Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

If not, lets take it up here :)

oooh canny Misia sounds interesting! How did you get your hands on a decant >jealous< :)

shins · 30/03/2015 00:10

I tried Misia too Canny- first impression was "Lipstick Rose"! - but it dried down into something much more wearable for me.LR has a synthetic feeling I don't like. Misia is lovely but not for me.

shins · 30/03/2015 00:11

Wilting, I tried to get a sample in BT and they were out but they'll have them back in!

wiltingfast · 02/04/2015 17:06

Will have to keep an eye on BTs so ??

canny1234 · 02/04/2015 20:14

Wilting I took part in a split on Fragantica.I'm really pretty surprised I like it as Chanel's are normally not my thing .I'm enjoying the cool restraint of the Violet/Rose tempered with Iris.
I seem to be amassing samples at the moment.I ordered 3 Malle samples after the website perfume quiz ( arrived within 24 hours - 3×3.5 mls for 17 Euros).2 sets of Montale perfumes for 20 Euros from Europerfumes.Plus samples from D'orsay including the Linden scent. If anyone wants around 13 Montale samples of flowers and ouds - tell me.Unfortunately they sent me the oud package instead of the Woods and Musks.

MissBattleaxe · 02/04/2015 21:29

I feel stupid because I don't know what BTs is!

GatoradeMeBitch · 02/04/2015 22:41

Miss Dior. It's nothing like it was. It's lost that earthy kick it used to have.

Just browsing the thread, I know next to nothing about perfumes, but yes! Miss Dior used to be my favourite perfume, I bought a small bottle of the EDT recently and it has lost what made me love it Sad

I'm actually feeling quite soulless as far as perfume goes. The last one I kind of liked was SJP's Covet, it smells quite warm and cosy and it was nice for winter. Nothing is grabbing me, and I have no strong opinions, except that in general I hate white florals (there are exceptions but I hate Fracas and Fracas-dupes.) I like Flowerbomb, but I also feel like I could easily do a 180 and dislike it! I used to love Guerlain and Caron scents but I heard they have also changed a lot of compositions?

shins · 03/04/2015 11:05

Missbattleaxe it's Brown Thomas, a posh department store in Dublin. I go there to cadge samples and even buy something occasionally!Smile

shins · 03/04/2015 11:12

Canny where did you get the Malle samples? Smile

canny1234 · 03/04/2015 12:05

Do the 'find your signature' questionnaire on the Malle website and sent it off.You should receive a response recommending 3 perfumes. You can then phone up the shops and request samples or send an email to VictorHugo and pay using PayPal.Malle charge 17 Euros for postage and packaging ( 24 hour express postage).

shins · 03/04/2015 15:51

Ooh thanks! Did the questionnaire and sent it off but didn't get an email, do they reply soon after?

shins · 03/04/2015 16:20

Scratch that, just got reply! Iris Poudre, French Lover and Une Fleur de Cassie. Already have UFDC but the samples sound like good value for their size so will order.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/04/2015 18:43

For me they suggested parfum de Therese, oir epices and musc ravageur. I think I will order the samples.

thecatfromjapan · 03/04/2015 19:06

SirVix, those are three of my favourites - though I love an awful lot of the FM line.
I've had a bittersweet week: I've been wearing 'LeCologne', 'La Fleur' and 'La Poudre' from the discontinued Lyn Harris for Marks and Spencer line.
They are lovely. Really good. 'Le Cologne' is bright citrus with a hefty, earthy kick at the base; 'la Fleur' is green and intense, with a high, singing floral note, and 'La Poudre' is soft and beautiful.
Why, why, why were they discontinued?

thecatfromjapan · 03/04/2015 19:13

Hold on, it was 'la rose' I was wearing. :-) I'm getting my fleurs and roses mixrd up.
Still, I think my main point is that it is mystifying that these disappeared from the shelves of M and S before most people had even heard of them.
They really are gorgeous, high quality, fascinating scents.

shins · 03/04/2015 20:39

I've been emailing and they said I can actually pick any samples. I love most of them so I'll see..

wiltingfast · 05/04/2015 21:42

Totally agree catfromjapan. Have several from the line, they were incredible value by the end. They didn't give them can't kind of chance.

canny is there a split section on fragrantica? Haven't really explored the forums there at all.

OP posts:
wiltingfast · 05/04/2015 21:43

ANY! Any kind of chance Blush

FrugalFashionista · 17/04/2015 09:17

Anyone still around?

Have been unadventurous with perfume (Chanel 5 - AA Figue Iris - Vega - 1932) but right now it's colder and I am enjoying Le Labo Santal 33. Smells outdoorsy and unisex - someone on Fragrantica says it has a music festival vibe. I smell saw dust and dill too. Would love to wear something fringed with this. I'd definitely wear this to Coachella Wink

What is your SOTD?

OneLittleLady · 17/04/2015 09:29

SOTD is OEillit Savauge which i picked up really cheaply in TKmaxx as it's boxed but has no lid. It's really rather lovely, fresh but floral, powdery yet not old fashioned. i can really smell the pink pepper in it and the carnations

niminypiminy · 17/04/2015 11:03

SOTD is Tauer Une Rose Chypree. What a mysterious scent this is! It starts out as a wild rose, and then it smells of damp woodland, earth and crushed leaves come through. At times in its unfolding it's extreme and even going towards unpleasant, but it doesn't go over the edge and there's still this cool, dewy rose floating over the top.

It's not a scent I wear very often: I have to feel strong enough for it, and I can only wear a couple of tiny drops as it is very strong. But my goodness, it's such a complex and original scent. I wouldn't want to be without it.

FrugalFashionista · 17/04/2015 11:19

Lovely to hear from you ladies!

Niminy loving your description! Tauers can be like that! I swear some of them have a direct connection to my limbic system... I love Une Rose Chypree too but definitely not an everyday brain-on-autopilot scent...

One your scent sounds fascinating!

shins · 17/04/2015 14:38

...waves...

Perfume update: I scored a sample of Chanel's Misia. It's quite lovely but the longevity is RUBBISH! Gone in about three hours. Very offputting. If you want that kind of thing, go for Malle's Lipstick Rose, you'll still smell of it even after the next morning's shower..

I ordered some Malle samples, they're great value I think and amazingly rapid delivery. En Passant, Dans Tes Bras and Eau de Magnolia for the spring. Magnolia is a bit cheap and synthetic, reminds me of some famous mainstream perfume I can't put my finger on. Any famous magnolia perfume you can think of? It's my SOTD anyway.

Like Frugalfashionista, I've been fairly staid recently, drifting towards old favourites that fit in with the time of year. Seville a l'Aube and Chanel No. 19.

I thought I was all Tauered out but I think I have to try this Rose Chypree...

FrugalFashionista · 17/04/2015 15:48

Ooh Shins that's sad to hear. Why do many Chanel exclusifs have such crap longevity? La Pausa is lovely but I have to spray it on my sleeve to keep smelling it. 1932 is a bit fleeting too but so nice because it knows how to stay in the background. The perfect office perfume.

I'm really behind in sampling Wink I haven't tried the magnolia Malle yet, mainly because it's usually a headache-inducing note for me. I love freesia, magnolia, lily, lily-of-the-valley, gardenia etc as live flowers but lots of them smell like cheap bubble bath in perfumes. Magnolias are in bloom here atm, need to go out and sniff the real thing!

FrugalFashionista · 18/04/2015 12:42

SOTD Huile prodigieuse, oiled my legs as it is a sunny day!
