Just invested in some Rive Gauche and it smells gorgeous!!! Also recently bought some Red Door and love that too. Which of the older classics do you remember and still love?

I used to wear mandate!

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/06/2016 09:47

I still wear Eau Jeune. You can get it in any French supermarket. They do a range now, but the one you want is Eau Fraiche.

I still wear Halston, Cabochard, First, Quartz and a load of other 70s scents. They have reformulated my favourite Ivoire and it smells like any generic perfume now.

myusernamewastaken · 18/06/2016 09:50

I used to wear Guerlain Shalimar...opium...lou lou...rive gauche....samsara....poison....i now love Body Shops Japanese Cherry Blossom x

Middleoftheroad · 18/06/2016 09:57

Vanderbilt was such a favourite
Poison
Loulou
Eden
Anais Anais - all the Cacherel I suppose
My mother always wore the Estee Lauder brown perfume was it Morning Dew or sthg?

I'm tempted to start wearing them again....

KoalaDownUnder · 18/06/2016 10:01

Ooh, I used to love Cacharel's Eden.

And Dune! Forgot about Dune.

MissBattleaxe · 18/06/2016 10:03

I still wear Panache, Chique and L'Aimant.

I don't know why they discontinued Gucci Envy. There is a huge demand for it.

You can still buy Tabu, Cabotine and many others if you look online. They are really cheap. Try allbeauty.com.

Avon did a great one called Eau Givree. I wish they'd bring it back. Odyssey was good too.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 10:04

Youth Dew.

I think everyone should reclaim the classics, down with smelling of sherbet fruit corners!

Ebay is your friend for pre-1990 ish stuff. Just be wary, especially of miniature bottles coming from abroad.when the seller seems to have everything.

Recently I have snagged: Dioressence pre-1990, Eau de Givenchy and Givenchy III, and about 6 bottles of vintage Ysatis (am stockpiling in case of a fruity pink zombie apocalypse)

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 10:06

Hello MissB!

My favourite Avons were Moonwind, Timeless, Charisma and one in a yellow flowery packaging whose name escapes me.

MissBattleaxe · 18/06/2016 10:11

ThenLater- I couldn't agree with you more about the sea of pink fruity florals. That and the caramel wave! Enough!

TWOBANANAS · 18/06/2016 10:40

Vanderbilt and Cabochard - I ALWAYS have these on the go. I love their staying power!!

I love Y by YSL - my sister bought some for me or my 18th birthday (1987) and I've worn it ever since. Weirdly I wore it to work recently for the first time and my colleague recognised and named it instantly!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/06/2016 10:49

Oh yes,Vanderbilt!!

Onynx · 18/06/2016 12:13

Florascot I thought i imagined that that Nina perfume existed!! It was one of the first perfumes I had, it was in a beautiful ornamental phial and was in a wax format. Every time I asked about it sales assistants would tell me it must have been L'air du Temps!! Thanks for validating my memory!!

Gatekeeper · 18/06/2016 12:24

cripes ...ones I have worn

5am
Laughter
Stevie B
Maxi
Rive Gauche
Je reviens
In Love
Heaven Sent
Apple Blossom
Fidji
Metalle

Ones I miss are J'ai Ose by Guy Laroche, Amazone by Hermes and one by Ted Lapidus which i can't remember the name of

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/06/2016 12:27

I bought Nina recently from allbeauty. c. I bought it by accident as I thought it was LDT. I ended up charity shopping it as I like it.

rollonthesummer · 18/06/2016 12:29

I'm wearing Estee Lauder's White Linen atm. It was one of the 3 perfumes I used to wear since my teens. (Other two: Chanel No. 5 and Nina Ricci's L'air du Temps

OoohI love both Chanel no5 and White linendo you think I would like l'air du temps as well?! It's not too sweet, is it? I don't like Paris type sweet perfumes.

EverySongbirdSays · 18/06/2016 12:37

My go to from about the age of 16 was Champagne - it really attracted blokes Blush they NCd it to Yvresse and it became impossible to find. I think you can still get it online but the worry is that the bottles are old and quality of scent has diminished.

Nowadays my go to's are Alien, Tresor Midnight Rose, and Elie Saab

GertyTheGert · 18/06/2016 12:41

Sorry not sure if I accidentally deleted my "addition" to this thread?! Anyways, Kiku (by Faberge) in unusual chrome yellow packaging was a FABULOUSLY WONDERFUL scent and Je Reviens - delicious! Madame Rochas was quite nice as it smelt like velvet and apricots! And Roma - someone mentioned Tuscany - was part of the same range!!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 12:48

I had a squirt of Roma just the other day!
Inspired by this thread I looked Yvresse up, I had been racking my brains as to what they'd had to change Champagne to. Fair bit of it on ebay.
Rollon- L'air du temps IS sweet, but not heavy pinky sweet, it's quite fresh and very elegant. I bought my Mum some for Christmas.
Gerty, I remember Kiku talc, big globey pot with a tassle same stable as Babe and iirc Elle?

StUmbrageinSkelt · 18/06/2016 12:50

Antilope is not the same at all.

I found a bottle of Coriandre which I adored back in the 80's. It's foul now.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 18/06/2016 12:53

I mourn the loss of D&G Be. I may have spent £60 on a three quarters full bottle on eBay because I was so pleased to see it...

cressetmama · 18/06/2016 12:55

First, there was Je Reviens, then Amazone, next Chamade, later Y; come the 1990s, it was Dune, and now I am a shameless perfume tart!

P1nkP0ppy · 18/06/2016 12:58

Cabochard by Grès, still my all time favourite
Fidgi
Kiku - the talc was with a puff, in a yellow ball.
L'air du Temps and Nina
My first perfume nearly 50 😳 years ago was Aqua Manda

GertyTheGert · 18/06/2016 13:01

-2- I ve just NOT gone out (!) because I just read HEAVEN SCENT and APPLE BLOSSOM!!! I adored those two scents and am surprised I forgot about them (altho Kiku is still my no 1 as it was so unusual!) This thread is a fab memory bank!!!!!! (May go out in 10 mins .......) !!!!!!!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 13:07

Gatekeeper- was the Ted Lapidus Creation?
I wore that in 87 and recently bought a mini from ebay but either it is fake, gone off, or I have blocked the original from my olfactory memory as it reminds me of a big romantic mistake. All 3 of these scenarios possibly true!
