What summer dresses can I wear with leggings?

Things that don't look weird with them!

I just discovered I love dresses but hate my legs, so don't want to wear them without leggings... The only ones I have are winter dresses so look OK with them, but I'm worried about summer dresses looking 'off' with leggings...

help please?

Yes. Being an actual matron, it's a look I avoid.

Massive tangent alert

OnlyLovers hugoagogo Juicytots.co.uk and littlesunflowers.com are really good for Molo with free UK delivery - I believe little Sunflowers has a discount on everything right now and Juicytots has 15% off with a code but I can't recall what it is. They are v v expensive for kids clothes but I buy the leggings (for me) if on offer and have bought some kids bits in sale or second-hand and they last really well. Selfridges and ChildrenSalon stock it too but no free delivery. Oh Zalando too!

As for other items, if you are petite and small you might fit into 164 cm (age 14) or 152 stuff. I bought a vest in 146/152 and can fit into it but it is really too small, but I'm busty 12/14 at the moment. When not breastfeeding/with less weight on I should be less busty 10/12 which is what I'm aiming for and then it might fit better. Most of the 164 leggings I have are v comfy even as a size 14, but I did have an older range pair that were too tight.

Thanks Hopeful! I'm a flat as a pancake gamine size 6–8 so have high hopes for the vests and T-shirts fitting me.

I wear leggings a lot and get quite a few compliments, so what suits some doesnt others. I find peacocks does cute dresses to go with leggings. A shop near to where I live does really pretty dresses that would go with leggings too, I think its called Bibi's but they're more of a vintage type style.

Floisme · 29/04/2015 14:52

Ok this is kind of how these young Muslim women I saw on the bus were wearing leggings. Yeah they looked really frumpy Grin

And I love this - not sure if you can see but the leggings are patterned. Simple and classy.

You look great seb.
Peacocks have a denim dress in atm, its completely plain. My local shop has it paired with leggings and a grey cardigan the same length as the dress, it looks great.
I wear skightly full skirts with cropped leggings (well I did 2 stone ago) with Converse or Birkinstocks.
I have a straight black cotton dress which comes to just above my kness and I wear it with leggings and trainers.

People who wear leggings with trainers - what do you do for socks?

bigmouthstrikesagain · 29/04/2015 15:10

trainer socks hth

sebsmummy1 · 29/04/2015 15:20

Thank you guys.

I find it interesting that that Protein advert with the 'Are you beach ready' strap line has received so much negative publicity, yet if we refuse to spend our time fake tanning and exfoliating (and yes this is why I go for the leggings look) we are criticised. No one wants to see my pasty white legs in a dress and I refuse to faff about with fake tan as quite frankly I've got better things to do and I like having unstained sheets and smelling pleasant.

So if anyone wants to hate then let them hate.

GooodMythicalMorning · 29/04/2015 15:34

my feet dont look right in trainers when im wearing leggings too. I think cos they're size 9/10 they look weirdly long in trainers so if warm I wear flip flops if not its my knee high boots.

Floisme · 29/04/2015 15:39

I don't mind showing off my pasty legs - I think it can be quite a good look. I just refuse to do it until it's at least 20 degrees.

Runningupthathill82 · 29/04/2015 16:05

I certainly don't fake tan but that doesn't mean I have to wear leggings! Nothing wrong with pale legs.

Floisme · 29/04/2015 16:21

Pale legs on a warm, sunny day, yes!
Blue, blotchy legs because you're freezing your arse off, no thanks.

SinglePringle · 29/04/2015 17:09

I do fake tan and exfoliate. I don't smell, have stained sheets or look orange. There are ways and means!

I also still find time to do 'better' things.

sebsmummy1 · 29/04/2015 17:16

I just cannot be arsed. Hence why I wear leggings.

Smooshface · 29/04/2015 21:43

Wore dress and leggings yesterday, usually feel quite pretty and put together compared to usual jeans and tshirt, but this thread has kind of ruined that for me Hmm

Haha thanks Tiz!

Floisme · 30/04/2015 07:28

Wearing leggings with a smart dress today so you can all point and laugh Grin

I have to go to a meeting and look smart and like I know what I'm talking about but at the same time, not get taken for a business lawyer. (Apologies if that's your job but it wouldn't go down well at all.) It's a tricky balancing act.

So my dress is knee length, pencil shape, long sleeves, round neck in a kind of mauve. The leggings are grey and just stop it sliding into 'corporate'.
