Does anyone still follow any Trinny and Susannah 'rules'?

Was a disciple back in the day, which has led to some embarrassing photos, I can tell you.

But there are still some rules I follow, semi-subconsciously.

I don't wear bright colour on top and black trousers, for example. And I clean my teeth twice before a night out.

I'm sure there are others. Anyone else indoctrinated? (see what I did there?)

Gok's bad for grabbing. I don't like Gok. I once saw one of his shows where he put a load of women in an empty swimming pool and turned a fire hose on them.

Necklines! I know it sounds obvious now, but I have enormous norks and no-one had ever said, 'hey, don't wear a polo neck'.

Life changing.

burnishedsilver · 11/06/2015 12:07

I really liked them but its all so dated now. The rules have changed eg. Leather on the top half only.....there are some gorgeous leather pencil skirts around these days.

Postino · 11/06/2015 12:07

I still do no ankle strap on wide ankles. Also no bias cut dresses/skirts for pear shape, but you only need a mirror to see that!

stevienickstophat · 11/06/2015 12:08

There was something about not wearing shiny fabric on the bottom half if you are generously built?

I know that Trinny used to say you could flash your nipples if you had small tits.

Gok wan should be made swan around a shopping centre in his underwear to get a taste of his own medicine. In fairness to trinny and Suzanna, they were just as grabby with each other and didn't mind exposing their own problem areas.

stevienickstophat · 11/06/2015 12:12

I feel a bit sorry for them marooned on QVC.

Reading through all these 'things they said' I realise I do follow a lot.
They were very good at dressing women. who wanted to look like a Fulham prep school teacher meeting the in laws

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 12:15

They still love a hideous wrap dress with a horrible print and peplums and ott sleeve shapes etc

stevienickstophat · 11/06/2015 12:17

So far then, we agree that:

No polo necks for big norks
No ankle straps for big ankles
No black bottoms/bright top combos
No cap sleeves for big arms
No bias cut skirts for big hips
Stick your chest out and turn to the side slightly for photos
Deep V necks for norkies

Are all good T & S rules?

But:

print wrap dresses
stretchy knee boots
chunky necklaces
wrap dress over trousers

Not so good

I quite liked them. I still use:

  • wedge heels for thick ankles
  • mixing colours rather than colour on black.
toodles · 11/06/2015 12:22

I remember that episode where they removed her knickers. She was so embarrassed.

What is the sleeve length rule?

MamaMary · 11/06/2015 12:22

They were good at dressing women, for the most part.

However they said unless you're a size 8 never wear skinny jeans. I'm not a size 8 and I wear skinnies. Boot cut were all the rage back then.

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 12:24

I wear polo necks and am busty just needs a good bra and posture

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 12:24

I am similar shape to sisannah but different taste

hippospot · 11/06/2015 12:28

I was a fan and had the books.

I am built like Trinny and it was a revelation learning what suited my shape. Obviously the stuff looks dated now but the general principles are mostly spot-on I think.

Which isn't to say they weren't a bit blunt with the poor women on the show.

netty7070 · 11/06/2015 12:28

I still follow the general guidlelines about proportions, no ankle straps on chunky ankles etc.

A lot of it was common sense but I think they laid it all out well.

Valsoldknickers · 11/06/2015 12:28

I still have three of their books stevie (but haven't read them in years!)

I do remember them squeezing victims women into one button blazers which were far too small for them and fitting them with trousers that would drag along the floor (ie badly needed taking up) Grin

Still I loved watching them on the beeb in my youf.

GobblersKnob · 11/06/2015 12:29

Twas a sad day when I gave all their books to the charity shop Grin

Have mostly stuck to not wearing colour with black, I had their book which was full of all kind of colour combo rules, almost wish I'd kept that one had some good ideas, used it like a bible for a while, but it completely put me off wearing black and white as apparently they didn't suit me. Still rarely wear white unless I have a good tan, but love wearing black again.

I still wear dresses with skinnies, but smocks not wrap, am vair tall so think I get away with it.

Their neckline rules are still law, would not and could not put a roll neck or a cable jumper over my norks Wink

Purplehonesty · 11/06/2015 12:32

Never wear colour with black! is all that sticks out for me.

And I don't wear ankle strap shoes as I have short legs but I can't remember if it was them who said that.

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 11/06/2015 12:33

I tried on a wrap dress the other day and realised, although they make your waist look small, they make your hips look disproportionately big. So I didn't buy it.

ImperialBlether · 11/06/2015 12:33

What is meant to be wrong with coloured tops and black trousers?

Nooname01 · 11/06/2015 12:39

I was wondering that too about black and colour, I do it all the time!

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 12:48

I don't think the black with colour thing stands I wear green with black loads and pink
