I love a polo neck Remus and have works Grin. Haven't seen the Hobbs one but love the stripes
QueenC Vicks on feet really does work. No idea why, but it does.
Won't try that skirt - it is perfect for MrsR though so hope she sees this....

LinusDKD · 02/02/2015 09:50

My final post before I actually do some stuff this morning - does anyone else find their socks always fall down / off when they wear Pistols? Hmm

Quick decorating questions....
Is farrow and ball paint any good? I'm a big fan of dulux as seems hard wearing/wipeable
Does anyone have a feature wall? Or is that the height of naffness nowadays.

Kill me now. This must be the 10th time ive had the endure Frozen this weekend.

shopafrolic · 02/02/2015 11:54

The only thing I know about Farrow & Ball is that my decorator says it's difficult to work with and often needs more coats for a perfect finish. We use Dulux wipe clean paint in this house ATM to avoid sticky finger marks everywhere. I've never actually used F&B though so others on here my say differently.
We don't have feature walls as such. But in some rooms I have papered two out of the four walls depending on the shape of the room and the effect I want to create.
I did do the office with only one wall of paper but the opposite wall has fitted wardrobes and for various reasons I couldn't paper the rest....

BrandyAlexander · 02/02/2015 12:01

Hi QueenC, poor you and dcs. Thanks Dh is not a fan of Farrow & Ball as he says it's hard to get on and not very durable. He did both our nurseries in F&B. I thought they looked lovely.Grin We have mostly used Dulux in our home, plus Little Greene (which is v good) and Laura Ashley which our decorator says is painful.

We have done feature walls in some of the bedrooms, but using wallpaper. Those are really big bedrooms so it didn't feel to us like the feature wall was imposing. The rooms we have done them in are bigger than your normal sized double bedrooms. We haven't done it in a couple of the guest rooms which are your typical double bedrooms. I think it's a personal taste thing though as 2 of my sibs have feature walls using paint in double sized rooms and those are lovely. I thought feature walls were very 1990s but I am glad our interior designer persuaded me to consider it.

Not sure if that waffle helped!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/02/2015 12:02

I'd probably go for the plain black one, rather than the striped one, although the striped one might be nice layered under a jersey dress or a three quarter sleeved jumper.

QueenCardigan · 02/02/2015 12:05

Snap shop. I use that dulux too!

MarshaBrady · 02/02/2015 12:13

We've got F&B everywhere and really like, we do use the modern emulsion in places like the kitchen where it's better for wiping.

Stokey · 02/02/2015 12:47

Johnstones will colour match F&B for you QueenC. I tried both and couldn't see the difference in colour and our decorator preferred the Johnston's consistency.

Ujj did you stay in a big villa in Kefalonia? We're looking for a 4 bed for 2 families to share ( anywhere in southern Europe really!).

MarshaBrady · 02/02/2015 12:56

I must admit the decorator wasn't happy or keen either, but we didn't budge. We did say we're using it so let us know if you don't want to do the job. Oh and he ended up tipping over a huge tin of paint, after I found him drinking Pinot Grigio in the bedroom at 10am, using it wasn't that bad Wink

But I did feel like saying, hey that's liquid gold there mate.

QueenCardigan · 02/02/2015 13:42

I tried a Laura Ashley tester pot once and realised how awful it was. Thanks for all the replies. Think I'll stick to dulux as I'm used to it. Will also buy some coloured testers or maybe just a shade or two darker for one of the walls.

Just done a huge next order mainly for the dc but popped a couple of their cotton sun tops in for me. The stuff for dc is mainly swimwear stuff as I know if I leave it till the summer everything will be sold out. I like them to wear rash vests to protect their shoulders if they're in the pool all day.

