Just invested in some Rive Gauche and it smells gorgeous!!! Also recently bought some Red Door and love that too. Which of the older classics do you remember and still love?

Means Left Bank iirc

LordTrash · 18/06/2016 20:08

I love my Mitsouko and have always wanted to try Arpege.

As a young teen, I would always make a beeline for Estee Lauder Cinnabar whenever I was mooching around department stores with my friends - long discontinued, I think.

I find Hypnotic Poison very evocative of a particular period in my late 20s.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 18/06/2016 20:09

Thanks Dame!!Smile A linguist I am NOT!

TWOBANANAS · 18/06/2016 20:17

Monsoon old perfume in the blue bottle with the spiral cone copper lid was absolutely gorgeous!!!

Was it Rumba by Ted Lapidus ? My first proper perfume was bought for me by my aunt it was Chloe by Karl Lagerfeld. Also Miss Door the original one. Wore Anais Anais and Le Jardin in my teens and Tresor in my 20's and Rive Gauche. Loved Fendi Theorema sadly discontinued also liked Dolce and Gabbana Feminine. I like Dolce and Gabbana perfumes.

flightywoman · 18/06/2016 21:30

I wore Rive Gauche back in the late 70s/early 80s, it reminds me of being 17 and wearing grey lambswool jumpers. I particularly liked it the day after a night out when it was slightly mixed with cigarette smoke.

Dioressence was my signature scent for YEARS, it doesn't smell the same anymore and that gives me a sad.

But the big lost one for me is Givenchy III. I miss it so much. Haven't smelled the relaunch, but I expect it will be a poor imitation of the real thing.

WaitingInTheSky · 18/06/2016 21:41

Byzance by Rochas - much missed.

MissBattleaxe · 18/06/2016 22:03

LordTrash- Cinnabar is alive and well and widely available. Great choice.

I much prefer perfumes from earlier eras than the rash of pink, sweet fluff. I'm with LaterWhenItGotDark on this one.

I still have a bottle of LouLou and wear it often and I love Tocade, Pleasures, Anais Anais and utterly adore L'Air du Temps. An absolute classic forever.

CotswoldStrife · 18/06/2016 22:19

Kiku! Goya Rose! Keep 'em coming!

I used a lot of Avon perfumes too (I did have a bit of a thing about perfume back then), and remember a lot of old ones like Ariane, Foxfire, Sweet Honesty, Fantasque - one of my sisters used to wear Moonwind, Timeless, Tasha - and I remember my mum having a pot with a cream version of Avon Elegance which I loved the smell of.

The Avon perfume in the yellow packing was probably Sunny Skies, also a lovely one.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 18/06/2016 22:44

Sweet Honesty! I think that was it, the Avon one, also Tasha, and Elegance (the cream pots were called cream sachet iirc)
Flight- there are a couple of old Givenchy III and Dioressences on ebay right now. If you buy them, it will save me from having to add them to my stockpile!

JimineyJelickers · 19/06/2016 00:09

I just looked online for Les Belle di Ricci after reading this thread and it's £80 for a 50ml EDT

MadeinBelfast · 19/06/2016 00:24

I had the original XS by Paco Rabane 😳 I don't think you can get it anymore (there's an updated version in a black bottle) but there must be a similar scent available as I sometimes smell it when walking behind people in the street. I'm too embarrassed to ask them what it is!

Expellibramus · 19/06/2016 00:54

I loved XS Pour Elle Belfast. I think Happy by Clinique has a similar vibe, maybe what you're smelling although I much preferred XS.

Onthewingofaswift · 19/06/2016 08:12

I remember very well florabunda by Next. Probably 1988. I never got some but loved it.
Action by trussardi. I bought this at Zante airport in 1990 and loved it.
United colours of Benetton, a favourite
Safari
Sunflowers, still around
Juba by the body shop

lostscot · 19/06/2016 09:27

bluebump is it this Polo?

The Nina on sale now is nothing at all like the original Nina, alas!
The old Nina was green and woody. The new one is pink and sweet and fruity.

But thanks for the reference - and I see that Amazon does list just a few bottles of the old version, from a German comany.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/06/2016 12:27

Ah right, sorry.

florascotianew · 19/06/2016 12:55

It was very kind of you to mention the reference. Thanks!

HyacinthBouquetNo1 · 19/06/2016 13:03

I am an Opium gal old bint It is my all time favourite and I have been wearing it for over 20 years, it has such good memories too. DH loves it, he even loves the taste of it, he is forever licking it off my neck wierdo I know its a very strong perfume but after about 2 hours on my skin, it is just gorgeous, I can still smell it the next day

I also love
Shalimar
Sensous Nude
Anais Anais

glassgarden · 19/06/2016 13:16

Sunflowers is one of my favorites

Ticketybooboo · 19/06/2016 13:26

Fendi and Fendi's Theorama - both discontinued but I have some of both left- for special occasions. Fendi was dirt cheap from Superdrug. Big fan of YSL's Jazz in the 80's and a men's lemony Cacherel - possibly still available.

MadeinBelfast · 19/06/2016 16:43

Thanks for the tip Expellibramus!

CotswoldStrife · 19/06/2016 20:38

Deci Dela by Nina Ricci - almost blackcurrant-y.

Polkadot1974 · 19/06/2016 22:20

That Monsoon one. Loved it
My mum wore Eau Givree - she called it "oh Guv ree"

twilightcafe · 20/06/2016 12:29

I started off wearing Coco, Narcisse by Chloe and Angel in my twenties. Graduated to Gucci Envy and Manifesto by Isabella Rossellini (which had a top note of basil).
Then by my later thirties, I moved on to Noix de Tubereuse by Miller Harris; and Blue Agava and Cacao by Jo Malone.
