Although I'm still playing the perfume field, if I had to go steady with just one perfume, it might well be No19 Poudre. I like the extra wodge of iris in it. Smile No 19, with extra iris = happy cat.
I'm wearing Chergui. I felt in need of love.

thecatfromjapan · 08/03/2016 18:14

And it was lovely seeing you over on the grammar thread, Later.Grin

Onynx · 08/03/2016 18:43

Long time lurker on these threads! Love reading all the perfume suggestions! Loving my Jo Malone Dark Amber and Gingerlily for this time of year. Also adore Coco Edp for winter days - like a comfy blanket and Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir for evenings. Molecule 01 and Ralph Lauren Romance for summerSmile

FrustratedFrugal · 08/03/2016 18:48

Today is the day to wear Farnesiana! Happy International Women's Day!
Mimosas for everyone...

FrustratedFrugal · 08/03/2016 18:49

Joining the Deseo fan club tomorrow...

YetAnotherNC · 08/03/2016 19:14

Rubbish day, so sloshed a generous dose of Salome on. I have no qualms about stinking wth attitude and gorgeousness today. I love the go-to-hell-and-be-damned unashamedness of it. Made me feel a bit better anyway! 😄

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 08/03/2016 19:38

My holy grail is definitely Chanel 19. Others come and go, but that remains.
My first grown up perfume was Givenchy 3. I nabbed a wee bottle from ebay recently.
I need some vintage Miss Dior I think...

flightywoman · 09/03/2016 16:34

I wore JHAG Miss Charming today. Not wild about the sweet raspberry note which was very noticeable at the start, then I thought was fading back but has stayed quite to the fore all day. It's not horrid but it's not me!

cressetmama · 09/03/2016 18:36

Agree with you completely flighty. I like several from the JHAG sample set, but only Another Oudh may get me to press the buy button. I wouldn't mind being given some of the others though.

Sniffed loads of bottles today, but didn't spray anything. Was out with my mum, so stifled my perfumista persona.

VeryPunny · 10/03/2016 14:02

Eeeep! My L'Artisan Parfumeur Boite had turned up, along with 3 Tom Ford samples! Am trying not to go totally berserk although Seville is utterly superbGrin

MymbleMother · 10/03/2016 16:34

I am just delurking as I love these threads but unfortunately don't have the money any more to indulge my fragrance habit (especially Chanel Wink) but going on the previous comments I bought some Deseo (8.99!) and it's lovely. It smells much more expensive than it is. I think it's a good time of year for it, so it can be a replacement for my Chanel no 5 eau premiere.

Thank you perfume people Grin

cressetmama · 10/03/2016 16:52

Mooched around Harrods Perfume hall this morning and discovered some lovely things, but only had one spray of Boadicea the Victorius Imperiale, which is like nothing I have ever smelt! Powerful, amber and utterly complex.

FrustratedFrugal · 10/03/2016 17:08

Enjoy Mymble!

I am picking perfumes for the radio show tomorrow. I was going to take Yatagan, Loretta and Dahn-al-oudh Arzan (pine/urine, tuberose/grape and blast of camel dung) plus two classics, Chanel No.5 and Mitsouko. Prepared the strips but they stink to high heaven. So will have to rethink Grin

So here's one for you ladies - you'll get to talk about perfume for an hour on national public radio. You can take along 3-5 different perfumes.
Which ones would you pick?

MrsCocoa · 10/03/2016 17:45

That's hard Frugal! Perhaps:

  • an old school grand dame chypre;
  • a powerhouse oriental from 1970s/80s;
  • an ethereal woody floral (a CdG?);
  • something darker and modernist/abstract (a SL?), and,
  • your all time personal favourite (guessing this might be an oud?).
MissBattleaxe · 10/03/2016 17:56

Ooh that's a good question Frugal!

I'd take Secretions Magnifique as a talking point and as an other-end-of-the-spectrum item.

Then a classic that everyone knows such as Chanel No 5 or Opium.

Papillon Salome

Gucci Envy

Then a Yardley soliflore to debunk the talk of "old lady" perfume ( a term I can't stand).

That's a hard question. I enjoyed that.

Feawen · 10/03/2016 20:55

Today was an Isis by Agonist day. I like the gingery opening but the caramel-cream dry down is too sweet for me...and I like sweet!

