Very, very late night last night with the wonderful 4160 Tuesday's home chemistry lab. Wearing my latest creation today: a rose absolute/frankincense/cedar combo, a couple of stops short of a full-on oud. I learn a little more each time about how different elements behave and combine.

MissBattleaxe · 06/03/2016 19:14

flighty- I SO agree with you! Again!

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/03/2016 23:14

YetAnother - I was slightly worried that he thought I smelled like that all the time, so didn't notice any difference!

YetAnotherNC · 07/03/2016 08:05

MrsS ShockGrin

MissBattleaxe · 07/03/2016 09:29

MrsCocoa-that sounds like a wonderful blend! Did you give it a name?

getoffthattabletnow · 07/03/2016 09:50

Serge Lutens Laine de Verre today.Yes,i smell of Pine bathroom cleaner!
Mrs Cocoa your perfume kit sounds like a more grown up version of my Chemistry lab kit I loved as a youngster.
Love the results of the informal Salome survey Grin.

SOTD Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar. Soft sweet almond, its perfect for work and is giving me a lift as I've been feeling a bit down about some stuff I have going on.

SOTD Loewe Gala. Quite heavy and sweet, but lovely. Feminine and a bit dark, patchouli and ylang-ylang and a bit musky. I feel very femme fatale! And the tiny but perfect miniature bottle is beautiful too - midnight blue and gold.

thecatfromjapan · 07/03/2016 14:32

Flighty I don't want your request for an Artisan chypre to go unanswered but ... I can't help you! I googled and the suggestion was to try 'Timbuktu'.
Shockingly, with the exception of 'Chasse' and 'Dzing', I think I am now avoiding Artisan perfumes. So I think I may not be the person to answer your question - however well-intentioned and keen-to-be-helpful I am.

What sort of chypres do you like?

My current favourite is 'Bottega Veneta', which just strikes me as a properly 'grown-up' perfume.

Confession: I think I've been swayed to the total-gourmand dark side! I tried 'Baccarat' at the weekend. It's a lot like Hermes' 'Merveilleux' but with a bit of (salty? Citrusy?) friction and an enormous heft - staying power is amazing; I can still smell it today.

I have to admit I really loved it.Grin

thecatfromjapan · 07/03/2016 14:35

crapartist glad to hear you're perfume is giving you a lift.

I'm breaking out the comfort scents this week.

Hope your day goes well.Smile

FrustratedFrugal · 07/03/2016 17:43

Crapartist perfume can be really comforting - hoping things will get easier soon.

I have a streaming head cold. Particularly cruel for a perfumista!

getoffthattabletnow · 07/03/2016 19:13

Do you get the candy floss accord from Baccarat Rouge CatfromJapan?
I love this Scent but normally heartily dislike gourmands.
Kids and adults alike really seem to adore this smell too.My dd2 was asking what the perfume was yesterday. When asked what she could smell she said Candy and other things .She then said it's really strong but smells lovely.I'm thinking of buying a bottle if anyone wants a decant.
Frugal I love Samsara and Bois Farine when full of cold.Green scents somehow just smelt really bitter and horrible.

FrustratedFrugal · 07/03/2016 19:15

Oh great ideas Getoff - I might have some Samsara somewhere.

I'm toying with the idea of killing the germs with a huge blast of LADDM Grin

thecatfromjapan · 07/03/2016 19:35

Oh yes! Candy floss! I always thought I wasn't a big fan of gourmands, yet I found it really addictive. Was inhaling it compulsively today and yesterday.
:-)

Plumpysoft · 07/03/2016 19:44

I tried the new Jo Malone Wild Strawberry and Parsley - beautiful - sweet and unusual. Anyone want to do a swap for some perfume? I have a nearly full bottle of Molecule 1 and a nearly full bottle (only used 1 squirt) of Philosophy Gardenia. I like violet, woody green and citrus.... Would like to try Nirvana Black

cressetmama · 07/03/2016 19:56

Mostly a long walk through London today, with a spot of sniffing in Miller Harris in Covent Garden. Sprayed lots on cards and tried Sel Marin and Feuilles de Tabac on skin. Neither worked well but the Feuilles is lovely eight hours, and an hour of housework, later. Possibly a sample, but no more.

MrsCocoa · 07/03/2016 22:28

Emboldened by Mrs S, I

MrsCocoa · 07/03/2016 22:52

Whoops! Sorry.

Yes, MrsS inspired me to squirt the tiniest half spray of Theo Fennell's Scent and then head to the office today. (I haven't smelt Salome but I imagine Scent to be a first cousin?). It all broke down a bit then as I was too cowardly to ask opinions until 8 hours in, when it had finally settled down into a dark powdery rose/sandalwood. Am very impressed by your nerve Mrs S.

cressetmama · 08/03/2016 09:13

Envy you your chutzpah, MrsS!

getoffthattabletnow · 08/03/2016 13:55

Vintage Samsara today from a Swop.A really mellow lovely Sandalwood completely unlike the current rather strident Samsara I have.I'm guessing the notes have somewhat mellowed over the years.I also keep forgetting the top actually sprays and dropping all the bits. But the initial spray is absolutely divine.

maryclarey · 08/03/2016 14:10

Thanks thecat and frugal. Perfume can definitely be very up lifting. Things much the same today but have to keep going.

SOTD Roja Risqué La Femme which I got as a sample through a FB group. It's lovely! A tiny bit masculine (even though it's La Femme) but I like it a lot. Bitter citrus and wood, a lovely chyphre (might be one for you flighty. Longevity is ace, I've had it on 5 and a half hours already and it still very noticeable to my nose.

Are we allowed to sell/swap on here? I've put most of my recent TK Maxx finds plus others up for sale on FB because I have totally fallen in love with Maison Francis Kurkdijan and need to get more Blush

I am back in Cuir Cordoba today after being a tad disappointed overall with my samples from Germany.

I liked Hippie Rose on Saturday but then on Sunday when sitting in church was thinking someone around me had a bit of the sweaty BO going on, then realised it was the backwash of patchouli from the HR still on my coat collar from the day before. I still have Sel Marin to try but am worried it's going to do the Brut 33 thing like Chypre 21 did. (I would be up for sending that onto someone if they want to "splash it all over")

I cleansed myself with Chanel 19 yesterday. Grin

CointreauVersial · 08/03/2016 17:56

I need some Chanel No.19 in my life. I'm stalking some on eBay.

MissBattleaxe · 08/03/2016 17:58

Chanel No 19 is superb.

I am wearing JLo Deseo today and it's excellent. It's nothing like the usual celeb scents. It's white flowers, yuzu, bamboo, and a base of moss and amber. And very cheap but doesn't smell cheap.

flightywoman · 08/03/2016 18:13

The Cat chypres I like...hmm, well old-skool ones like Miss Dior, Dioressence, Chanel No 19, Givenchy III - 'proper' chypres in my mind.

I loved La Prairie Life Threads Platinum but it's been disconned Sad.

Aqua Manda was a real blast from the past, the relaunch isn't exactly the same whatever they might say, and doesn't last at all, but it was close enough for a bit of time-tunnel flashbacks!

I used to love Fidji, the old Guy Laroche scent.

Of the new ones I like all of the Papillon quartet, and the ones I've smelt in the JHAG sample set so far have gone well, but will need a second pass to start identifying them properly.

I don't like Clarins Eau Dynamisante though...
