Plus size chat thread anyone?

Been trying to get my confidence back, and trying to learn what clothes suit my figure, so would love to chat to others in the same boat.

Got a shopping trip planned for next week, to restock my wardrobe and give me a bit of a boost. Mostly going to be going for places like Primark and New Look (am a size 18/20 so just about stand a chance in there) and maybe Yours.

Can't afford too much unfortunately and so much plus size fashion is more expensive.

So how is everyone else? Get anything new lately? Looking at getting anything? What are your favourite items/looks right now?

IsIt Our local Sainsbury's is a bit rubbish in their Tu selection, I know there's some nice stuff, but they only ever seem to have stuff aimed at OAPs!

I have the same problem with buying plus size. I just can't afford some of the prices.

As for shoes, that's a whole other issue! I have size 2.5 feet! I hate shoe shopping, especially now I get chronic joint pain, it cuts down my options massively.

I love that there are other short plus sizers on this thread. I'm 5'2 and find that a lot of larger size clothes are aimed at tall people.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 12/04/2015 20:00

My legs are huge but it doesn't stop me wearing mini skirts with my leggings. I am so short anything longer tends to drown me. I need some cool jeans I can roll up and wear with wedges!
I do wear maxi dresses with wedges in the summer and feel good in them.

Itscurtainsforyou · 12/04/2015 20:05

One problem I find is that I prefer loose fitting clothes, but if I wear both loose top and trousers I look like I'm wearing pyjamas/a real scruff.

I refuse to wear skinny jeans/jeggings/leggings without long boots (parsnip legs), most trousers are baggy around my bum as I need to get them big enough to fit my huge stomach, so I have a load of loose tops that I can't wear Hmm

birkiekid · 12/04/2015 20:35

All my weight is round my middle. My arms/shoulders and legs are probably a 14 but I have no waist at all. I need short skirts too Nacho anything on the knee or longer is frumpy on me.

I have come to realise that it is all about getting the proportions right.

Right now I am looking for some non-clingy t-shirts. I think they are linen mix or something. Does anyone know where I could buy these at a reasonable price?

I'd like white and navy.

CurlsLDN · 12/04/2015 20:56

Hi everyone! Can I join? I'm 5'8, size 18 since having ds, 36gg boobs.

I recently bought some patterned trousers and I love them, these:
m.newlook.com/shop/womens/trousers/blue-mosaic-print-slim-fit-trousers_329833249
I wear them with a t-shirt or denim shirt and coral ballet shoes. They make me feel summery and fresh.

Also for skinny jeans I recommend river island amelie ones. I have the ones with ripped knees (amongst others) and I think they look pretty good with converse and a blazer, for eg

mayfridaycomequickly · 12/04/2015 21:12

I'm in!

I'm 5'2'' and a size 16. My belly is my biggest problem, I have a really horrible tyre style overhang which I struggle to hide!

craftysewer · 12/04/2015 22:17

I'm in too! I'm a size 20, 5'5" with a definite apple shape. I've just bought 2 pairs of these from Matalan: www.matalan.co.uk/womens/highlights/womens-new-arrivals/s2583266/wide-leg-trousers--30-inch-leg

I've bought the navy together with a navy long-line cardigan and intend to wear them with strappy tops or t-shirts.

qazxc · 12/04/2015 22:19

I'm a size 22, and my main problem is belly. I can't get jeans that fit round my belly but stay up/are not baggy around the arse. I'm constantly pulling them up and it drives me mad.

306235388 · 12/04/2015 22:37

Can I join? Think I'm the biggest of you all ....

I really don't think I look good but I need to start taking more time on my appearance and with my youngest starting school soon I will have a bit more me time and less time covered in mud / glue / paint!!

I hate my legs so leggings are out and I have to cover my arms but I don't mind my boobs and my face is ok mainly - my hair looks good when I make an effort! Have just got out of the habit.

I like wide legged patterned trousers but dd asked me why I was wearing jammies to the shops so I haven't worn them again!!!

cococandyfloss · 12/04/2015 23:00

Ooh loving this -will mark my place and come back and read properly when I get a sec. I am a size 18 at the mo after losing 2.5 stone and was a 22 before so am a bit lost in what to wear for summer. I usually wear dresses or relaxed slim fit jeans with peplum tops. Will have a look at some of these blogs.

pyjamaday · 12/04/2015 23:01

Hi ladies can I join you? I'm a size 20/22 and I too read a few plus size fashion blogs, one I really like is Mrs bebe www.mrsbebeblog.co.uk. I agree it really helps you to feel more positive about yourself seeing other women of a similar size looking good.

Jakadaal · 12/04/2015 23:09

another vote for Tu at Sainsburys. I have just bought 2 pairs of their girlfriend jeans in dark denim and just love, love, love them. Especially slightly turned up with a pair of converse or with Birkenstocks when I can bear to get my feet fully out!

I am 16 bottom and always find their jean sizing generous. Also love their straight leg jeans.

polyhymnia · 13/04/2015 00:14

Tethers have you actually seen those Simply Be flares please? I tend to avoid that retailer and similar such as Yours because the quality doesn't seem to be there and much is bright polyester.

I usually wear and like NYDJ jeans - think they are well worth the money- but they aren't doing flares yet alas.

Also wonder if the SB jeans would be long enough as I have long slimmish legs. But if you think they are good quality will give them a go.

bellacullen18981 · 13/04/2015 00:31

What are we thinking about harems? Are they flattering for a big bum and short legs? Would like some nice comfy bottoms to wear Smilex

ThatIsNachoCheese · 13/04/2015 01:03

birkiekid have you looked at H&M for non clingy t shirts? I have a black one that I love, although I did buy it in a size bigger just to be sure. I have spent my evening doing some online shopping on H&M but am going to have a look at TU jeans Jakadaal and wear them rolled up like you as I'm desperate to get some, I miss denim!

ThatIsNachoCheese · 13/04/2015 01:05

I've got some harem type trousers bella, unfortunately they're too small for me now but I think they looked good. I wish I could find some more in my size :-(

ThatIsNachoCheese · 13/04/2015 01:09

What do we think of these?

Simply be is by far the best plus size shop.
The clothes are gorgeous and very classy. It is a little on the expensive side but the clothes last for years.
The staff are lovely as well. Which does make all the difference especially when you're spending. Small fortune.
Now when I say expensive in my experience all the items are under £70.
However to saY it's expensive I bought a dress from there back in 2012 for £35 that still looks as good as new.
Evans is nice but can be a but hit and miss

tethersend · 13/04/2015 11:27

Polyhymnia, I completely agree, I normally avoid simply be et al for exactly the same reasons. However, I have a pair of those jeans; I'm a 16, sometimes an 18 in trousers, and thought I'd take a punt as the M&S ones I wanted were out of stock. They're really lovely, a great colour and a proper flare. Nice little seam detail up the back. The only thing I don't like about them is the elastic on the back of the waist, but it's easily covered with a belt.

Can't believe they haven't sold out, actually- probably because the picture is so shite Grin

polyhymnia · 13/04/2015 11:32

Thanks v much tethers. Would never have thought of looking there. Will definitely give them a go and hope they're long enough.

polyhymnia · 13/04/2015 11:36

nacho have you tried the harems at Next, who go up to 22? Had a pair last year and they were good for round the house or quick trip to supermarket etc.
