Mrs S - Eau du Sud: just the best for hot summer days. I associate it with those glorious mornings when you can walk to work in something sleeveless. And DKNY Woman, which was one of my first 'grown up' fragrances - I like the turbo-charged citrus/chemical sparkle. Although my personal top pick for days when I'm taking no prisoners at work is Empreinte - powerful and old school, gives effect of looking down over tops of glasses.

flightywoman · 12/03/2016 17:37

I'm trying out JHAG Gentlewoman today. It's another that is 'ok-nice' but isn't a stayer for me. None of them so far have knocked my socks off like Au Dela or Seyrig or Salome...and I don't think it's lasted that well either - I put it on at about 11.30, and 6 hours later it is very faint.

Himself doesn't have much of a sense of smell so these are pretty much all lost on him - I just please myself!

cressetmama · 12/03/2016 17:44

Gentlewoman is nice, but agree it is a fleeting pleasure flighty. I have enjoyed the set though I would only consider buying Another Oud, and I think it would be a small decant at that!

FrustratedFrugal · 12/03/2016 17:53

DD2 (6) stayed in the bathroom for a bit. When she came out and hugged me, I realized she had Yatagan on her wrist. She says she really likes it Wink
A few weeks ago, she was wearing Bottega Veneta.
She must have a thing for leather.

iyamehooru · 12/03/2016 18:01

I love perfume. Got Miss Dior Eau de Parfum for Mother's Day. Love it.

Can I ask what is JHAG? Is there somewhere you know that does samples of lots of different perfumes please?

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 12/03/2016 18:34

Hello iyam...welcome to the slippery slope! These lovely experts will know more than me as I am relatively new to the thread and also not in the UK, so many sellers won't despatch, but Nose.fr will let you put in your favourite scent and then come up with a list of others they think you will like and you can buy a set of reasonably priced samples.
Then lots of the perfume houses do sample sets, and there is a site called Scent Samples too.
I often pick up mini bottles from ebay too. A 7.5 ml bottle of one of my old 80s favourites Paris arrived today. Smile

FrustratedFrugal · 12/03/2016 18:36

JHAG= Juliette Has a Gun, they sell a discovery kit.

FrustratedFrugal · 12/03/2016 18:41

And would others list their favorite sample sources? I haven't ordered any in ages.

getoffthattabletnow · 12/03/2016 18:42

iyame Jhag stands for 'Juliet has a gun'.Its a particular perfume brand with several perfumes within the brand.Incidentally they do a really good value sample pack on their website.
Good sample places are Nose,Bloom,Les Senteurs,BeautySpin and lots of perfume companies do their own sample packs .
SOTD is Guerlains Nahema ( vintage).I absolutely love the Lilac and Hyacinth in this highly nuanced perfume .It smells like Ambery Vanilla Ice cream in the basenotes but still with a touch of Hyacinth under my watch.

MissBattleaxe · 12/03/2016 18:44

iyamehooru- are you in the UK? If so,do try the Perfume Society Discovery Boxes, or try 4160 Tuesdays- they do lots of sample sets and minis. Also Les Senteurs does samples, although I find them quite small. I definitely recommend the Perfume Society though, and they provide sniffing notes with every scent included. I'm a fan and I've ordered every box they've ever done!

getoffthattabletnow · 12/03/2016 18:47

E bay is also a good source of samples.
Succumbed to Tk Maxx and bought the last bottle of Friedemodin Jardin Mystique.I'm not sure whether it's available any more and my Mum loved it.The Friedemodin site seems to have relaunched without any perfumes for sale. Its also really difficult to read on my phone .

YetAnotherNC · 12/03/2016 19:25

I have used Scentsamples.co.uk a fair few times and they have been very good, even putting in the odd freebie. I have also bought the sample quartet from Papillon perfumes, which was gorgeous. And just bought the Penhaligons scent library in a little tin from the Penhaligons shop at Bicester Village. And eBay...

MissBattleaxe · 12/03/2016 19:26

Also, try Penhaligon's and L'Artisan Parfumeur for a lovely tin of samples, very reasonably priced- both under 15 quid. Try Amazon or the L'Artisan website.

Fracas again today. It's lovely in the cool spring, but really bloomed when the sun came out and I actually warmed up. Still can't remember what it reminds me of...

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 12/03/2016 20:43

I got my recent samples from Aus Leibe thingymabob in Germany. Beautiful hand written labels on the phials, and very nice customer service (I forgot I wanted Chypre 21 (the Brut 33 one lol) and emailed and I exchanged very nice emails with the customer service asst.

I get lots of my ebay perfumes from German sellers, they seem very genuine thus far. (will take ownership of some scrummy 80s Ysatis this week) Grin

cressetmama · 12/03/2016 21:12

A lovely sample set (and good price) was the one from Parfum d'Empire, but I can no longer see it on their web site. It's a very nice range though, with scents to appeal to most.

thecatfromjapan · 12/03/2016 22:20

Happy Weekend everyone!

I have a question: I am going to visit the Santa Maria Novella shop in London. What should I try?

I spotted an Italian mn-er on anther thread and I'm hoping she's on this one too.

iyamehooru · 12/03/2016 23:33

Yes I'm in the uk....very excited by this, does the same apply to aftershave. DH used to wear one that they stopped making so is it a case of being able to find something similar....off to browse anyway!

FrustratedFrugal · 13/03/2016 08:32

SOTD Defile New York from Histoires de Parfums.
Anticipating Easter: green grass and creme eggs.

MissBattleaxe · 13/03/2016 09:28

What did he used to wear iyamhooru? I bet we could find you a smellalike!

iyamehooru · 13/03/2016 18:05

Miss Battleaxe it was Balderissimi (spelling probably wrong) and I think it was a Hugo Boss fragrance.

MissBattleaxe · 13/03/2016 18:19

according to Fragrantica that smells like St Dupont Noir by St Dupont.

ilovetosleep · 13/03/2016 18:23

I've been following for months and love reading you talk about perfume. This winter I have been wearing TF Santal Blush, Elixir des Merveilles, Samsara and Prada Amber. I'm now on the hunt for some spring scents, no idea what I'd like that's less warm and wintry.

Also on the hunt for an aftershave - DH has been finishing off his last bottle of the long discontinued Gucci Envy and I ygink it's goi g to be tough finding a replacement!

VeryPunny · 13/03/2016 19:40

SOTD L'Eau d'Ambre - absolutely lovely. Tried Mure et Musc Extreme yesterday and didn't rate it on me - too sweet and didn't last. Off to investigate the JHAG and Penhaligon sample tins...

FrustratedFrugal · 14/03/2016 17:24

SOTD Yatagan. Pine, leather, castoreum, totally comforting.
