Hey, another new thread; we're a very chatty bunch!

Glad you are feeling better Queen. Packing is such a chore. Have fun whereever you are going. Like the shoes but what a pia to put on and take off!!

Sleep a skiing trip with 23 of you sounds fab. Enjoy.

Lib loving your haul yesterday. It's a shame you are having to return the vince blouse but no point keeping something unless you love it and can make it work for you.

Mara gorgeous Hermes scarf, love that shade of grey.

Shop and Novice, hope you are both feeling more human now and you managed the pitch without a hitch Novice! Hope you're ok too Dry.

Ujjayi checked out your blog - very stylish. Lovely photo of you too.

santamarianovella · 13/02/2015 17:07

lib I love your stuff! Specially the stripy Breton top,and if you feel you won't get much use of the Vincent shirt, then return it,

shop I wear the MIH kick flares with my shrunken chanel cardi jacket and black heels, and it looks good, also tried my chloe jacket ,looked good too, can't wait to see you in them ,you will look great I'm sure,

ujj my biggest fashion faux pas would have to be a splendid tube skirt I wore as a dress, it looked fine at home, but when I went out it was so flimsy in dayLight you could see everything, dh told that he could read the label of the thong I'm wearing Blush Blush , plus whenever I lifted my hand the top would slip, Blush,

karbea I am wearing grey Wink, grey scarf I think the shade is "fluf of a baby penguin.

Cindy still looks great, kudos for not photoshopping,

shopafrolic · 13/02/2015 17:58

All credit to Cindy for what she's doing - and she looks awesome doing it.

blair I forgot she had the aquazzura flats as I rarely check her blog anymore because she annoys me.

No grey for me today. Chinese blue and navy instead.

Cindy? I'm not entirely sure what I think. On one hand I absolutely admire her for doing it and it actually makes me feel better that she looks like that as actually she looks no different to me. but on the other hand I'm not sure I want to be looking at it as I can look at myself in the mirror and I don't find it an attractive sight. I realise it's the most unfeminist thing to say though and if any feminists are reading please don't flame me as you scare me

libertychick · 13/02/2015 18:55

Yes Cindy looks great. Good for her.

Thanks for all the lovely feedback about my new clothes Smile. I think I said ages ago that i should stop online shopping and go to real shops and I think it definitely works better. It's hard to judge colours properly on screen. Plus I had a list (work skirt, work jacket, cream blouse, scarf in a ** colour and had pre scouted online so knew which shops I wanted to check out etc) so that helped a lot.

Do you remember I linked this Weekend Maxmara dress a few days ago saying i wished it was available in autumn colours? I saw it in John Lewis and it is spring / autumn I think, beige background and some of the blues are very dark and there is forest green in there too so I tried it on. It was terrible on me! The waist was too high and the skirt flared out rather than flowing IYKWIM which made me look really big. So I had it all wrong but i'm glad I tried it.

BTW Linus I went to JL to see if they had the WM skirt you linked for me from Matches but it wasn't there and now I have spent enough!

No grey for me today (or ever again). There is only one grey in my little book of colours, lizard grey Confused.

libertychick · 13/02/2015 19:03

Ahem, I am a feminist QueenC but I won't flame you! I mentioned the other night that I was watching a Sky Arts programme about Charlotte Rampling. She was so interesting talking about beauty and how it changes with age. She came across as being very at ease with herself and that in itself is beautiful. She said what makes people beautiful is the spark in their eyes and it's hard to capture that in a photo. Plus we are so used to seeing 'perfection' in advertising that anything outside of a very narrow definition of beauty seems wrong. I imagine that Cindy would light up a room IRL and attract more attention than many of the more obviously 'perfect' models probably couldn't do.

The other thing that CR said that has stayed with me was something like 'Aging happens, every day that passes we age. if you accept it, you make that day a bit easier to bear' I haven't quoted that exactly right I am sure

libertychick · 13/02/2015 19:05

Some of my sentences above are totally mangled but I am trying to post and supervise bathtime!!!

QueenCardigan · 13/02/2015 19:12

I hope I didn't cause any offence with my comments. The problem is with how I view myself rather than how I view Cindy. I just absolutely loathe my post baby crepey wobbly stomach and was surprised that Cindys looks similar to mine. Its not even to do with aging or used to seeing perfection. If she'd had a swimming costume on then I'd be thinking she looks wonderful. I guess I just prefer to see airbrushed stomachs to avoid being reminded of my own hideousness. Does that make sense?

Fedupnagging · 13/02/2015 19:13

Good for Claudia, she still looks fantastic.

Youngsters need to see more 'real bodies & faces'. This is what having children and getting older can do to our bodies. Irl we don't have an airbrush following us around and neither can the majority of us afford constant plastic surgery/liposuction etc.

I have told my ds's and nieces constantly that real women do not look like most of those portrayed in music videos magazines etc.

QueenCardigan · 13/02/2015 19:16

And I do agree with you about Charlotte Ramplings comments. It is a certain something/spark about someone that makes them beautiful whatever size or shape they are. Beauty comes from within. And I absolutely don't agree with trying to halt the aging process.

Fedupnagging · 13/02/2015 19:21

But Queen doesn't it make you feel worse to keep seeing 'perfect' bodies every where you look in the media?

Like you, I am really self conscious of my stomach - hate it in fact, so to see someone else's figure is not perfect, reassures me somehow.

