Plus size chat thread anyone?

Been trying to get my confidence back, and trying to learn what clothes suit my figure, so would love to chat to others in the same boat.

Got a shopping trip planned for next week, to restock my wardrobe and give me a bit of a boost. Mostly going to be going for places like Primark and New Look (am a size 18/20 so just about stand a chance in there) and maybe Yours.

Can't afford too much unfortunately and so much plus size fashion is more expensive.

So how is everyone else? Get anything new lately? Looking at getting anything? What are your favourite items/looks right now?

I'm 5'2 so you might be right about the ankle strap. I am hopeless with shoes. I have wide feet and can't walk in most heels so find my choices very limited.

Sorry for multiple posts. Using the app

What do you think of this? I tried it on today and quite like it but it was very big fitting and I didn't have time to try a smaller size. Thought I might get some of you lovely plus size fashionistas opinions before going back for another look.

I'm short so it is a knee length dress on me. Thinking of wearing it as a summer dress with black birkenstocks. Not my usual style though so am prepared to be talked out of it.

birkiekid it's lovely and you're lucky if you can wear it as a dress - looks like it will be nice and cool in summer Smile.

flightywoman · 11/05/2015 21:37

One of my dresses finally arrived and is utterly heavenly! It looks FAB and very swishy and puffy with my big net petticoat underneath.

The other one has had delivery date changed twice by the seller (ebay), and according to their feedback they've depatched other items since I paid for mine. And there've no replies to emails so I've told them that if I don't hear from them by tomorrow I am opening a dispute with ebay to get my money back. Shame as it's a gorgeous dress.

ION, I've got a £25 Debenhams gift card to spend. So I'm going to have a look and see what I might buy.

I am having a wobble about my dress for the wedding at the weekend Hmm

I think it's because

  1. It has thin straps
  1. It has a stretchy back

I have gained weight and feel shot into it. The bigger size is too big though. It's more to do with me feeling huge Hmm

Harverina · 12/05/2015 19:42

Btw I am weAring a shrug so that sorts both problems but I am not comfy in it Hmm

birkiekid · 12/05/2015 20:29

Post a pic Haverina. It is a fab dress, bet it is lovely on.

Harverina · 12/05/2015 21:27

Ok here it is

HermiioneSnape02 · 13/05/2015 07:07

Harverina, it looks lovely. Really lovely Flowers

birkiekid · 13/05/2015 08:02

It's lovely on you, it really is. Once you are all glammed up and ready to go you will feel great.

Harverina · 13/05/2015 10:04

Thanks. I just wish I was 10lbs lighter and a bit more comfy in it.

I have another wedding in June so that will be my aim for then!!

Araisaris · 13/05/2015 13:37

It's really lovely on you. Think I'll go and have another look at it for myself!

I bought this dress (one of many) that's very flattering - though I wore a light cardi with it for work as I don't like my arms on show.

Araisaris · 13/05/2015 13:38

Oops - here's the link

birkiekid · 14/05/2015 14:36

araisaris and malteserzz did either of you get the Kaliko grey dress yet? I'm not in UK so delivery takes longer and I am getting impatient.

IKnowRight · 14/05/2015 14:50

How have I not seen this thread before?

I have had a couple of nice dresses from Asda of all places

I wish I had better legs. Some plus size women have fabulous legs and look great in skirts and dresses, I have chunky knees and cankles which don't go away even when I lose weight

Some great links here :)

Harverina · 14/05/2015 17:11

Iknow my legs are my saving grace. They have a good shape though are heavy just now, they don't get as fat as the rest of me!!

birkiekid · 18/05/2015 20:05

Did anyone buy anything nice at the weekend?

I am becoming frustrated with the changeable weather.

Wore 7/8 jeans and my Superga trainers today and my ankles were freezing.

I keep thinking it's summer.

flightywoman · 18/05/2015 20:47

My eBay dress never arrived but has been refunded without any problems. So I've bought something else - another Lindy Bop dress! And have a despatch email so it should be here for the weekend.

I also bought a little off-white shrug from Debenhams - it's soft and rather pretty and will go with lots of things.

And today I made myself a full circle skirt in a polka dot fabric, with a wide elastic waistband. It looks fab with the petticoat underneath it!

It's payday tomorrow and I think I might have a quick mooch while daughter is at Brownies - I want a wide-stripe top.

LadyB49 · 19/05/2015 00:04

Got a gorgeous Fossil ivory leather messenger bag for summer. £30 off eBay as new. Love it.

Wannabechic1 · 19/05/2015 00:50

Have to recommend this blog girlwithcurves.com/tagged/outfit+inspiration/page/2

She is usually fantastically turned out, even during her pregnancy and always seems to find the high-street gems.

I´m a size 16 on the bottom except I can never get the button closed on pants and an 18 on top. Gap/Banana republic black pants and Gap A-line maternity merino sweaters have seen me through the winter/early spring.
I desperately need summer blouses and maybe a dress or two, oh and a spring coat or nice flowy blazer.

Has anyone had any luck with Mango curve sizes?

Araisaris · 19/05/2015 18:27

birkie my Kaliko dress hasn't arrived yet either. I'm not on mainland either so expected a small delay but not this much.

birkiekid · 19/05/2015 18:48

arais Mine came! Love the colour and it is nice quality but way too much fabric on top for me. I like it though and I'm going to take it to a dress maker and see if it can be altered.

I think it would work better on a taller person. I'm 5'2 and short bodied.

polyhymnia · 19/05/2015 18:54

Haverina I'm not a pink fan myself - specially in big flowers - but that's just personal and the shape of the dress really looks good on your figure.

Not sure if the shrug is sparkly - if so, think it's a bit OTT with statement necklace and big print and dress would look even better on you with either the necklace or the shrug toned down ( ie more subtle necklace or less sparkly shrug). But it may be just struck of the light in the pic.

Like that Old Navy dress, for more casual occasions.
