Does anyone still follow any Trinny and Susannah 'rules'?

Was a disciple back in the day, which has led to some embarrassing photos, I can tell you.

But there are still some rules I follow, semi-subconsciously.

I don't wear bright colour on top and black trousers, for example. And I clean my teeth twice before a night out.

I'm sure there are others. Anyone else indoctrinated? (see what I did there?)

I remember T&S saying that navy suited no-one. And tapered trousers always looked awful (although they look hideous on me, so I've kept hold of that one).

RaisingSteam · 11/06/2015 13:38

I love rules and pored over the books, but did the HOC style/colour thing more recently so I have personalised rules now Grin.

So black and a colour or ideally 2 colours is OK for me (a winter). Also I have a large bust but shouldn't show off cleavage (too short waisted) so I don't wear low scoop necklines any more.

I think a lot of the principles stand up OK if not taken too literally.

It changes a lot with fashion, it used to be wear fitted tops and bootcut jeans to flatter and balance your shape, now all of a sudden we've decided that's dated/mumsy, and loose flappy tops and skinny jeans are the thing. the silhouette of fashion is always changing.

squizita · 11/06/2015 13:39

... I am short. I have no desire to fake tall. I wear crops (well fitted) and flats. Smile Tall friends wear heels. Why should we all pretend to be size 10 and 5"5?

stevienickstophat · 11/06/2015 13:40

I'm loose and flappy with skinnies today.

Forgot what they said about navy. I look nice in navy...

Evalynn YY ... part of my issue was they themselves looked effing dreadful.

stevienickstophat · 11/06/2015 13:42

I remember Susannah turning up to an awards ceremony with a quiff.

That was the beginning of the end, I think.

I wear a lot of navy!

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 13:46

Yes I think how they look is the kiss of death for any style they advocate. The assumption that we are all trying to do 'tricks' to look hour glass is what makes it ridiculous

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 13:47

I am amused though at being referred to as cheap and nasty Grin and the assumption that the women in the links are somehow not 'real'

MrsCampbellBlack · 11/06/2015 13:54

I blame them and Gok for all women with big boobs having enormous cleavages on show.

I have boobs but still wear high necks - you can create the illusion of a v shape with a necklace I find without showing acres of flesh.

I did find them entertaining in their old old programmes though.

Pantsalive · 11/06/2015 13:57

Not too sure about this little number that they're flogging very cheaply on QVC.

Definitely not sure it suits Susannah, although she says it's her favourite dress!!

stevienickstophat · 11/06/2015 13:58

Dear me, that is a dog of a dress.

If you are standing with your arms bu your side for a photo and turn the thumb side of the hand out a little it turns your elbow in and you get a more flattering line. That might not have been T&S.

DownWithThisTypeOfThing · 11/06/2015 14:01

I thought that was ok in the small thumbnail pic I could see on my phone and then I clicked the video Shock

In fairness they did do a range of clothes with either a catalogue or website (Littlewoods?) and I ordered a dress for a wedding - it was £40+ so fairly reasonable and it was beautifully made - lovely material, fully lined and lots of attention to detail with the buttons etc. I sent it back though as I never ended up going to the wedding.

Do people really pose in 'snaps'? Not exactly capturing the moment

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 14:02

They have red top black trousers on there so they don't stick to their own rules!

Nettletheelf · 11/06/2015 14:03

I thought they were spot on most of the time, and a breath of fresh air. Particularly when they debunked the myth that it's not what you wear, it's how you wear it!

I learned quite a lot from them about how to dress for my shape. They went too far off piste when they started trying to do psychology and mend relationships. Stick with the frocks! However, when they were on BBC I was impressed by the way they transformed their subjects' appearance. T & S usually looked good, too, and weren't afraid to take risks with colours and patterns. I feel a bit sorry for them, stuck on QVC.

Fortinbras · 11/06/2015 14:04

I watched them about once. Surely the more people get bombarded with rules, advice or helpful tips about what they should wear to be acceptable to the people people judging them, the more stressed and upset they are going to get. And the more stressed and upset they get, the less they are going to be able to be what they are as opposed to being what the people judging them think they sould be.

I don't but I should probably start instead of pulling a stupid embarrassed face where I end up looking like a gurning fool and everyone else looks great.

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 14:12

nor do I! I always look terrible

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2015 14:12

I'm wearing black trousers and a yellow top today - but It is v neck and I am quite norkious if that helps?

ihatethecold · 11/06/2015 14:15

You not heard of selfies noddy Grin

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 14:16

Love black and yellow

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 14:16

I don't have a camera phone :)

Hoppinggreen · 11/06/2015 14:22

Thanks noddy . I think I look quite nice
