Just invested in some Rive Gauche and it smells gorgeous!!! Also recently bought some Red Door and love that too. Which of the older classics do you remember and still love?

OP posts:
Tattieboggle · 17/06/2016 21:02

You can still get L'aimant, cheap as chips, I keep meaning to get some.
Aqua Manda has been relaunched,.I also remember another Goya one called Gardenia

Thank you for that Smile I'll have a look for them the next time Im in town.

BetteDavis01 · 17/06/2016 22:02

Perhaps not a vintage classic, but I really miss Gucci Envy. Why oh why did they discontinue it? Sad

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/06/2016 22:15

i don't often wear perfume ( I have a Liz Earle one that smells like the black Impulse "Nirvana" spray)

Ones from the past I love the smell of-

Tuscany
Aqua Manda

Diorella and Dioressence. Sometimes I dream of them (!) or catch an echo and I'm pulled straight back to my childhood. The modern reformulations aren't the same. Sad

Sometimes I can 'remember' Tabu and Givenchy III (old formulations). It's quite strange; it's kind of a physical memory.

I miss them. Gone but still loved.

thecatfromjapan · 17/06/2016 22:21

Fragrance overlap with Later. Grin

I'm well jel of your vintage scents.

CotswoldStrife · 17/06/2016 22:24

Aw, I am now wanting some of my old perfumes that have been mentioned on this thread - Rive Gauche, Chanel No.19, Poison, Paris.

Samsara - I knew someone who wore this and it smelt wonderful on her, terrible on me!

In the early eighties I loved Ritz - silver bottle with a red stripe around the top? Quite a sweet scent really.

NotAnotherHarlot · 17/06/2016 22:26

Try Mon Jasmine Noir for a summery jasmine, it's lighter than the original.

I tried Paloma Picasso a couple of days ago for the first time in about 20 years and it was not what I was expecting at all. I don't know whether it is different now or I've mixed it up in my head. It was much more aldehydey than I remembered. Still nice, but it was not as spicy as I was hoping for.

I might need to revisit Poison Grin
I like Arpege, Halston, and Mitsouko.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/06/2016 22:27

Jovan musk anybody (sophisticated it wasn't Wink )

BabyGanoush · 17/06/2016 22:28

Tweens: Miss Sporty: White Musk
Teens: Anais Anais
Twenties: CK Eternity
Thirties: Tresor
Fourties: Tocca: Cleopatra

Nothing interesting I am afraid.

My mum had Nina Ricci l'air du temps for years.

I struggle to find perfumes I like

CointreauVersial · 17/06/2016 22:30

Bette - I have a large bottle of Gucci Envy, which I'm using very slowly!

Anyone remember Geminesse? And Le Jardin de Max Factor??

I loved Obsession back in the day, and am quite tempted to buy a bottle - I'd wear it today.

vindscreenviper · 17/06/2016 22:32

Rive Gauche will always pull me back to my childhood, my mum wore that or Youth Dew, which dad always bought for her at xmas, in solid form which came in a variety of gorgeous little gold compacts. She would give me her empties and I thought they were the most beautiful glamorous things ever!

bluebump · 17/06/2016 22:35

I've got back into Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, I remember liking it years ago and smelt someone wearing it the other day and it made me feel really nostalgic.

I wore Polo Sport woman for nearly 20 years and was gutted when it was discontinued. I've not found anything I love as much.

LadyAntonella · 17/06/2016 22:36

Oh anais anais! I loved that! I might have to go and buy sniff that tomorrow.

FlumptyDumpty · 17/06/2016 22:38

Nocturnes de Caron was lovely but they mucked about with it, sadly. Now it's pretty humdrum.

Statelychangers · 17/06/2016 22:40

Coco Chanel - I love it!

winkywinkola · 17/06/2016 22:44

Safari is just lovely. It was rereleased two Christmasses ago and I bought three bottles. All gone now though. Sad

Jmangel · 17/06/2016 22:52

Gosh this thread is nostalgia!
First perfume aged 16 L'air du temps
Used to pinch Blue Grass from my mum.
Then a bloody gorgeous musk called Alyssa or something - not sure.
Then Lou Lou - didn't everyone wear it?.
Then progressed to Beautiful which I still adore but it's so full on, I just buy the body lotion now,
Early twenties, Red Door, then, gasp Poison.
Ooh then Cabotine! Forgot about that - must look it up - used to love it.
Isn't it wonderful how fragrance instantly evokes forgotten memories - so picturing myself clubbing in hot pants and a bikini top now!'

Does anyone remember impulse spray called Gypsy?

Darklane · 17/06/2016 22:52

Memoir Cherie
L'Ecusson by Jean D'Albret
Miss Dior, the original
Goya Entice
Revlon Intimate

CotswoldStrife · 17/06/2016 22:56

I remember Geminesse and Le Jardin - I liked both - and a lot around that era - Cachet, Chique (that was really sweet, a friend wore it) Charlie. Surely not all perfumes began with C, there was Vanderbilt as previously mentioned!

My mum used to wear Blue Grass!

FairNotFair · 17/06/2016 22:57

I used to love Guerlain's Chant d'Aromes, but I tried some recently and I'm sure they've messed with it.

Ditto Hungary Water - used to be so sharp and citrussy and now smells sickly like loo cleaner

My mother used to wear Rochas by Madame Rochas when she went out in the evenings in the 70s. I haven't smelled it in years - don't even know if it still exists.

glassgarden · 17/06/2016 23:06

I used to wear blue stratus after shave, back in the 80's
white musk is my most intense time travel experience, I smell it and I am 16 again

glassgarden · 17/06/2016 23:08

I also remember a lemony perfume from the 80's called eu jeaune (?)

vindscreenviper · 17/06/2016 23:09

Mum also wore Charles of the Ritz but I can't remember the smell just the brushed silver bottle.

Tartyflette · 17/06/2016 23:10

My mother used to wear Vent Vert by Balmain, I absolutely adored it, so green, grassy and herbal. i think it was in part due to the galbanum (now banned) i have some of the current version, but it's not the same Sad.
I like quite a few of the old Guerlain scents, Chamade, Après L'Ondée, l'Heure Bleue.
But my all-time favourite (as an adult) is Annick Goutal's Eau de Camille. Also now discontinued. And unobtainable. I have three bottles that I've bought second-hand on eBay since but they are too old and have lost their top notes. Very sad. (And they were bloody dear, too)
