Just invested in some Rive Gauche and it smells gorgeous!!! Also recently bought some Red Door and love that too. Which of the older classics do you remember and still love?

Charlie Red here , so cheap but always gets complimented Smile

mumsnit · 21/06/2016 21:23

Sun Moon and Stars, Sunflowers and Vanderbilt all bring back memories of childhood and teens for me!

My DM still loves and wears Lancome Climat but she has to ask friends to bring it back from Harrods as its the only place in the UK that sells it now. There doesn't seem to be anything else like it that I can persuade her to wear instead!

MissBattleaxe · 21/06/2016 21:36

If she likes Climat, she might like Carven Ma Griffe too.

mumsnit · 21/06/2016 21:50

Ooh thanks MissBattleAxe it would be amazing to find her something similar and easier to get hold of!

Fishcake72 · 21/06/2016 21:55

I have been wearing Obsession since I was 15 (now 43). God help me if they discontinue it!
Love Rive Gauche and Femme as they remind me of my mum. I still hanker after the smell of Le Jardin and Charlie White.

I just checked the D&G website and they still list Sicily as one of their perfumes but no sign of Feminine or By. Perhaps Sicily will get a relaunch soon!! I still have about a quarter of a bottle which I mean to keep for special occasions but sometimes I just wear it to bed so I can enjoy it in peace.

Champagne, Byzance, Gio.

Bumping the thread- having my daily rummage in the ebay vintage sections, Sukina by Lentheric, I remember being in love with the glamorous name Grin (around the same time as Tasha by Avon I think)

She'd be a lapdancer these days, would Sukina. Grin

I didn't like classic when I was younger but now Chanel No 5, 19 and Mitsouko and Shalimar are some of my favorites. Y and Amazone are fabulous too. The latter seems to be available again, not sure whether it smells the same.

My personal favorite classics are big bold loud 1980s perfumes - Poison, Giorgio, Amarige, Obsession, Red by Giorgio, Eternity, Dune... I don't wear them any more but enjoy catching a whiff as they are full of memories.

Oh and another group of classics that I still truly enjoy wearing are masculine classics that I remember from my childhood. Yatagan, Antaeus, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme and other soapy-dirty old man scents.

hollyisalovelyname · 23/06/2016 15:26

Gingham by Innoxa I think.
Smelt like Brut.
Lancome's Hypnose smells very similar.
I wish Coty would sell Wild Musk in UK and Ireland.

MissBattleaxe · 23/06/2016 15:35

I used to wear Cachet. does anyone remember it?

GloriaGaynor · 23/06/2016 15:50

Diva by Ungaro

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/06/2016 15:54

Cachet rings a bell !

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 23/06/2016 16:01

I buy my cousin Le Jardin every Christmas as she loves it. Hard to find but it is out there.

I love Anais Anais but am resting it for a while whilst using up other perfumes. I don't care whether it's cool or not I just love the smell of it.

quirkychick · 23/06/2016 16:08

Dm used to wear Ma Griff, Je Reviens and Rive Gauche.

I remember wearing Anais Anais and Tasha from Avon!

I really liked Gio by Giorgio Armani. I have an Acqua Di Gio (a lighter version) and a more modern Acqua Di Gioia. I have some Amarige that my dm gave me, but I'm more likely to wear it in winter.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 23/06/2016 16:20

I remember Cachet, and that's just reminded me of Courant. No idea who by, possibly Helena Rubinstein again, but in my first ever grown up teen magazine (Melanie- circa 1975) there was an article on smelly things and a pic of this Courant retailing for iirc 49p. Grin

Stevie B and Smitty?

JinkxMonsoon · 23/06/2016 17:01

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Exclamation. It was cheap as chips but I treasured it. Haven't smelled it in decades but I bet it would take me right back to the early 90s if I did.

That, and Anais Anais Grin

hollyisalovelyname · 23/06/2016 19:29

Is Exclamation not still available in Boots?

MrsT2007 · 23/06/2016 19:36

For teenage years, red jeans and exclamation.

I mourn the loss of Armani White, D&G feminine and l'eau d'issey.

Gap used to do a fab everyday perfume too and they stopped that

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 23/06/2016 20:17

M and S Isis is supposed to be like Eau d'Issey I think?

There's a link ^ up there to Feminine on ebay if you have some ££££s to spare!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 23/06/2016 20:24

This is a nice blog about long gone classics.

I could spend (and do) hours pouring over them and adding them to my ebay list!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/06/2016 20:24

In the mid 80s I used to wear a perfume called Dans La Nuit which came in a dark blue semi-circle shaped bottle. If I were to smell that now I know it would take me back to the man I was having an on/off thing with, who I still think about now. He was bloody gorgeous.

lifestooshortowearuglyshoes · 23/06/2016 20:25

I'm sorry, but Rive Gauche and Anais Anais, used to smell vile and still do.

I feel physically ill if I catch even the slightest whiff of those two paint strippers.

Remembered another one,
L'air du Temps. Bleeurrgh.
