Does anyone still follow any Trinny and Susannah 'rules'?

Was a disciple back in the day, which has led to some embarrassing photos, I can tell you.

But there are still some rules I follow, semi-subconsciously.

I don't wear bright colour on top and black trousers, for example. And I clean my teeth twice before a night out.

I'm sure there are others. Anyone else indoctrinated? (see what I did there?)

Thanks stevie!
I've also realised I've got an unusual body dismorphia. When I look in the mirror I see someone who is a whole dress size smaller than the person in those pictures Confused

Valsoldknickers · 11/06/2015 21:52

You look great dun1urkin, I like 1 & 3 best.

dun1urkin · 11/06/2015 21:56

Thank you. I like 1 & 3 the best too.
And I will remain convinced I'm smaller than I look in the pictures despite the evidence Grin Grin The camera adds at least a stone, don't ya know Wink

peroson who bought a sleeveless cowl neck jumper

ZaZathecat · 11/06/2015 22:08

I remember Ingrid Tarrant told them where to shove it!

BertieBotts · 11/06/2015 22:14

I never watched it at the time, but I've been getting into learning about body shape and colour theory recently and someone mentioned them, so I looked up some old episodes on Youtube. I found it a bit shocking and brutal actually Blush I suppose that reality shows go in cycles of fashion, it was the original Popstars/Pop Idol era, wasn't it? Where the order of the day was to slag people off and then you'd make them all shiny by the end and it would magically be okay. Bit weird. Okay so today it's all earnest conversations on screen while heavily implying and editing in obvious ways for the viewers to judge, but still!

I did see one listed in the episode guide about "women who were teenage mothers" which I'd quite like to have watched. But it's not online anywhere, most of them aren't.

BertieBotts · 11/06/2015 22:15

Oh and YY to the whole "everyone should look sexy" thing. The entire format is dripping with sexism.

RecoveringPerfectionist · 11/06/2015 22:26

Does anyone remember the show Would Love To Meet? They'd get someone who was disastrous at dating and they'd have a style expert (Jay someone?), that Tracey Cox sex expert and some guy called Jeremy to help them with confidence, style, conversation etc. It was a good show - a bit more gentle and with a bit more substance. Also used to like Faking It.

I did like the original Trinny and Susannah, and Lisa Snowdon, then Mica Paris and someone else took over too (a tall leggy model). I didn't like the new format Trinny and Susannah though.

I don't know! Blush

It was chunky knit too. I often wore it with a denim jacket and black boot cut trousers. I remember loving it but kept thinking I was wearing it wrong other than it just being awful Grin

herethereandeverywhere · 11/06/2015 22:52

dun1 the reason it went yellow in the second picture was because there was much more black in the picture so your phone shot it like it was at low light [I think]

Not directly relevant to thread...sorry. I think all your dresses 1-3 suit you actually. I loved T&S and longed for a makeover Blush

BitOfFun · 11/06/2015 23:01

Yet another hazard of wearing black...

lurkingaround · 11/06/2015 23:03

RecoveringP I remember that dating programme! I thought it was awful. Couldn't watch it. Tho I agree they were gentler on their victims participants.

My abiding memory is of the stylist woman. Her hair was poker straight, stuck to her head. There's straight, and then there's straight, à la her. Strange what else remember!

lurkingaround · 11/06/2015 23:04

What we remember. Don't know where the 'else' came from.

dun1urkin · 11/06/2015 23:17

here thanks for clearing that up! Makes sense

ImperialBlether · 11/06/2015 23:43

Remember the Greek teacher who lived with his mum on Would Like To Meet? They sent him on a date with someone from their team and he just put his head in his dinner and gobbled it all up without speaking at all.

When they went back to see how he'd progressed he'd turned into this dyed blonde shaved headed extrovert - it was really, really weird.

Am I the only one who remembers him? Bet one of you is married to him!

Minndy · 11/06/2015 23:50

I loved watching them and they were good for their time. There wasn't really anything else back then and they did help a lot of women to feel better about themselves and feel and look more confident. In their latter programs from America they seemed to have lost their sense of style a bit.
I loved a wrap dress over bootcuts. Im very tall and the look still works on me now. Very elegant.

Minndy · 12/06/2015 00:16

And I love wearing black with camel, white or cream. So classy ( IMO)

DressMeHeadToFootInTommy · 12/06/2015 00:31

NO. Some of their suggestions were so silly. I worked in the city, and I'm five foot one. I remember laughing at their suggestion to wear a dress over trousers.

Trinny is going out with an abusive man so clearly clothes don't give one self-esteem..........

Almahart · 12/06/2015 06:49

Another one here who wore wrap dresses over trousers. Yikes.

Would like to meet was brilliant. I remember it being quite gentle and not exploitative

stevienickstophat · 12/06/2015 06:58

I loved Would Like To Meet!

There was a lovely gay teacher on once - he pops into my mind occasionally, I hope he's happy now. He seemed so lonely.

There was also a woman who told a story on the filmed 'date' about an ex whose balls her dog licked while they were shagging Grin

A girl after my own heart Wink

I think a black top with a coloured bottom is okay, I wear that a lot.

It's the other way round that's the problem.

OP posts:
Almahart · 12/06/2015 07:26

Oh god I remember that woman too!

I think it's the jewel coloured top, boot leg black trousers that they were down on wasn't it.

TealFanClub · 12/06/2015 07:27

i never got how wrap tops or dresses were supposed to make your tits better

it made mine look like two ' divide and separate' nuclear warheads

noddyholder · 12/06/2015 07:38

Hate wrap anything and too many TV stylists think adding a belt is the answer to everything.

ZaraW · 12/06/2015 07:39

My favourite episode was the hairdresser with the curly hair who definitely knew what she liked. She hated the clothes T&S chose for her and she continued wearing her old clothes.

They still show WNTW in the US with Stacy London though I think S&T were more entertaining.
