Does anyone still follow any Trinny and Susannah 'rules'?

Was a disciple back in the day, which has led to some embarrassing photos, I can tell you.

But there are still some rules I follow, semi-subconsciously.

I don't wear bright colour on top and black trousers, for example. And I clean my teeth twice before a night out.

I'm sure there are others. Anyone else indoctrinated? (see what I did there?)

The black and colour thing's stuck with me, I only wear black with neutrals but from what I remember they really didn't like black whereas I'm a big fan.

Like evalynn's said, they never seemed to think about what their victims actually liked, they just tried to force them into what freebies they'd got T&S liked. The one I remember most was a lovely sloaney woman who possibly could have done with a bit of advice on more flattering clothes that still tied in with her taste but T&S just made her over to look like every other bugger they ever made over. The poor thing looked thoroughly miserable at the reveal and when they revisited her a while later she'd ignored all their advice because it obviously wasn't her at all.

I am a size 8 and will never, ever wear skinny jeans. I think they look vile. No matter how slim you are they make your arse and thighs (and feet) look enormous. Bootcut till I die - don't care how unfashionable they are, at leadt the cut is flattering. I cannot be the only person who thinks this, surely?

squizita · 11/06/2015 14:28

Pantsalive that looks like a 5 year old's drawing of an actual nice dress. A 5 year old who was last to the crayon box and git the grim muddy colours at the bottom.

atticusfinchatemybaby · 11/06/2015 14:31

I take it back. A giraffe. A giraffe would look good in skinny jeans, if you could get over the fact it was a giraffe wearing jeans.

cathyandclaire · 11/06/2015 14:34

I seem to remember they said that if you wore black with brights you would end up looking like Liza Minelli ( and not in her Sally Bowles days).
It's stuck in my mind because they ruined red and black for me :(

s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/b4/92/55/b49255c4cf5b66a86f501e193591203f.jpg pinterest is full of lovely colours with black. I am nearly 50 so don't really do rules tbh but I did notice around 40 black looked terrible on me for a couple of years now I wear it again a lot and it looks ok!

ImperialBlether · 11/06/2015 14:52

Wasn't it T&S where someone nominated you? I remember thinking how awful that would feel. There was a woman on there whose bitchy daughter nominated her - the mum loved clothes and dressed fashionably and young - her daughter used to wear her clothes. Without thinking through the consequences of losing a stash of clothes, her daughter said she wanted her to look older and more like a mum. So T&S got to work on her and she was incredibly upset for being nominated as she took such a lot of care over her appearance. At the end she was filmed feeding her horses, wearing the clothes that T&S had recommended. She'd continued wearing her own clothes - not sure how the relationship was with her daughter.

They used to put secret cameras in their bedrooms so you'd see them getting dressed - can't imagine how they got away with that without getting sued.

Love that last pic noddy.

BUT hold on hold on hold on!!
What's this about navy suiting nobody??? Did they say that? What's wrong with it? I love navy. Another rule broken...Grin

I love those leopard t bars in the pic with red trews black top Noddy. Anyone seen any about?

BringMeTea · 11/06/2015 15:01

I did watch T n S. I thought it was fun mostly but they went too far in the stripped bare surround sound mirror dept sometimes. I mostly remember them doing over Jeremy Clarkson. The big oaf. He was obstreperous and surly throughout. Insisted on wearing his 'uniform' of public school boy jeans/moleskins and baggy expensive shirt. I mean, I don't think they improved him (polish a turd comes to mind) but he was so bloodyminded.

I digressed. I LOVED the Liza Tarbuck show. Then it got taken over by either/or Jayne 'Celebrity Love Island' Middlemiss or Lisa Snowdon. Either way they didn't live up to Tarbuck.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 11/06/2015 15:04

Ah think Zara but sold out

noddyholder · 11/06/2015 15:11

burnishedsilver · 11/06/2015 15:17

The no colour with black thing was of its time. Fashion has moved on.

lurkingaround · 11/06/2015 15:18

I remember that lovely woman, Stepawayfromthezebras! You're right, they never took into consideration how the person liked to dress.

I also remember Jeremy C. God what a crank.

stevienickstophat · 11/06/2015 15:27

I know tea, it was shocking.

I once shouted at the tv as they explained that shopping 2nd hand meant you had low self esteem and weren't worth new.
Back then shopping second hand meant I was a student working in a pub/kids holiday camp who could afford designer labels and genuine 50s/60s cause I knew where to shop. Pre Ebay it meant battle plans and a day trip to gold dust secret towns with covetable charity shops. To this day I know which one several fashion mags dump their freebies on annually.
And now vintage is a thing, I have to name some bits on the bloody contents insurance! Shock

KingTut · 11/06/2015 15:45

Brown was the new black, back then.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 11/06/2015 15:46

So if I am a short fat apple with big tits and chubby arms what am I supposed to bear?

Besides a tent...

Or a bin bag...

AmberNectarine · 11/06/2015 17:53

Trinny will now always be the woman who had such little self-respect she hopped into bed with a man who was publicly violent toward his wife. Urgh.

Aside from that, I do agree that black with colour is awful and I won't wear it. Every time I break rank and do, I always wish I hadn't.

stevienickstophat · 11/06/2015 17:59

I think something involving v-necks, low rise trousers and bootcuts Take

Welcome to 2002 Grin

Also, "There is never a good time to wear shorts."

Floisme · 11/06/2015 18:18

The main things I remember are: 1) Work out your body shape. 2) Show off the bits you like about your body and play down the things you don't. It sounds like the science of the bleeding obvious now but at the time (late nineties?) I'd never heard it before.

Their early BBC2 shows were a revelation for me. Until then I'd had no idea why some things suited me and others didn't. The later programmes were grim and I don't think I'll be catching up with them on QVC but I still have a soft spot for them.

BeginnerSAHM · 11/06/2015 19:10

Love this thread and I used to love T&S.... I do still think black with colour looks cheap though, sorry Blush. It makes the fabrics look bad. I think black with neutrals (cream, greys, taupes etc) looks much more stylish. That, however, is a personal opinion and definitely not a rule. And I like black with navy so there's the exception to my 'rule'...!
