Has anyone been on summer hols to Norfolk? Can you recommend nice areas, biking, camping Shock ...........

QueenCardigan · 02/02/2015 16:37

Thanks santa

Figleaves has 20% off full priced stuff. Just ordered £234 worth of bras and bikinis to try.

QueenCardigan · 02/02/2015 16:38

Love Norfolk dry but haven't holidayed there for years. When we did it was up on the coast near Brancaster.

shopafrolic · 02/02/2015 16:42

Dry PM me what you need - hubby is from Norfolk and all his family are still there. Area around North Norfolk coast (Blakeney and Cley) is to die for but send me an email and I'll get "the family" on it Grin

bettykt · 02/02/2015 16:52

I love Norfolk too, I love Holt and Burnham Market but have never stayed there, just visited. The North Norfolk coast is beautiful. I'm always hearing good things about:

The Hoste and

Byfords but I think they are more for short stays/weekend breaks rather than family holidays.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 02/02/2015 19:07

Hi all, thanks for the continuing honeymoon chat! I think we might be swayed by the food and wine to just go to Italy, we are huge foodies and it's one of the most important things.

Can't contribute to paint discussion, we had our house decorated before we moved in and I have no idea what brand of magnolia they used Blush Tbh it suits our house I think...

Thanks for the figleaves tip QueenC!

Ujjayi · 02/02/2015 20:58

Stokey we stayed in a small villa for 4 but it was in a set of 3 which were set up for families to holiday together & have their own space. They are lovely - very quiet & chic - & the owners are wonderful & welcoming without being overbearing. Only cons are there isn't a "view" as such but the gardens etc are just lovely. I would return with the DCs in a heartbeat & tbh I am a holiday snob Blush. I will find the link.

Decorating wise, I'm a big fan of Dulux trade paint mixed to whatever colour you need. Great coverage & washable. I buy from a place called Brewers - I think they may be a trade chain. Agree that Laura Ashley is shocking quality & F&B is good eventually but tricky. As for feature walls - I think decor is as personal as clothes: There is "fashion" & then there is style. Go with what you love & that reflects who you are.

Marsha Grin I totally get that Princess & the Pea feeling. I get that when I've rushed a piece that I've made for myself & whilst it looks great on the outside it's not as neat a finish on the inside. Nobody else knows but I feel twitchy as hell Grin

I've spent today writing a talk for a group of fashion students for tomorrow. I feel sick...trial by moody, judgy teenagers Shock. No idea what to wear, altho erring on the side of casual - maybe khaki ankle skimmers & black jumper with a jacket...keep thinking of those Chanel jacket links I posted last week.

Oh & my "& Other Stories" order arrived. Merino tights are lovely as is the body spray (that I slung in the basket as it was reduced to £4). But the black slouchy jumper is going back. It looks worn already - bobbled & just a bit grubby-looking. Shame as it is a great fit Confused

Blair just popping in to give you another idea for Italy, Florence. A nice size for wandering round on foot without getting the fatigue of a big city break. Gorgeous countryside just outside and beautiful places like Fiesole nearby that you can go to easily by bus if you didn't want to rent a car. Can give you plenty of bar & restaurant recommendations for there and Rome Smile.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 02/02/2015 21:13

mara we have done Florence and Rome! We did Rome for DP's 30th in 2011 and Florence/Pisa 2 summers ago with my family. We really love Italy :) Agree that Florence is more relaxed - we were non stop in Rome and had a fantastic time but it was tiring.

Sorry can't remember who mentioned Venice - we had almost decided on it until recently, but we think we want to go somewhere where we can lounge by a pool, which I don't think is going to happen in the centre of Venice where we'd want to be.

santamarianovella · 02/02/2015 21:19

blair hmm, tricky, you might need to do a tour of Italy to sample the food Wink, emilia Romagna regin is the foodie place to go, but the best antipasti I've ever had was at a restaurant in Sardinia, man O man I've never eaten anything like that, And I've eaten at a lot of authentic resturants and homemade food in a lot of Italian regions, great home made pasta too.

oh! they had a bitter dark chocolate tart, that to this day I've never had anything close to resembling it,
I'm really hungry now!

Ujjayi · 02/02/2015 21:21

Stokey here's the link to the Kefalonia villas http://inotropescephalonia.gr/inotropes-homes/hay-house/hay-indoors/ here

Blair - I suggested Venice. There is apparently a beach there called The Lido. We visited in January/February so wasn't on our To Do list Grin. Might be worth looking for hotels with pools too? Just thinking about Venice fills me with joy. An amazing place.

shopafrolic · 02/02/2015 21:26

Something very different if you're foodies

Karbea · 02/02/2015 21:29

blair I mentioned Venice! it was part of my first honeymoon. Siena is really pretty too.
Umbria is nice, but very italian IMO in fact when dh and I went there we didn't speak to anyone who, spoke English very well at all. Example "where is the nearest cashpoint?", "oh yes, it's 3:30"...

Karbea · 02/02/2015 21:32

I stayed here in Venice.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 02/02/2015 21:46

shop nice thought but DP is the chef in our house, I don't like cooking at all! :)

santa mmm sounds amazing!

I think the problem with Venice is that we would rather go there when we are ready to properly explore and make the most of it. It's definitely on the to do list and that hotel looks lovely. But when we go there we'd want to see everything and do everything, and that's not the plan for this hol. Though it would be very romantic...

BrandyAlexander · 02/02/2015 22:00

Blair if you go to Venice and stay on The Lido then we stayed at the Excelsior. In the main bit we stayed in
Grand Hotel Wien.

Topazandpearl · 02/02/2015 22:15

We stayed here in Venice. It was lovely.

Drywhiteplease · 02/02/2015 22:24

Stayed in Venice for my 40th/10 wedding anniversary. Can't remember the hotel, apart from the fact that we had a huge red antique four poster and loads of classical portraits in the room, totally spooked me out Sad

Ujjayi · 02/02/2015 22:37

So excited that it is snowing here at last! Sitting here by candlelight & a glass of prosecco. I am stupidly romantic about this kind of weather Smile

Blair I completely understand what you mean about wanting to relax. But it is incredibly romantic. It rained for our entire visit & we still found it impossibly beautiful. We stayed here .

Drywhiteplease · 02/02/2015 22:45

Can you tell me are NB trainers with skinnies still in this spring/summer?

maradesbois · 02/02/2015 23:18

I love Venice, have been several times biut only once with dh who kept calling it Disneyland and was a complete pita! We stayed at the Bauer which I think has to be the only eastern bloc-style architecture in the whole of the city. It is such a tourist trap though which you have to accept if you're going to enjoy it but dh just couldn't get over it, particularly the restaurants being such a rip off. It was winter but not carnival time so pretty deserted. An eerie, misty ambiance not dissimilar to 'Don't Look Now'. I love that film.

Ujjayi prosecco by candlelight sounds wonderful.

shopafrolic · 03/02/2015 07:10

Dry I think NB are getting a bit dated (plus I saw KatieP wearing them on CBB which put me off!). I want some Adidas Superstars this year.
Morning All! A little snow here - enough to cover the garden and make me giddy :)

Drywhiteplease · 03/02/2015 07:48

Great, thanks Shop I'll stick with what I have then!

shopafrolic · 03/02/2015 08:08

Don't get me wrong Dry i'll use up the ones i've got but i won't buy more.....
Amber i enjoyed your blog. As a Winter do you view leopard print as a neutral then?

shopafrolic · 03/02/2015 08:26

Who's going to do flares Voguettes? I am considering some black ones Hmm