QueenCardigan · 13/02/2015 19:31

fedup it reassures me but I still don't want to be seeing it iyswim. I agree that there should be less airbrushing and more real bodies in the media but I just don't find wrinkly stomachs attractive. But as I've said that's my problem with myself sadly. I can live with all the aspects of aging and have no worries about getting old but when it comes to my stomach that's bore 3 beautiful do I'm irrational!

Karbea · 13/02/2015 19:38

I agree I dont know how I feel about it. I really don't want to see her bits and pieces, but then I don't want to see anyone in undies unless I'm looking at buying new undies. I really don't get why any women feel like they need to get their kit off all of the time. I also agree that if I have to see it I'd rather see a young pert body, but this is how I feel about men as well. Seeing her older body doesn't make me feel any better or worse about mine, the fact she has cellulite has nothing to do with whether I do or not.

libertychick · 13/02/2015 19:54

I wasn't offended QueenC. Like fedup I find it reassuring to see real bodies. As I have said before I get quite bothered about my hooded eyes and have thought quite seriously about getting them fixed. Seeing Charlotte R's eyes was a revelation for me. Her eyes a v v hooded and if you just looked at her eyes, in isolation, they looked bad. But when you look at her whole face especially when she smiled they became irrelevant as her face in total is beautiful and is very expressive. It really made me realise that it's the whole that counts and that the sum of what makes beauty is a total package of internal and external features.

Drywhiteplease · 13/02/2015 20:08

Well.........first of all I'd like to point out that I'm 5hrs into my ILs 5day visit, you may detect a change in tone over the next few days, for which I apologise in advance, and please forgive any swearing Grin
Secondly TCP and an early night ....and I'm good to go.

Now, Cindy.......the thing is, I think we are not used to seeing real bodies anymore. And cosmetic surgery is so mainstream, as are super white teeth btw. When you think "super model" you think "perfection". If I told you I were about to appear on Vogue front cover in a black bikini with strange hat and feather cape you'd probably fully expect a few I said A FEW only imperfections, but with models it's different and it's also escapism sadly.

Because we never see real bodies in the media apart from a few token larger/older women who happen to have the luxury of stylists etc we are shocked when we do. It's sad. It as also tragic that super high achieving, intelligent women of a certain age feel the pressure to look a certain way.

The other point, hang on what was it?.......ah yes, is that I hate it when people expect women who have had children to have terrible bodies. I have a gym instructor who has the most incredible body "and she's got 4 kids" Shock the younger woman said to me "well it gives me hope". I told her I had 6 Grin.

Finally, if you saw Cindy on a beach in her bikini you would think what an amazingly beautiful woman, perhaps it's because she's in a magazine that we think otherwise.

Phew ....heavy stuff. What are you all wearing?Grin

GeorginaWorsley · 13/02/2015 20:09

Some of the most beautiful older women are those that don't deny their age, imo.
I love looking at the Pinterest boards of the 'ageless style 'type.

Re the flares mentioned further up, am not sure!!
I may buy a pair I've seen in Marks that have been well reviewed in blogs etc and wear in summer with wedges, but I only wear jeans in summer if it's raining or damp and flares will get a bit wetGrin
Although I do like white jeans on other days but not sure re white flares Grin

MarshaBrady · 13/02/2015 20:14

True on white flares!

Now Cindy. I have thought about it and whilst I think good one for ditching the photoshopping overload, and some pics are silly, I'm not sure I actually like the shot. It's almost high definition heightened by the sharp lighting, which make me not keen. Does it make her look more 'real' than rl I wonder.

Also deep.

libertychick · 13/02/2015 20:21

It is a harsh picture Marsha.

We are all here for you dry. Feel free to come on here and swear as needed.

Since you ask I am wearing my new red and cream Breton with beige biker style cardi, navy chinos and Clark's Yarra boots. V happy with it all Smile

MarshaBrady · 13/02/2015 20:22

makes me. Gosh talking about it renders me illiterate too! What is it Grin

The photoshop ones that make the people look nothing like themselves annoy me, but I like the middle ground. Lovely shots, but not sharp.

Drywhiteplease · 13/02/2015 20:24

Nice outfit liberty

MarshaBrady · 13/02/2015 20:26

Lib I agree about the whole picture rather than focussing on one area. And a glass of bubbles and a laugh with friends, people are naturally more lovely in entirety.

sleepwhenidie · 13/02/2015 20:26

So.... The ski trip isn't exactly going to plan so far Sad. We are currently in a recovery truck (second one) returning home with poorly car on the back. Engine developed some kind of fault ten miles away from Eurotunnel, so we met roadside assistance there and have been told to take car to garage. Nightmare. But-it could have happened in the middle of rural France (major nightmare) or been an accident instead (not even thinking about that one). Looks like what was going to be a reasonably priced (ie expensive but not crazy) ski holiday is going to hit a different level. Need to assess options when we get back, car hire, flights or train...

The Cindy thing I think is fabulous Shock for everyone I'm sure...and I think it shows her character. I suspect many women of her age who have made a living out of being beautiful would be horrified at the idea of revealing the reality of their older bodies. I think it could be so powerful just by making us stop and look at all the perfect pictures we usually see and really question if they look like that in RL, on a rational level we would say 'of course everything's photoshopped' but in practice I don't think our minds process it that way, we just accept it as normal and possibly attainable when for 99% of us, it just isn't. She still looks amazing, but real, I think we need more of that!

shopafrolic · 13/02/2015 20:27

I'm definitely more lovely in my entirety Grin
