Miller Harris Fleur du Matin is SOTD today.Am stuck on green florals at the moment.
Tk Maxx have several Miller Harris online at the
moment.I've just taken the opportunity to stock up as I'm not sure whether pamplemousse has been discontinued and Fleur du Matin definitely has.Neither are on the website any more.
Carrie, Ormonde Jayne do a lovely Frangipani as do Chanteceille .They're both expensive but I just buy decants.

MissBattleaxe · 09/07/2016 10:38

CoolCarrie- Try Body Shop Polynesian island Tiare. very frangipani!

CoolCarrie · 09/07/2016 13:12

Thank you ladies for the suggestions x. Will have a wee look today!

MissBattleaxe · 10/07/2016 19:19

teta- thanks for the tip off about Le Pamplemousse. It's one of my favourties.

SOTD- Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine again. So long lasting and citrussy!

cressetmama · 12/07/2016 20:24

CoolCarrie, isn't the Nuxe Body Oil tiare scented? M&S stock it, and the product is great (though not a fave of mine). In French supermarkets, the Marseillaise brand make a nice spray dry oil body oil which is cheap as chips.

SoTD was Midnight Oud (so completely unsuitable for the day I've had lurking at home).

Where are you all? Anosmia?

cressetmama · 12/07/2016 20:27

Is this thread tired? Should we have a new thread?

cressetmama · 12/07/2016 20:29

We are nearly at 1000 posts? We could have something more seasonal? Anyone fancy it?

Coooee!! Anyone there?

MissBattleaxe · 12/07/2016 21:46

YooHoo! I'm here!

Isn't it funny how this lovely thread goes to page 3 or 4 sometimes but as soon as someone starts a thread about retro perfume or summer perfume, it gets lots of replies?

If people have perfume questions, we can help! We're lovely and we all smell nice and have loads of knowledge!

SOTD Avon Perceive Oasis. It smells like a light summery version of Chloe by Chloe but is only 5.50. I've just ordered a second bottle.

cressetmama · 13/07/2016 13:50

Hey MissB... what about a nice thread promising fame and riches in the title? That should drag em in!

I don't know an Avon lady, but maybe I should try to meet one! Are many of the scents good?

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 13/07/2016 13:56

SOTD Lady Million. I hate to admit it but I think it might be growing on me. Blush does anyone here wear Noa? I love love love how this smells on other people but when I wear it, it smells like it has turned. This happens all the time, and with brand new bottles. Confused Do you think it has to do with my skin/chemistry??

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 14:41

cresset, yes we should put something tempting in our thread title. Or perhaps people think we're cliquey or we've been going so long that newbies won;t fit in? Perhaps we should call it "Friendly perfume people"?

Avon can be hit and miss. There were a couple of fallow years but lately there have been some really good ones. They're cheap too- usually 2 for £14 along with lots of special offers. Timeless is an ambery chypre that was created in 1974 and is only a fiver. Soft Musk is a classic peachy floral musk and was only 4.50 in my last brochure. They also have exclusive deals with Christian Lacroix ( sweetie).

LastGirl- I love Noa! It may be your skin. For example, Angel smells like BO and Cadburys on me, but smells wonderfully floral on my SIL.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 13/07/2016 16:55

Haha - I'm sure it smells very lovely on you MissB!!! Smile Yes, it must be my skin. It is the only scent that I LOVE on other people yet smells off on me, just like it has turned. But it cant be, as the bottles are new. Darnit to hell!!!Angry

I remember my friend used to wear Deep Red and it was so gorgeous on her but on me it smelled heavy and dirty. It's so funny how that happens.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 13/07/2016 17:00

I hesitated a little before joining this thread as I thought you would all know each other so well and your knowledge of perfume would put mine to shame. But I just love perfume so much I thought I'd go for it and I'm so glad I did. You are all lovely and I'm learning so much about my favourite thing in the world.*

*after DH and kids of course!! Smile

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 17:04

LastGirl- it's an interesting point about how perfume smells different on others. For example, Thierry Mugler Womanity was so disgusting it actually made me physically gag. Yet my friend, who is also a Fumehead, rather liked it. I looked on Fragrantica, seeing if I was alone and loads of people really loved it. I think it smelled like rancid mermaids knickers!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 13/07/2016 19:44

I don't think I have ever smelled Womanity....am curious though!!