In answer to Frugal's question:

Cool Water, because aqueous scents dominated my 90s to early 00s perfume awakening!

Angel, because it evokes such strong reactions, and everyone knows and has an opinion on it.

Original and new formulation Miss Dior Cherie, because I loved the original, and as an opening to talking about the cause and effects of ingredient regulations

Onynx · 10/03/2016 21:25

MymbleMother - I had to reply! Don't know if this would help but I find my Boots points add up quite quickly. I save mine and when I have enough -may take months- I use them to buy perfume I could otherwise not afford. Guilt free treatsSmile

cressetmama · 11/03/2016 06:46

Lovely poser there, Frugal, but not one I can ponder right away as I have
to pack up our self-catering house and drive home, but it will occupy my thoughts on the way.

Off the top of my head, I might look at the development of a big perfume house (Guerlain?) ab initio to the present day and how the scents have reflected social trends down the years. Alternatively, how geography and flora/fauna has driven perfumes in each area of the world.

YetAnotherNC · 11/03/2016 09:14

Frugal when is the radio show? What channel? Would love to hear it.

MrsSchadenfreude · 11/03/2016 12:59

Ooh! My 3-5 perfumes would be:

First, which I've been wearing on and off since the 80s and always come back to.

DKNY Woman, which I first bought in New York. I wear it when I have to be a bit feisty at work!

Chanel 22, as every time I'm wearing it someone stops me to ask me what it is.

Annick Goutal's Eau du Sud, which reminds me of summer days in my childhood, as my mother used to wear something that smelled exactly the same as this.

I'd also include the original Ivoire, which has now been reworked into Another Generic Pleasant Smelling Scent, and has lost its depth and dirty edges.

SOTD is Vertine. Pleasant enough, in a toothpastey sort of way. Was in hospital this morning for a minor op and didn't want something that was going to remind me of it!

FrustratedFrugal · 11/03/2016 19:12

What lovely suggestions - everyone here should have their very own broadcast hour Wink

I switched my favorites around a bit.
Our final lineup was:

Deseo
Sycomore
Loretta
Yatagan
Chanel No. 5
Avignon
Jeke

We had a ton of other things with us, including Ninfeo Mio and lots of bottles I cannot remember any more. It was great, I've never done anything like this before. And you cannot imagine how stinky the studio was. The sweetest guy was the producer. He stayed with us afterwards and asked our opinion on Mennen... Awwww...

I'd send you a link, but it was not in English, and would definitely out me.

FrustratedFrugal · 11/03/2016 19:59

I remembered one more bottle - SL's Santal Majuscule.

Love the idea of the evolution of Guerlain, and smelling some bestsellers from recent decades would also have been fun.
And yes, Secretions would get people talking but my mother was listening Blush

We actually talked about aldehydes, Chanel No. 22 would have been a magnificent example.

Should we start a perfume podcast series? Wink

cressetmama · 11/03/2016 21:17

Could we just do a Skype chat/phone in, without name tags? I'd play.

Back home to DH with serious head cold, so that means I shan't be able to smell anything for days, once I catch it.

Harrods Boadicea's counter was great, some seriously hefty scents, and the SA was charming and encouraging..... "come everyday and smell the scents. I always have fresh coffee beans to clear your nose".... lovely. Just one but... price! Starting at £100 for 50ml. That said, I enjoyed one spray from noon until I slept, at past midnight (after theatre and trip home) so the longevity is there. Oh to be close enough to Harrods to move in I don't think choice would be easy as the scents are too dense and complex to take in more than one at at time. They are both powerful, and subtle. Do try if you go to Knightsbridge. The sales guy was much warmer than the Roja Dove rep, who didn't reach out at all.

MrsCocoa · 11/03/2016 22:05

Sounds like great radio Frugal.

MrsS - you have two of my long term favourites on that list.

SoTD has turned out to be Theo Fennell's Scent. I got hit by gusts of it as I pushed open the front door. While DH was distracted, DS had doused himself in it - think he's got through 10mls Sad.

Still DH laughed when I told him DS will probably still smell knickery at school on Monday. Just wish he had chosen something that hasn't been discontinued.

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/03/2016 10:10

MrsC - which are they, and what other smells do you like that I might like? Grin
