What summer dresses can I wear with leggings?

Things that don't look weird with them!

I just discovered I love dresses but hate my legs, so don't want to wear them without leggings... The only ones I have are winter dresses so look OK with them, but I'm worried about summer dresses looking 'off' with leggings...

help please?

No, the op didn't ask for permission - she asked which dresses to wear, entirely different.

And my answer to that would be none

Nobody said she asked for permission... And nobody gave or declined to give 'permission' unless I've missed something!

Actually, she said she was worried about summer dresses looking 'off' with leggings and I agreed they would, in my own way Grin

I think dresses and leggings work well providing the dress isn't too long. I wear dresses and leggings with pumps or sandals. It's comfy and doesn't show too much flesh Grin

If the dress was to my knee or just under I wouldn't wear the leggings personally.

GooodMythicalMorning · 24/04/2015 21:24

Love leggings with a dress.

Harverina · 24/04/2015 21:31

I think if you pick the right summer dress they can look nice with leggings. Floaty chiffon pale colours won't work so well but tea dresses can look nice with them - you don't have to stick to black - I wear navy leggings too which aren't so dark and wintery

Bluestocking · 24/04/2015 21:50

Well, HappyGirl, you don't have to wear leggings and a dress, so you can stay happy. Those of us who like to wear leggings and a dress (occasionally, in my case, it's not my go-to everyday outfit) can be happy in our outfits too.
I do have some sympathy - every now and again there's a sartorial trend which really riles me - the last one was those god-awful shoeboot/ankleboots with skirts.

"Who makes these rules??"

The mumsnet fashion police. Ignore them, I always do. (says someone who has been wearing linen trousers this week).

HappyGirlNow · 24/04/2015 22:26

If folk can't handle other opinions they really should stay clear of the Style and Beauty thread because... Um... that's surely one of the main points of it! Wink

Leggings don't hide bad legs... Either wear dresses or trousers that do or just relax and wear whatever dress you want..

Branleuse · 25/04/2015 07:31

leggings are the best clothing invention ever.
ignore all the haters!!!

giraffesCantPluckTheirEyebrows · 25/04/2015 07:35

Why do people say legging don't hide things? They hide my milk bottle white legs and hairy knees ;)

And if I have leggings on under a skirt then I can crawl on floor with toddler without flashing my pants at play group.

I'm with you giraffescantplucktheireyebrows The freedom I have thanks to leggings is wonderful.

Bonsoir · 25/04/2015 07:50

I truly, honestly advise anyone thinking of wearing leggings with a summer dress to stop and think! A beautiful summer top/blouse with really well cut trousers/great jeans is just so much more glamorous.

Morebiscuitsplease · 25/04/2015 07:52

I wear leggings with dresses...it's still not too warm, so use them as layers and with my boots they look like thick tights. Once it is genuinely warm and bronzer has been applied I will show my legs. Tights I find, fall down and are not comfortable. My dresses are Jersey and not floaty ....think that makes. A big difference. ... Runs for cover from Mumsnet Fashion Police Wink

ElizabethHoover · 25/04/2015 07:55

I hate all those floppy tea dresses though tbh. Agree separates look more glamorous.

ElizabethHoover · 25/04/2015 07:56

Plus during my brief foray into begging a years ago I found the lack of a waistband to be very bad for my diet!

Branleuse · 25/04/2015 07:57

Okay, I will take the advice and hide the Style & Beauty topic, it is far too Mean Girls with delusions of Algonquin table grandeur!
