I'm working from home today, so I'm happily enveloped in a cloud of black opium, which feels wickedly decadent. It's one of those scents that I love but usually only wear on occasional evenings out. Not suitable for the office.

On that note, I'd love a recommendation for an office -suitable perfume that I'll like. I'm a fan of rose and violet florals, vanilla and spice. I don't mind powdery or woodsy but definitely don't like citrus, jammy fruit, or anything sharp. Clean, lemony or orange blossom scents that would be suitable work-wear smell like bleach on me :(.

What can I try that I'll like but won't be too hard hitting for work?

thecatfromjapan · 04/03/2016 15:05

frustratedfrugal I vote for the Prada- it's less innocent than the AAs and you can channel your inner 'I'll get this job done' vibe.

F how about Prada Oeillet - carnation rather than violet but I think it might lie in your area of fragrance-likes.

And then you and Frugal will be fragrance cousins in the workplace.Smile

Feawen · 04/03/2016 15:15

Oh, I've just read the fragrantica notes, and Prada Oeillet sounds delicious. A more understated take on the spicy florals I love. And I'm super-excited at the idea of being office fragrance cousins with Frugal, whose nose a thing of fascination to me ;)

getoffthattabletnow · 04/03/2016 15:28

Faewen- Drole D' Rose by L'Artisan Parfumeur,Ysl's Paris,Lipstick Rose - sprayed lightly- by Malle are all Violet Roses.Lovely Violet /Rose perfumes are by Annick Goutal Soliflores.Or Rosine perfumes sell lots of Rose perfumes in a sampler pack.Pure Rose perfumes include La fille de Berlin by Serge Lutens and Rose Perfection by Piguet.
The best Vanilla and Spice I know is Jo Malone's Vanilla & Anise which has unfortunately been discontinued .Bois Farine is a woody powdery Nutty perfume as is Samsara if you enjoy Sandalwood.
Crapartist Maison Francis K. Perfumes can be beautiful.Try a sampler pack.I've been very taken with Baccarat Rouge, adore Amyris Femme and Aqua Universalis and dislike the Ouds and the Pluriel.
Testing a couple of Aerin Lauder perfumes today.Gardenia Rattan a salty coconut infused Gardenia and Ikat Jasmine- a fresh aqueous Jasmine.Umm...they don't smell like niche perfumes but totally non-original.Pleasant enough but mass produced.

cressetmama · 04/03/2016 16:44

Seconding the Prada Vetiver for Frugal's office scent.

Feawen, I like the Hermes Jardin series for office-appropriate levels of sillage. Or the Bulgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert, which is divine, and very light.

VeryPunny · 04/03/2016 16:47

You lot are a bad influence! Since I browsed the last thread I bought a bottle of Cuir De Russie after going bonkers in the Chanel boutique at Stansted. Love, love, love it but only have a few opportunities to wear it. Have also bought the Artisan tester box.

Wearing Coco EDP today, as per. Been wearing it most days over winter so looking forward to breaking out some spring scents soon.

YetAnotherNC · 04/03/2016 16:55

SOTD Bal a Versailles - sample from Les Senteurs. Rather like it, it is halfway between L'air de Rien and Salome. I don't think it's going to replace Salome in my affections, it's a bit too sweet, but I really like the slightly naughty boudoir smell. It's gentle and comforting in the dry-down, not quite as in-your-face as Salome. Lasts really well on me. Definitely a decant contender.

YetAnotherNC · 04/03/2016 16:55

I have Musc Tonkin to try tomorrow....

YetAnotherNC · 04/03/2016 17:00

VeryPuny I love Cuir de Russie too. My sample is down to the fumes now but I think I'll be looking for a decant soon.

FrustratedFrugal · 04/03/2016 17:07

Feaven I was also going to suggest Lipstick Rose (or if you want a really beautiful plain bottle, Misia from Chanel). But I am definitely taking Prada Vetiver to the office and would be happy to be perfume twins with you Grin

Another even more decadent idea would be to take the Malle Miniature collection there. Most of them are fab office scents, refined but not in your face excluding POTL and Noir Epices. But I might get carried away playing with them, never getting any work done Grin

Jardins and Bulgaris are a great choice too - I have the The Rouge somewhere.

SOTD En Passant. Going to wear either oudh or Bal a Versailles tomorrow.

Feawen · 04/03/2016 17:10

Thank you for all the lovely recommendations! I adore Drole d'rose, with its rose/violet/almond notes, so Table has my taste absolutely right, but I'd wear it with a short silk shift dress to a cocktail party! I couldn't wear it to work, I'd come over all inappropriate 😳.

