Just invested in some Rive Gauche and it smells gorgeous!!! Also recently bought some Red Door and love that too. Which of the older classics do you remember and still love?

Dear ThenLater and PinkPoppy - am so glad other folk remember Kiku - yes the big globe of dusting powder with the luxury puff!!! The perfume was so delish that altho I was a student/worked p/t, I saved and saved to buy Kiku edt and the talc!!!!! ThenLater I love your apocalypse comment - I may have to stockpile too (anyone else think perfumes nowadays are a bit crappy?!? They change them, but say nil - eg Cinema by YSL used to be gorg - now it smells as tho they watered it down with some cheapo additional manufactured pong!)

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 13:38

Yes, post 1990 most formulations changed. Perfume houses are slowly trying to get back the classics that they totally changed when galbanum oakmoss etc were banned/limited.
Let's not forget whichever perfume it is which has whale vomit in it. Grin

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 13:41

Forgot to mention my other ebay bargsin, an almost full bottle (or rather canister, it was in a.gimmicky blue can thing which was its usp back in the day) of Eau de Gucci.

HooseRice · 18/06/2016 13:42

I still buy Red by Giorgio, I get it online.

I also wear Opium body cream and body oil but not the fragrance itself.

I mourn the loss of the yearly Opium summer perfumes.

I had a scoosh of my Gran's Anais Anais the other day and think I'll get a bottle.

ZsaZsa1954 · 18/06/2016 13:52

Aqua Manda - my first scent in the early 70s
L'Aimant - the poor woman's Chanel No 5. Someone at work said they always knew when I'd been in a room because there'd be a whiff of L'Aimant in the air.
Arpege
Mitsouko - I always used to buy this in duty free when I visited my mother in Oz and it always meant lovely sunny holiday days together. She died in 2008 and I've only just been able to start wearing it again
Joy - if I could never wear Chanel No 5 again this would be my go-to
Chanel No 5, of course.
Also like Penhaligon's Orange Blossom as a light summer scent.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/06/2016 14:00

Discontinued scents might be on Perfume Parlour.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 18/06/2016 14:26

Very Valentino was one of my very favourite perfumes and was sadly (actually I was devastated sob sob) discontinued. Using my final bottle very slowly.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 14:44

Couple of old bottles of VV on ebay LastGirl

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 18/06/2016 15:08

Ooh thanks Dark!!! Flowers

Mmnnnn...payday is Thursday and I reckon I could afford to get a bottle then!! I just adore it. It is so distinctive - it isn't for everyone, but is definitely for me.Smile

YSL had to change the name of their 'Champagne' perfume because the Champagne producers objected (ridicule, hein?) but the name champagne has protected status and has to refer to the fizzy wine produced in, you guessed it, the Champagne region.
So they changed it to Yvresse , a play on words with Ivresse which means drunkenness in French.
Ha-ha. Or MDR as they say in French txt speak.. (Mort de Rire/LOL/LMFAO)

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 17:20

I knew about the champagne thing, but didn't (despite a rather dusty degree in French Blush) know the Yvresse/Ivresse bit.

I luffs perfume trivia almost as much as perfume. Smile

MissBattleaxe · 18/06/2016 18:04

They've brought Aqua Manda back, along with Aqua Citra, Babe, Tribe and the fabulous Goya Rose.

boab · 18/06/2016 18:32

I miss the original Nina by Nina Ricci too. My first grown up perfume and I wish they would bring it back. I remember my mother wearing Tweed amongst other perfumes. I think that explains my fondness for cliniques aromatics elixir.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/06/2016 19:04

I've just googled, easy to get hold of Nina.

ladylambkin · 18/06/2016 19:15

I loved Y by YSL and also Very Valentino. I have recently started wearing Red Door again and everytime I wear it someone will ask me what it is.

TWOBANANAS · 18/06/2016 19:19

Roma and Safari are two other ones!!!

Grumpysfirstwife · 18/06/2016 19:21

Rive Gauche was my 1st perfume. I also used to wear Eden and Monsoon in a blue bottle with a copper coloured top too.

I wore Gio in the 90,s and Escape during my clubbing years and Beautiful in the early 2000's.

I have a very expensive bottle of Channel No 5 for very special occasions

RonSwansonsBestFriend · 18/06/2016 19:45

This thread is enough to give me a migraine Grin

I used to love Anais Anais, Cerutti 1881, L'eau de Eden, Sunflowers and Next's first perfume.

I think all, except Next, are still available.

pineappleeyes · 18/06/2016 19:47

Tocade. My mum bought me it a few Christmas ago and it's still one of my faves. I always get people commenting on it when I wear it and it takes me right back to my nights out with my mates

Shadowracer · 18/06/2016 19:48

Moonflower and dewberry from the bodyshop I loved them, but you can't get it anymore!

RonSwansonsBestFriend · 18/06/2016 19:50

Ooh and Body Shop's Dewberry, White Musk and another one, which name escapes me - it was awful but that didn't seem to sway me!

Strawberry scents remind me of my teens, am a late 70's baby.....

pineappleeyes · 18/06/2016 19:54

Oh and exclamation!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 18/06/2016 19:59

Body Shop used to do a gorgeous perfume called White Cotton. I LOVED it. So feminine and clean and just nice. The bottle even had white cotton wrapped around it. They discontinued it for some reason....why does that happen?????Angry

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 18/06/2016 20:02

Is Rive Gauche pronounced Reeve Goesh? I wear it to work and colleagues often ask me what I am wearing. This is how I pronounce it but I am not too certain TBH if it is right.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/06/2016 20:07

Reeve g -oh -sh I think
