Does anyone still follow any Trinny and Susannah 'rules'?

Was a disciple back in the day, which has led to some embarrassing photos, I can tell you.

But there are still some rules I follow, semi-subconsciously.

I don't wear bright colour on top and black trousers, for example. And I clean my teeth twice before a night out.

I'm sure there are others. Anyone else indoctrinated? (see what I did there?)

No, I'm a grown up now, I don't let anyone tell me what to wear (apart from my mother)!

I think some of the stuff about necklines was useful but it was hardly groundbreaking. It had been said before and has been said since, it was just common sense. The rest was mainly guff and all the stuff in the 360 mirror with manhandling women in their undies was just grotesque.

I can't remember any of their rules. Apart from 'black is not slimming'. I hated the way the taller presenter dressed, her clothes never seemed to suit her. In the makeover programmes they seemed to dress a lot of people the opposite of their usual style. So if you were conservative dresser you'd find yourself in leisure trainers and combats, or vice versa...

I still won't wear polo or turtle necks as I am too norky, but I do sometimes risk a chunky knit on my top half.

Oh, I know, I look back and cringe.

Many many dresses over trousers here in the old days

But some stuff has stuck...the stuff about thin bracelets crosses my mind. And how to stand so you look thin in photos

Does anyone remember 'She's Gotta Have It?' with Liza Tarbuck?

I loved that show. I used to like a good shopping programme.

I preferred Trin and Suze to Nicky Hambleton Jones, or whatever her name was. She just used to hack people's faces off and call it a makeover

Oh I adored them at the time OP, I had one of their books and never missed their TV programs! Looking back, I remember them as a right nasty pair of bullies. Yes they always pointed out every woman's 'good' bits but the boob grabbing and knicker removing were really grim

Having said that, I do still try to buy narrow waisted jackets with lapels (big busted apple shape). And I think they were right about colour and black, although this can be a bit hard to stick to

I know a lady who was on the show.

When I see her I look to see if she is still following 'The Rules'.

Yes yes to wrap dresses and wearing trousers underneath! Think both look ghastly now, wrap dresses are OK in a block colour but awful in a print, so aging

I gobsmacked that they were given air time let alone that people ever followed their 'rules' - I used to wish people would tell them to fuck off and stop being so bitchy towards them!

There was a particularly brilliant lifestyle one which recommended getting all the food for a dinner party delivered from Ocado, and going for a long walk in your MBTs if you were feeling stressed.

Oh my god, I even changed my energy supplier to a Green one because T and S told me to. It cost loads more. I soon came to my senses.

I still follow the rules on necklines, sleeve length, how to pose in photos and not mixing black with brights.

No cap sleeves for chunky arms remains a good one.
And no crop trousers for short legs.

I think the wrap dresses etc were a product of their era, I doubt they would recommend them now.

I liked their programme when it was the half-hour BBC format. It became unwatchable when they moved to ITV, made it an hour long and full of pop-psychology.

Only thing I follow, and indeed the only thing i remember, is the high neckline/big chest no-no. Other than that I can't even remember what they said

It's true about the big norks/high neckline thing.

I remember them pouncing on Valerie Singleton at an awards ceremony and practically shaving her head.

How she didn't burst into tears I'll never know.

I liked their bra interventions - not the grabbing, but most people did look better just by getting a decent bra on them