Fille de Berlin is on my 'to try' list. Thé Vert is going on there too. It's kind of an off-the-wall choice for me, totally different to my usual preferences, but an ethereal fragrance that isn't citrus blossom (and thus on me like toilet duck) actually appeals.

thecatfromjapan · 04/03/2016 17:13

I love En Passant.

Is the Malle miniature set available again??????

FrustratedFrugal · 04/03/2016 17:57

I have the old one, it seemed expensive at the time, but I have really, really liked it.

thecatfromjapan · 04/03/2016 17:59

I spent too long thinking about it - and it sold out. I've regretted it ever since.Smile
Lucky you!

MelanieCheeks · 04/03/2016 18:39

I've loved trying the new Jo Malone herb garden scents this week. Think my favourite is Nasturtium and Clover.

MrsCocoa · 04/03/2016 22:32

Joined some of you in wearing Another Oud today - quite like it although have mixed feelings about the very distinct presence of Norlimbanol. I'm always drawn in by the lovely dry heat (bit like a Victory V tablet for those old enough to remember), but for me it comes at the price of an irritating buzz (like a trapped insect) - gives me a headache.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 05/03/2016 13:24

Heeley Hippie Rose today...now this is much more me! Still not getting much rose, but lovely sexy earthy patchouli musky slutty scent. (In a good way grin )

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/03/2016 13:51

SOTD Encre Noir. The cat is in heaven. Grin

I wore Salome to the office the other day (my office is almost entirely male) and asked the men there what they thought of it. These were the results:

"Ugh. Just ugh."

"It smells like a perfume trying to disguise sweaty pants."

"It smells like you've had a good shag and put your pants on straight afterwards."

"Oh my God, that's amazing. It's a really sexy smell, I love it."

"Vile. Please go and wash it off."

"I can't smell anything." Confused

Grin
YetAnotherNC · 06/03/2016 07:28

MrsS haha! I've wondered what others think when I wear Salome out in public, but I've been too afraid to ask. Canvassing opinion at the school gate seemed a bit inappropriate....! I am stunned by the person who couldn't smell anything - the man with no nose???

SOTD yesterday was Le Labo Labdanum, sample from Scentsamples. I really love it, but am worried by the hints of baby powder and nappy bags. Sounds awful, but I found it deeply comfortable and soothing. But it's a bit of a transition from sexy raunchy Salome, to nappy-bag and talcum Labdanum. A bit like life I suppose....! Grin

SOTD today will be Fracas, another sample. Reminds me of something but I can't for the life of me think what it is.

FrustratedFrugal · 06/03/2016 07:49

Would love to wear Bal à Versailles today but MIL is coming to visit us Grin

FrustratedFrugal · 06/03/2016 07:54

I love Le Labo Labdanum. DH thinks it's something that a middle aged Middle Eastern woman with a penchant for leopard print would wear Wink I wear it anyway. Facets of Shalimar...

maryclarey · 06/03/2016 12:34

SOTD is MFK A la Rose. I've been away for the weekend and picked up MFK Oud Silk Wood and Aqua Vitae Forte and the salesperson generously threw in samples of A la Rose, APOM, Oud and Amaryllis. A la Rose is very transparent but definitely an authentic rose. Oud and Oud Silk Wood are both very long lasting beautiful delicate ouds. I'm sure I can detect a little chocolate in Oud. Basically they are all lovely and I now just want to buy the entire line 😁

Also picked up some samples of the new TF Neroli Aqua and the Prada Infusions line to try out this week.

YetAnotherNC · 06/03/2016 13:24

Frugal that would be a good enough reason to wear BaV for me... Grin

CointreauVersial · 06/03/2016 17:50

Crumbs, you lot....nearly 50 posts already.

My lovely offspring gave me a bottle of Lush All Good Things for Mother's Day - clever DD1 remembered me trying it last time we were out shopping, but not realising how gorgeous it was until it was too late to buy it. I don't know what the opposite to "linear" is (bendy??), but this fragrance seems to change every time I take a sniff - smoke, caramel, aniseed...all good things indeed.

flightywoman · 06/03/2016 17:55

Sooooo...

As a lover of most things chypre, which of the L'artisan am I likely to find most appealing?

I am not at all keen on the sweet/sugary end of things. In the words of the lady on the La Prairie concession at my local HoF "I want to smell like an adult woman, not a piece of fruit".
