2016 17:07

However as I started the morning with bolly and cake and have no intention of stopping, by the time I wear the damn thing I don't think i'll give a shit what others think.

Fab attitude OP! You look amazing, have a brilliant day Flowers

DavetheCat2001 · 10/07/2016 17:34

I'm similar in shape to the OP (I think), but my tummy seems to puff up so easily, particularly if I was on the bolly and cake, so it would not look nice on me!

zippyswife · 10/07/2016 17:56

OP haven't read through the entire thread. But just wanted to say you look stunning. Wear it. Life's too short to go around playing safe. You look fabulous so go for it.

WicksEnd · 10/07/2016 18:03

We have most definitely been here before Confused
I too have deja vu.

Favouritethings · 10/07/2016 18:26

It looks like a wrap dress which is coming undone!

Sneakyweasel · 10/07/2016 19:16

OP you look lovely, wear the dress. I'm jealous of your lovely figure and cake and fizz for brekkie! I wish I'd worn more daring stuff like this pre kids but never had the confidence at the time.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 10/07/2016 20:31

You have a lovely figure but the dress just looks as if it's on back to front.

nanetterose · 10/07/2016 22:05

I'm sure you've made your mind up now op
But my suggestion would be to wear pretty summer sandals & some delicate jewellery.
If it were me, l'd stich it a bit too.
Hope you're having a lovely time.

EnidButton · 10/07/2016 23:36

I haven't rtft because I can guess why it turned into a 10 page long debate. "Nice vest top" my backside. 🙄

You look incredible and the dress is perfect for your shape. The length stops it from being too much. You look really good and you like the dress so I'm glad you've put two fingers up to some of the posters on here and you're wearing it. 🍾 Happy Birthday!
