What summer dresses can I wear with leggings?

Things that don't look weird with them!

I just discovered I love dresses but hate my legs, so don't want to wear them without leggings... The only ones I have are winter dresses so look OK with them, but I'm worried about summer dresses looking 'off' with leggings...

help please?

Noddy love that pink dress!! I nearly always wear black and need to be a bit braver!

lurkingaround · 25/04/2015 14:27

Love the sandals on your last link noddy.

Have just read the thread. Hilarious.

Sorry OP, no suggestions, it's not a look I like either.

i was thinking \link{http://www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/new-in-this-week-2169932/new-in-this-week-493/dresses-3123078/petite-babydoll-applique-sundress-4337176?refinements=category~%5b208503%7c277012%5d&bi=1&ps=20\this might look nice} with leggins?

HappyGirlNow · 25/04/2015 15:18

Why not just wear trousers if you hate your legs so much? Confused

I just think a dress and leggings looks stupid, like you've for dressed twice accidentally Grin... Leggings and a top that just covers the bum looks ok IN MY OPINION and I suppose a very short dress could pass as a top but leggings with something that's obviously, by length, a dress looks odd and frumpy IN MY OPINION AND I'M ENTITLED TO MY OPINION Grin

Who are these 'fashion police' people are rabbiting on about anyway? Odd...

usualsuspect333 · 25/04/2015 15:22

She doesn't want to wear trousers.

Maybe you should go and find a trouser thread to post on and leave us frumps alone.

HappyGirlNow · 25/04/2015 15:23

Maybe Grin

Tunics I don't really like but longer dresses yes a la HC a few posts back

ParkingFred · 25/04/2015 15:34

Yes, but Noddy - all your links are to slim (probably tall) women and they all look great because of that.

It is a hard look to carry off for shorter/fatter types. Having said that, my sil is both short and fat and I think she makes the best of herself with stylish dresses and leggings. She can wear dresses that she wouldn't otherwise feel comfortable in.

I am completely in love with the wedged sandals! Where are they from?

noddyholder · 25/04/2015 15:43

I think if you keep it plain they look nice. I don't wear leggings with dresses I think its just not me! Would never wear a tunic ever but I see some people like the look and was just looking for examples. If its warm enough for a summer dress maybe its too warm for leggings?

stripytees · 25/04/2015 15:58

Many leggings add bulk to your legs with the seams and thicker fabric. Footless tights on the other hand can make your legs look slimmer and sleeker.

I like Noddy's photos; but I think a tea dress or similar wouldn't work with leggings very well.

I would wear this to work with leggings and a plain cardi with some wedges and beads.

Op there is a short dress/long tunic (?) in Next that would look good with navy leggings. Its a heavier waffle type material, one is plain navy and one is navy and white stripes.

I bought this last week and will wear it with black leggings and tan sandals. My leggings are more footless tights, I think they're 120 denier Falke ones. I'm neither "lumpy bumpy mum who's eaten too many biscuits" nor "very fat" (the dress is a size 10) but I wouldn't wear something this short with bare legs other than in the garden. Also, I think it depends where you live - I'm in Scotland and days for bare legs are few and far between. I'd never wear a summer dress if I waited for those!

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 25/04/2015 16:31

Just that dress is lovely, I would wear it with leggings too

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 25/04/2015 16:31

Judy not just - sorry!

being an hourglass shape i cant just wear trousers or jeans when its too cold for a dress by itself because i have never found trousers or jeans that fit properly or dont make my arse look bigger than id like to believe it is. I look shit in them. I wear tunics or dresses all year round and in the winter i wear them with leggings and a cardigan and in the summer i either wear them without or with short cropped leggings. I look fine the way i dress. Nice even. I get complimented pretty regularly, Plus i feel comfortable and confident in everything i wear

WilburIsSomePig · 25/04/2015 17:17

Happy well we all have different opinions of course and like I said I don't wear dresses anyway, but I think it's unkind to say that a look someone has said they like 'looks stupid' just because you don't like it. You could just say 'I don't like it'. But that's just MY opinion.

I wear dresses and legging all the time & I clicked on this thread hoping for lots of lovely dresses to look at. Thank you to everyone who has posted links.

I find some of the comments disgusting quite frankly. I can't believe that people can be so rude about people because of what clothes they like to wear. If dresses & leggings offend you so much then why click on the thread & read it??
