Does anyone still follow any Trinny and Susannah 'rules'?

Was a disciple back in the day, which has led to some embarrassing photos, I can tell you.

But there are still some rules I follow, semi-subconsciously.

I don't wear bright colour on top and black trousers, for example. And I clean my teeth twice before a night out.

I'm sure there are others. Anyone else indoctrinated? (see what I did there?)

Hmm - someone gave me their book - as a bit of a joke.
I have no interest in clothes and hate shopping - I'm usually scruffy and throughout my life people have tried to dress me/make over. I then stick with a style - buy the same things until I can't any more... then I buy cheap things in the sale (usually supermarket) and I wear colours that I like rather than suit me. And they are always based on the same things - trousers and a top - I have 3 basic outfits I wear in winter and another 3 in summer. I don't have to think what to buy or to wear. Usually plenty big enough, practicality and comfort are the most important things..(I always have lots of pockets because I hate carrying a bag).

In the book it said it was because I lacked confidence - I think that's bollocks. (If I do need to make some effort I can and would dress to suit the occasion and who I was going with -wouldn't be comfortable with that only because I feel fake)
If I was a bloke I wouldn't be considered to lack confidence if I didn't care about clothes and makeup - just wore a trousers and a t/shirt/shirt. I wouldn't be expected to show off my nice bum or emphasise the shape of my bulge. I think it is sexist...

Oh no...I wear wrap dresses, boots and chunky necklaces and think I look quite good in them.

Ach well, since MN Style and Beauty is the new Trinny and Susannah I shall continue to wear and love them Grin

Oh yes. Belts. Ffs. I remember this slightly overweight small woman that Gok trussed up like a turkey in a really thick wide belt. Cripes it was awful. Fely so sorry for her, paraded in front of the nation.

Howl at the nuclear warheads. But I do agree. And wrap dresses add about 20 years to me.

squizita · 12/06/2015 09:31

Unlucky YY their "psychology" was always very dodgy and sexist. Women who were clearly happy enough told they MUST be unhappy because they dressed "wrong".
They did it to men too but not to the same extent.

squizita · 12/06/2015 09:33

Down and teal in the 90s I had a chunky cropped jumper. Really cropped. World's most impractical item of clothing ... hot in bars, cold in street.

noddyholder · 12/06/2015 09:56

I loved a crop knit mini tartan crinoline socks and clodhoppers! haha must have looked a sight

BertieBotts · 12/06/2015 10:12

I remember WLTM Grin My mum used to watch both that and WNTW.

I remember the "flirting tips" in WLTM which were awful Cosmo things like "Fiddle with your hair and make sure to do sticky eye contact".

BertieBotts · 12/06/2015 10:17

Argh, I had one of those too, horrible things!

MsBojangles · 12/06/2015 11:22

Must admit that I do feel self conscious if I wear black and a bright so I tend to wear my bright colours with white - looks nice and fresh especially at this time of year.

No doubt that contravenes some style law too Hmm

ProcessYellowC · 12/06/2015 11:43

I mostly hated how they were dressed, but did like some of their "rules".
Don't remember no bright top/ black bottom - but thinking about it, this isn't something I really do so maybe it's buried in my subconscious...

Ones I remember are:

No double-breasted blazers - not such an issue now, you'd be hard-pressed to find one
Buy suit jackets too small then don't do them up - will slim you - I never buy them to small but it means I don't take them to the charity shop as I spread!

Like someone else said some of their stuff was hardly new but they managed to present in a far less po-faced way than I'd ever seen before.

Am a bit Shock that they've ended up on QVC. I'd prefer to picture they have a lovely boutique somewhere that they open erratically while sipping gin.

GiantGaspingSatanicCyst · 12/06/2015 12:12

squizita I had a baby pink angora cropped jumper. Loved it, couldn't wear it anywhere as always too hot/cold.

Damnautocorrect · 12/06/2015 12:22

Yes what's with the belt thing, I've tried it, it looks like I've plonked a belt on something that shouldn't have a belt.

I'll freely admit I'm probably doing it wrong

unsinkable · 12/06/2015 12:37

I think there advice re neck lines holds true
they had a really useful chapters in one of their books which has continued to influence me- revelation about suiting 'mid tones' versus cool or warm

whiteiris · 14/06/2015 11:29

Just remembered "never iron jeans".

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 14/06/2015 12:56

I'Ve never watched Trinny and Suzannah which is quite unusual for me as I love anything to do with fashion.
I don't think I'd have really followed their rules, unless I liked their suggestions. I tend to follow my own fashion rules, not because I do t like being dictated to. I just prefer my own unique style.
I like to think I always look good, though
