Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

Ah, Frugal, snow in Scotland is not quite snow. It's all gone now, though.

Sotd: Paradise Lost. I've enjoyed it. Thanks Toomuchtea!

Also, thanks, Tween, I finally got your package today (it was hidden by the postman, but I never got a slip through the door, so did not think to search for it)! I'll try Dubai later.. :)

FrugalFashionista · 04/03/2015 17:30

Aqua Divina faded in a fairly ugly way.

It's raining now and I needed something strong and substantial to cover the acrid dregs so now I am wearing Eau des Iles by MPG.

This is the olfactory equivalent of a gray sweatshirt, a masculine, rich and smoky, with a delicious tinge of sweet coffee. So good, so simple. Why do I ever bother with anything else?

niminypiminy · 05/03/2015 09:26

That sounds fabulous, Frugal.

I'm wearing my pre-WW2 L'Heure Bleue. It's so different from the modern version, which I don't like at all it turns thin and tinny. But this is rich and honeyed, and slightly animalic. There's a big wallop of vanilla underneath the flowers but not in a Shalimar-like way, more as warm base for the flowers to emerge out of. It's dreamy it does make me think of summer evenings and the scents of warm skin and night-scented flowers mixed together.

I also have a sample of pre-WW2 Coty L'Aimant which I'm looking forward to.

Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca today.I bought this as an antidote to the rest of Boots perfume offerings yesterday. It was bitter and fresh unlike the rest of the sweet syrupy perfumes. After the first few minutes of blossom this reminds me of Orange Sanguine with added bitterness from the rind and pith.
4160 Tuesday vintage perfumes are gorgeous aren't they?I really want to try the L'heure blue now.Which other ones would you recommend Niminy.I've only sampled In Love Again so far.

niminypiminy · 05/03/2015 12:02

Bitter and fresh sounds like what the doctor ordered, Canny.

I've only just discovered the 1460Tuesdays vintage stash, so haven't explored any further. As yet!

Ooh Nimimy that sounds exactly what I love. The current version is a bit anorexic - haven't tried a vintage one... Enjoy!

We've spent the day in Florence. On the train now, totally relaxed after a day spent at Palazzo Pitti and having a lunch of kale, trippa and grilled radicchio with a bottle of Montalcino. As a souvenir, I bought a bottle of 1932 extrait. The Chanel boutique in Florence does not have Misia yet. But I sampled the new Hermes Jardins perfume, Monsieur Li at the station - a bracing vervene-like citrus, very austere and minimalistic, very unisex. This is my idea of a perfect day: art, food and perfume - and back home for the evening Grin

Carpaccio · 05/03/2015 15:23

Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia today - very summery, maybe a bit too much for a spring day, but I love it.

Harrods surprised me with a letter containing 4 Givenchy Mes Envies Irresistibles perfume samples. Looking forward to trying them soon :)

FrugalFashionista · 05/03/2015 16:30

Canny I love AA Nerolia Bianca, a reliable summer choice for me. AAs are great picks when you need something a bit undone...

TweenageAngst · 05/03/2015 16:54

Feeling very envious of your day Frugal, it sounds like heaven. I spent mine in a windowless box fighting for a PC.
SOTD- Penhaligons Artemisia. Thanks Toys- It started off very bitter green before setting into a lovely woody, powdery, vanillary scent which has lasted all day.

CointreauVersial · 05/03/2015 17:39

I'm enveloped in the warmth of SL Chergui today (thanks Toys! ). I had long since used up my decant.

By the way is the Perfume Society worthwhile? I'm quite tempted by some of their sample selections, but not sure if it's worth joining, or just paying a higher price for the boxes I fancy.

Wanted to share this perfume club - haven't tried it myself but saw it on Philip Kraft's FB page. There was a speed sampling set there too that sounded intriguing but only available at Luckyscent (=US-based, so a customs nightmare).

Tweenage, most of my days are spent indoors in a very unglamorous way, and I worked for several years in a windowless cubicle - so sending karmic payback your way Wink

1932 extrait feels properly grown-up - laid back but ultra elegant, can't stop sniffing my wrist. This must be one of the cheapest items at Chanel, but for me it makes everything feel more stylish - including my jeans and sweatshirt Grin M Li is not fading as prettily, I'm getting a slightly chemical aftertaste.

SOTD: Tom Ford Mandarino di Amalfi as I have a manky sinus infection and for some reason can a)smell citrus and b)find it oddly comforting.

CointreauVersial · 06/03/2015 18:29

SOTD is probably my oldest surviving bottle of fragrance - Burberry Woman. Warm and peachy-woody.

FrugalFashionista · 06/03/2015 18:34

Cointreau I have a few mls left too from my pre-perfumista days. Would love to use it up but cannot commit to a fortnight of sweet peachiness. In small doses, however, it is really soothing.

We really do like the same things toomuchtea, I like Dans tes bras (or "in your bra" as DH likes to call it while sniggering like a teenager) very much, I like its soft warmth.
SOTD for me is the one you suggested, Relique D'amour. I really like it, and interestingly somehow it does remind me of Ivoire, so maybe that is why you liked it too? I wore the Reve D'ossian yesterday, which is very very familiar, so either I've tried it before (Did les senteurs ever stock it?) or it smells like something else I've tried. Anyway that church interior feel always goes down well with me, so I like that very much too. I also got (in my sample pack) The muguet, lovely lovely, think i will get it for my Diorissimo wearing mother for mother's day, Heliotrope blanc- not keen on this, so if anyone wants it I will post it on. Horizon-haven't properly tried this yet, deja le printemps, smells nice at first sniff, will try it tomorrow, and violettes de czar as I like violets, but haven't tried that yet either. The little box full of samples smells fab, a hefty waft of ambergris.

FrugalFashionista · 09/03/2015 13:55

SOTD Burberry Woman. Sunny spring day, two people in our house down with the flu, so need something mellow and soothing.

canny1234 · 09/03/2015 15:03

In need of a olfactory pick up today hence Nerolia Bianca. Its strange,i found this perfume really bitter last year and bought Elie Saab le parfum instead ( for its orange blossom). Now I can't bear the sweetness in the Saab and am craving fresh bitterness. Its also a really dull cold day today and Spring seems a long way away.

FrugalFashionista · 09/03/2015 18:11

Canny I love bitter foods (radicchio, endives, bitter oranges) and anything bittersweet. AA Nerolia Bianca is absolutely mouthwatering...

OneLittleLady · 09/03/2015 18:23

I'm really impressed by the Marks & Spencer Florentyna range. the white flowers flanker especially, it's so clean and crisp yet still a deliciously overblown floral. For their price point, I'm really really impressed by them. the new flanker, midnight floral (so new its not even on fragrantica yet) is also lovely, a lot softer and more powdery though not at all 'old lady' there's none of that associated mustiness to it. I recommend a sniff if you like florals like i do

tyaca · 09/03/2015 21:15

Hello,

I'm a bit of a lurker here. Just wondered how much longevity and sillage people want/need?

I find a lot of fragrances I love just turn into nothing after 2-3 hours and it all feels a bit pointless. I don't mind so much about sillage (though a bit would be nice) but longevity is really important to me. The perfumes I've really liked have been a day-long journey, changing as they dry down, still very much present and with me...

Do I have unreal expectations? Could it be my skin, or maybe my nose? What are the long-lasting perfumes? So far, the only ones I love that hang around for me are Oriza's Horizon and Tauer's Morracain Desert [sic] and Eau d'Espices.

TIA

tyaca · 09/03/2015 21:18

oooh, and my SOTD is Mure et Musc. Bright and sweet and playful for a bit but then ... nothing ...
