If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

Hello dear Frugal!

SOTD- Today I am wearing Jacinthe et Rose by E Coudray. It's a sample and I am trying it for the first time. The Jury's out.

MissBattleaxe · 19/03/2015 23:23

Cointreau, (Hello by the way! Smile)I'm surprised at that because Sarah McCartney is absolutely meticulous about compliance and has encyclopaedic knowledge of EU regs and IFRA stuff.

I like the more recent 4160s- Ealing Green, London 1969, New York 1955, Tart's Knicker Drawer and What Katie Did on Friday Night. I wasn't as keen on the earlier ones.

I've got Tart's Knicker Drawer and Paris 1946 from 4160 Tuesdays -- they came as samples with my vintage L'Aimant and L'Heure Bleue, and they suffer by comparison. I'd say they bring new meaning to the phrase 'nothing special'.

SOTD is Caron En Avion which works its way through floral to powder and ends up with soft leather - at the leather stage now. I love it, am contemplating buying a decant for after the sample is finished. There's something about these really old-fashioned scents that I adore so much. They just don't put all their goods in the shop window, but instead reveal themselves over many hours. I'm also having a bit of an obsession with Knize Ten at the moment, which starts out such an austere leather and ends up, after several hours, so delectably rich.

canny1234 · 20/03/2015 16:07

Sotd is Profumum Roma's Ninfea - 1st day of spring!

ToysRLuv · 20/03/2015 17:51

Hi, everyone! I've layered vintage magie noire with vintage samsara today. The result is quite pleasant. Takes the sharpness out of magie noire and tones down the sweetness/loudness of samsara.

About longevity, I'm not that fussy, but am slightly disappointed if something I love is really short lived.. Sillage ditto. Some things can be almost too potent. E.g. LADDM is borderline for me. It's definitely a "one spray is more than enough" perfume for me.

Samsara is Mr Sheen by another name to me. I loved Magique Noire though, my friend wore it and I associate it with her. I agree that the 4160 Tues scents lack subtlety, at least the ones I have tried. They have been like the difference between Michael Sheen (a Mr Sheen I do approve of..) reading aloud and a drunken football fan shouting in your ear.

ToysRLuv · 23/03/2015 16:52

Tehee at Mr Sheen.. he's a bit loud, but I still love him. I wish he was a bit quieter sometimes, though.

TweenageAngst · 23/03/2015 17:25

SOTD Caron Montaigne in homage to the daffs and mimosa which are blooming everywhere.

ToysRLuv · 23/03/2015 17:27

Sotd: Bulgari Omnia. The polar opposite of Mr Sheen (Charlie? Grin ).

MissBattleaxe · 24/03/2015 11:57

Ooh I love Michael Sheen.

I found the early 4160s quite unappealing but the more recent ones had a lot more for my palate. New York is very violetty and I plan a full bottle purchase. Ealing Green is gorgeous and green, as is London 1969. Doe In the Snow is a gorggous citruusy chypre and I even liked What Katie Did on Friday Night which smells like bitter cherries and is addictive.

The early ones such as Shazam, Evil Max, Invisible Ben, Rose Monkey etc.. not such a fan.

However I have a full bottle of Sexiest Scent and an almost full bottle of Tarts Knicker Drawer up for swapping if anyone is interested. Both are 30ml.

SirVixofVixHall · 24/03/2015 12:30

I love Michael Sheen too..DH was at a conference with him a week or so ago. I was rather Envy. May have just a tiny crush.....
I didn't like the rose monkey etc New York, it sounded as though i would but I didn't, I wonder why? Haven't smelled the Ealing green or Doe in the Snow. DITS is one I want to try however.
Is it Rose monkey unicorn that is supposed the smell just like a famous old chypre? I couldn't get a feel for any famous old chypres I knew, so wonder which one they meant?

Carpaccio · 24/03/2015 12:41

SOTD: Guerlain - Guerlinade.

It starts off smelling amazing on the skin, floral and clean - like a really lovely floral soap, but it turns into an old lady smell on me after a couple of hours. I keep trying it on, hoping it will change.

leedy · 24/03/2015 17:13

SOTD: Sample of Marni Rose. Pleasant enough peppery/spicy rose.

MissBattleaxe · 25/03/2015 16:45

Leedy- have you tried Tobacco Rose by Papillon? It's outrageously good, as are all the three scents in the range- Angelique, Tobacco Rose and Anubis.

leedy · 25/03/2015 16:50

Ooh, no. Must seek out a sample. I like rose perfumes but only of a certain sort, IYKWIM. L'Ombre dans L'Eau is a favourite as well.

SOTD: See by Chloe Eau Fraiche, which is very apple blossom-y. I was attempting to feel springlike this morning even though it was freezing.

Sotd: Vintage Venezia. I remembered why I love this. Have worn it for a couple of days in a row now..

Apatite1 · 26/03/2015 18:16

My perfumes have been packed into storage as we slowly empty the flat. We are building a new house (at this rate it won't start till 2016!) and I need to design storage for my 67 bottles. Any ideas welcome!

For the next year I only have my samples and the following lesser favoured bottles to use up:

Estée Lauder modern muse
Guerlain la petite robe noire
Bulgaria omnia
Bulgari Jasmin noir
Chopard Casmir
Gucci flora
Kiehls vanilla and cedar wood
Gucci flora

And I had to keep my bottle of coromandel.

That's probably a years worth of perfume anyway, but I already feel deprived says the crazy perfume lady

canny1234 · 27/03/2015 14:30

Chanel Misia is SOTD today.I'm enjoying my decant but I think I prefer Lipstick Rose.I'm not overly keen on the Iris in this.Misia is a complex, restrained, mature perfume but Lipstick Rose is a joyful in-your-face burst of scent that I adore.
I've just ordered a bottle of Serge Lutens Laine de Verre.I love this perfume but it really doesn't last very long and is definitely not worth the full price.Feel Unique have a sale on though at the moment and its less than half price.I've never ordered from this company before though and reviews are somewhat mixed but HeyHo,its worth a try!

MissBattleaxe · 27/03/2015 20:55

Thanks for the mini review of Chanel Misia canny- I have been wondering what it's like.

My recent perfume crush is the Perfume Society Discovery Box. They are about £10 if you're a member and they fill them with all sorts of fab samples and usually a posh handcream or skin care stuff too. I am obsessed- on my third one!

CointreauVersial · 28/03/2015 23:25

Ooh, MsBattleaxe, my fingers are poised on the "buy" button for the Perfume Society Love Scents box - the one with all the rose. Do you have that one? I might just take the plunge.

Sampled a lovely one today while in House of Fraser - Clinique Aromatics in White. It's the second time I've tried it, and I might just have to invest in a small bottle. EBay have lots of 4ml bottles which will do me for now.

MissBattleaxe · 28/03/2015 23:27

Cointreau- yes I do have the Love Scents Box from the Perfume Society- it's gorgeous and seemed to have so much in it! It's like getting a little birthday present.

I also love Aromatics in White. I thought it had a touch of the Serge Lutens about it and rate it very highly.
