Vintage classic perfumes you remember and love!

Just invested in some Rive Gauche and it smells gorgeous!!! Also recently bought some Red Door and love that too. Which of the older classics do you remember and still love?

RG was the first perfume dh bought me 27 years ago! I still have some in the bottle, it's been in a drawer ever since and still smells fine!

I bought Zara's orienatal perfume last week because it has shades Tocade about it, might have to buy the original but it is a bit overpowering.

Most of the perfumes I have loved have been discontinued, I have a real knack for picking them - D&G Sicily, Gucci Envy and Bulgaria BVL for women to name a few which I have cursed by falling in love with them.

My first proper scent was Samsara.

My first real perfume was the original Miss Dior but they have revamped it and it is now sickly sweet, the original may still be available but I haven't smelled it in years. I really loved Paris but couldn't wear it now, it hasn't dated well.

No where near a classic but I remember begging my mum for Lagerfields Sun, Moon and Stars.

RIP Fendi. My fave, sadly discontinued. 😞

White Linen by Estée Lauder. Still use 30 years after finding it.

Jeez, my bridesmaid bought me RG as a wedding present when I got married in 1976.

None of the scents I think about were scents I wore apart from Aqua Manda when I was about 15 and something called Midnight from the same era. But I do think about Coty Lamaint that my mum wore as well as Estee Lauder Youth Dew.

My son thinks of me everytime he smells Givency Organza and when he was very far away from home as a foreign student he could smell it in a supermarket and thought it was me because he forgot he was away from home. So he follow the scent to try and catch up with me but of course he remembered where he was and he was so disappointed he went and sat in his car crying he felt so homesick.

Embarrassingly I also have fond memories of Hypnotic Poison, Tommy Girl and Cool Water (not sure if they count as vintage). I also love Chanel #5.

I'm wearing Estee Lauder's White Linen atm. It was one of the 3 perfumes I used to wear since my teens. (Other two: Chanel No. 5 and Nina Ricci's L'air du Temps)

Only the past three years, I've started getting into vintage ones like:

Vandebilt - Gloria Vandebilt (still available so wear this mostly)
Gloria - Cacharel (so-oooo gooood but too expensive to buy!)
Sicily - Dolce Gabbana (ditto)

I'd love to buy more, but tend to stick to what I know best. I can't afford to take risks and buy new ones that I can't sniff. I have been to perfumeries but it can get a bit overwhelming on the incessant amount of sniffing, that I can't make up my mind to make a purchase. I like some Jo Malone stuff and Tom Ford's too but it's overpriced imo.

Anyone who thinks of any reccy's based on my likes, please do tell me!

Miss Dior originale is what you need for an approximation of the old classic still very nice.
I took possesion of a vintage Dioressence today and have been wafting round feeling very vintage and glam.
I adore Rive Gauche (first bottle bought in 87 in Spain ) and am rarely without a full bottle.
Also still love Paris, such a happy memory for me.
My first own grown up perfume was Givenchy III and I love Ysatis as well.
I loathe all those pink fruity perfumes, I want to smell like a woman, not a Muller Fruit Corner.

Ma Griff and Obsession.

Ooh, Dior Tendre Poison... the merest whiff of it can evoke so many intense memories, particularly of a summer trip to France when I was in high school, which shows the truly bizarre way memory works, as it wasn't even released until the year after I left school (??!!).

I have tried the vintage Guerlain range, also too many that I liked but couldn't get to make a purchase as I wasn't absolutely 100% about any of them. I love original Indian handrolled incense which I burn at least 5 x a week so I'm attracted to a musky, heavy scent with bits of floral. I don't really like any citrussy, fresh, sporty-smells.. yak!

Tommy Girl is a classic and very underrated. The story of it is interesting, I think it was offered to a French house and an American one and rumour has it that it would have had much more clout in the classics arena had it been French.
Ditto a lot of the Estee Lauders. They are looked down on a bit
Two I want to add to my vintage collection are an 80s Safari and Paloma Picasso.

my first 'proper' perfume was D&G Feminine which was discountinued before i had chance to buy any more and now any bottles i do happen across are priced in the hundreds! it is the scent of my budding relationships, my nights clubbing dressed all goth, my friendships, tropical reef at the bowling alley and baileys in the rocker pub in town. it is the scent of some of the best times of my life

I loved Sicily by Dolce & Gabana and Fendi's Theorama- both now discontinued. I also have a amazing knack for picking ones which fall by the wayside. Currently wearing a lot of Mitsuoko by Guerlain which should carry on! I'm trying to find a lovely jasmine perfume for summer but struggling...

Sensi is my favourite. I've got a tiny amount left for special occasions (I wore it when I got married). I still haven't found anything I like as much.

Another one here who loved Rive Gauche. I haven't smelled it for years; I'm sure it would bring back masses of memories.

My earliest was Coty L'aimant - wasn't it a kind of cream? That was followed by Anais Anais.

I think that's very true about sometimes it's other people's perfumes that take us back to times and places. Chanel 19 and Paris were both worn by my flatmate when we lived in Spain. I now have both and they immediately whisk me bsck to then.

You can still get L'aimant, cheap as chips, I keep meaning to get some.
Aqua Manda has been relaunched,.I also remember another Goya one called Gardenia.