Now pondering whether to order myself a bikini from bravissimo as I'm about to do a bra order.

santamarianovella · 02/02/2015 14:06

I love using/working with F&B ,its expensive, and hard to work with, and you end up using a lot of it, but I find there is no better alternative , I used fired earth a couple of times, but didnt like the finish, and ended up using F&B instead,

Regarding feature wall, that is something entirely dependent on what you will use, some wallpapers/paint choice makes me shudder, but others are beautiful, and I like them in smaller rooms like bedrooms ,powder rooms, study etc, but really loathe them in living rooms, dining rooms, even big bedrooms, and I think they look horrible if you use bold strong colours .
I'm about to do both dcs rooms, and I have loads of wallpaper samples, and can't decide what to go with,

justasecond · 02/02/2015 14:15

I really like Little Greene Paint Queenc I think the quality is better than F&B. They have some really lovely colours, I have french grey dark on my kitchen cabinets.

QueenCardigan · 02/02/2015 14:17

Ok, that's put me off santa! In our old house we had a feature wall and I remember loving it when I painted over it when we put the house on the market. This is a big room though and I don't want it to look bland. I might post you some pics for your expert advice at some point santa!

bettykt · 02/02/2015 14:26

We are currently decorating a room using F&B, I eally like it and have used it in every room bar one where we got a colour match from Dulux cheapskate I must say the depth of colour is better with F&B and that is why we've gone back to it although will probably colour match with Dulux for the hallway and landing as it's a big area and will need a 2nd mortgage for F&B Grin no feature wall for us though.

Loving the Greek Isles talk, Hydra is loving but not much to do apart from lazing around and maybe island hop.

Karbea · 02/02/2015 14:39

I've got f&b in our house, it looks rubbish till the third coat generally, but then it looks nice. The last few rooms we've used modern emulsion as I have to wipe my walls (dogs).
Can't believe it's 2 o'clock!!!!

santamarianovella · 02/02/2015 16:06

queen Don't be put off! And yes please ask anytime, and post pics, would be more than happy to help.
It really depends on what you prefer, and I think before starting with anything just have a thorough look at the room, does it have nice features? High windows?ceiling ! what type of flooring, what type of lightning, built in shelves ..etc , its all those details that make the room, and can give it depth , some rooms really need very little intervention, and other need a whole lot,
you can use a nice wallpaper with subtle pattern, and it will look tasteful, but I sometimes think that some rooms don't need wallpaper as a feature or strong paint, you end up disguising its beauty. Nothing is worse than using a bright strong colour, cause when you enter it's like a shock to the system!

, there is no set rule that we all can fallow ,cause houses differ, and sometimes its all just trial and error till you find the right shade for you,

maradesbois · 02/02/2015 16:18

Grin at Marsha 'surprising' the decorator.

Loads of F&B in our house, all in heritage matte finish, no feature walls but in living room we just papered the area between picture rail and dado rail as it's a bold print which may have been overwhelming otherwise. The only 'copy' F&B we have is johnstones floor paint in one room which is crap basically. The decorator did it as he was in a rush but a false economy as bits of it flake off whenever anyone walks on it in heels.

maradesbois · 02/02/2015 16:22

Also second Novice and justa re Little Greene having lovely colours but have never actually used them.

MarshaBrady · 02/02/2015 16:27

The ceiling was so expensive in the living room with all coats F&B, so we did the first coat in a copy colour then over the top with F&B Wimborne White in some other rooms. I felt all funny about it in a princess pea way, and twitchy.

I do love their paint though, especially the eggshell for wood work.

Drywhiteplease · 02/02/2015 16:29

QueenC I'm scared of bold colour there's a surprise adore F and B colours but always copy. Love Dulux because you can wash it. I love a feature wall, have done a few in varying sized rooms but I'm not one for big and bold. My new bedroom has one, Dulux Dusted Damson kind of heather colour and rest of walls are an oatmeal colour. Big wall, v high vaulted ceiling, way out of my comfort zone but love it .

MarshaBrady · 02/02/2015 16:29

Meant to say Sleep great to see you back, stay!

Remus you too

Novice hope you are feeling better.