I absolutely HATE Tom Ford Black Orchid on me. I despise it with a passion. My friend wears it and it suits her so well and is so luxurious on her that I asked for a spray. It was so revolting on me and I couldn't get it off!! I scrubbed my wrists with soap and cleanser - even Fairy Liquid!!! Nothing shifted it!! Yet I know many people adore it.

cressetmama · 13/07/2016 20:08

There have been scents I really disliked, but I must have forgiving skin or nose as there haven't been many I had to scrub off. One or two mind, some of the ELdOs were not my bag at all!

Perfume does react to (women's) skin very differently; rather less than men's apparently. So what you love on your friend may be pants (salome) on you, and Salome just a lovely slightly sharp scent for you. Women's skin is more reactive, I have been told.

SoTD was Fire, because it's cheap enough to use with abandon.

cressetmama · 13/07/2016 20:09

Women's skin is more, not less, reactive... Blush

ilovetosleep · 13/07/2016 20:11

Ok then lovely perfumistas. Can you help me find something new for the summer? In my collection I have Samsara, Mitsouko, Chanel no 5, Chanel Coco Noir, Elixir des Merveilles, JM Dark Amber and Gingerlily, SLP Lovely, Prada Infusion d'Iris, Prada L'eau D'ambree, Paul Smith Rose.

None of which (bar SJP, Rose and Iris) are very summery. I'd love something orangey or green but nothing too light and fleeting - most perfume seems to last 5 mins on me. eg I have sprayed Iris twice today already and can no longer smell it.

In the past I have ordered a heap of samples from nose.fr - 3 lots, I think, and have only enjoyed about 3. I have found most of them sweet and cloying - I generally dislike Vanilla and anything too sugary. The ones I have loved are Cuir Cordoba, L'air du Rien and Feuilles du Tabac. Quilte liked Etro Rajasthan. Thought I would love Seville d"aube but while it smelled AMAZING on my brothers skin it was just awful on me, couldn't wash the smell away quick enough.

Anyway. I am quite remote and can only access mainstream high street stuff. I have Fire on order thanks to this thread.

What should I try on my next trip into town? I really loved some of the Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterranean range - the Arancia and the Cedre ones in particular but no longevity on me at all. Also quite like Jour d'hermes on the card strip. Am Tempted to sod the search and buy Eau des Merveilles as I know I adore it and will wear it lots, but just think I should try something new. Have got some birthday money to spend and am feeling a bit spontaneous, not really in the mood for a parcel of samples that I 'll like very few of...

So hit me with your suggestions!
(might re post this if a new thread appears in the next hour!)

ilovetosleep · 13/07/2016 20:14

Oh, and I should have said I love Sandalwood - I was very generousy given a bottle of TF Santal Blush and its my favourite...

cressetmama · 13/07/2016 21:37

I think you should look at the Parfums d'Empire line Ilove. They are not widely sold but Les Senteurs have them in London, and they manage to be niche and gorgeous. My favourite rose is Eau Suave, but the range has so much to offer.

ilovetosleep · 13/07/2016 21:41

Ok thanks Cressest. Don't know where to start really. Why do you think I would like them - I've never heard of it before! Will order some samples but would really like to try something I can get hold of easily - I am not UK and no where will send perfume samples here, so its a bit of a palava getting them sent to family in UK and forwarded to me...

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 21:49

ilovetosleep- you have a fabulous collection! I too dislike vanilla and adore sandalwood. Have you tried Diptyque Tam Dao? IMO its the best sandalwood scent ever, but admittedly not very summery.

Have you tried any Atelier Cologne? They have all the qualities of a cologne but are very long lasting. I tried Orange Sanguine recently and it stayed put for nine hours and was still orangey. They do a sample service and you get the price of the samples taken off any full bottle you buy. They're based in Paris, so if you;re in Europe shipping won;t be a problem.

MissBattleaxe · 13/07/2016 21:50

Heck, we need a new thread, quick!

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/07/2016 21:53

SOTD here was JHAG Mad Madame. Had another shower in the evening and put on Heeley Sel Marin with my pjs.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 13/07/2016 22:05

SOTE is again, L'Aimant. I just adore this - my youngest DD asked for a spray tonight too as she said she loves it as well. So unbelievable for £8!!!!!
