Plus size chat thread anyone?

Been trying to get my confidence back, and trying to learn what clothes suit my figure, so would love to chat to others in the same boat.

Got a shopping trip planned for next week, to restock my wardrobe and give me a bit of a boost. Mostly going to be going for places like Primark and New Look (am a size 18/20 so just about stand a chance in there) and maybe Yours.

Can't afford too much unfortunately and so much plus size fashion is more expensive.

So how is everyone else? Get anything new lately? Looking at getting anything? What are your favourite items/looks right now?

Sorry 'trick', not 'struck'!

Harverina · 21/05/2015 20:12

Poly Grin thanks but already wore it!! The wedding was last weekend. The shrug was sparkly and went fine. I really struggled to find a decent shrug though but I felt nice in it in the end.

birkiekid · 22/05/2015 18:13

Haverina Glad you felt good in your outfit. Hope you enjoyed the wedding.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for an invitation to something soon to give me an excuse to buy a Little Mistress dress - not even sure which one yet but they have such a lovely selection.

polyhymnia · 22/05/2015 18:15

If you felt good that's all that matters! The dress certainly suited you. I know finding nice shrugs in the ideal colours is really hard, annoyingly.

Araisaris · 24/05/2015 23:06

I have a challenge for you. I'm going to a celebratory lunch in a very nice hotel and it'll probably go on into the evening so I need a dress to fulfil all that criteria. I'm size 18'it has to be a v-neck, with some kind of sleeve. I'd like to wear high heels so no maxis (or minis Grin). I'd prefer something without too much print, the plainer the fabric the better. Budget is £50-£100. Thanks all.

Libitina · 25/05/2015 16:26

Have you tried Monsoon Araisaris?

birkiekid · 25/05/2015 18:06

Do you like flowy or fitted?

blue

blue but look at the price!

Araisaris · 25/05/2015 19:46

Thanks Libitina I've ordered a couple from monsoon to try on at home.

Thanks birkie I need more sleeve than those two but will have a look around that site now.

Harverina · 25/05/2015 20:48

Chi chi have a couple of lovely dresses

polyhymnia · 25/05/2015 23:09

Not sure if I'm seeing right chi- Chi dress but red evening one looks way OTT for a lunch. Probably looking at wrong one .

Harverina · 25/05/2015 23:50

Nope right one but in my head I thought it was for a wedding eeeek!

So ignore me Wink

GrinAndTonic · 26/05/2015 00:08

I'm a UK size 16/18 and since moving back to Oz I do most of my clothes shopping online.
I buy a lot of items from UK sellers such as
Joules
Boden
Monsoon
Krisp
Damsel in a dress
New Look

However given our crappy exchange rate you might save quite a bit buying from here. Some plus size shoes are

BeMe
City Chic
Ts
Autograph

senrensareta · 26/05/2015 00:25

Grin I am opposite to you. I am size 22/24 and always whinging about lack of nice Plus size for 50ish women here. DD told me there was loads when she visited Sydney and I have now found Taking Shape, Ozzie company selling in UK. Some of it is a bit weird but I have had some lovely stuff

I'm now going to look up the others you mentioned

GrinAndTonic · 26/05/2015 00:51

www.stylishplus.com.au links to a lot of brands too

GrinAndTonic · 26/05/2015 00:53

Araisis I just bought this dress from damsel in a dress and I'm a size 18 with a 36H chest.

Plus size chat thread anyone?
Araisaris · 27/05/2015 13:28

That dress looks good but too wintery.

I've ordered a few dresses from asos and monsoon. I'll report back.

Araisaris · 27/05/2015 13:30

birkie my Kaliko dress still hasn't arrived Sad

birkiekid · 27/05/2015 14:25

That's strange Arais. Are you in Ireland (the name suggests you might be)?

I am and got mine over a week ago. Are you quite tall? If so it might suit you better than me and it could be perfect for the lunch.

malteserzz · 27/05/2015 17:02

My kaliko dress arrived a couple of days after I ordered it and I've already worn it out for dinner with black tights and shoe boots, felt really nice in it and had compliments :)

birkiekid · 27/05/2015 17:18

That's great malteserzz. I have the perfect shoe boots for it but need to get it altered before I wear it. Too much fabric on top for me, think it's because I am short and short bodied.

Araisaris · 27/05/2015 18:01

birkie I'm in the Channel Islands but you've guessed my origins Wink

I'll send them an email tonight.

dreamcometrue · 27/05/2015 20:42

Help please if possible.
I'm after summer trousers both for work and casual. I'm so desperate not to wear cropped jeans!
I'm size 22/24 bottoms and my idea was cigarette trousers for work and chinos that I can do a little roll up on for casual. I have quite a big belly and bum but smaller waist. (Aka pear shape :) ) any ideas?

Harverina · 29/05/2015 21:30

I have just bought the £20 chinos from next. I am an 18 usually but have gained almost a stone in 8 weeks through stress so ordered a 20 aswell as last years chinos were snug. However I have kept the 18's in navy. They are pretty generous though quite fitted on the leg.

My tummy is the issue but they feel comfy enough on my tummy. I would have liked a little more room in the leg but looking at other women recently, it seems that chinos are supposed to be more fitted?

Anyway they are maybe worth a go as they are quite smart so could be worn casual or to work

Pegaroo · 04/06/2015 18:14

plus sized bump - Hi I just wanted to share a really nice webshop that i have found. www.daisyinbloom.uk I have just brought the nautical dress, the turquoise tunic and the leggings. worth a look.

Dowser · 04/06/2015 21:19

I have a brand new long little mistress dress that I got in the sale for £20. It's too big. I got large so probably about a size 18 . Its cream, sleeveless with a decorated bodice.

I have a photo but don't know how to post.

If anyone thinks they would like it I'm happy to take £20 plus a couple of quid postage.
