Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

BotoxednSpanxed · 05/10/2014 01:27

i'm goinh yo likr hrt on gb oo

BotoxednSpanxed · 05/10/2014 01:30

oh, anybody would think I had posted that drunk. no, not drunk, no, my fingers were just a centimetre to the right.

canny1234 · 06/10/2014 09:51

OK,I believe you Botox!
SOTD is Serge Lutens Fleurs de Citronnier.A warm fresh lemon blossom suitable for cooler weather.Yesterday was La Fille de Berlin - a pure red rose with an initial burst of pepper for freshness.
I managed to accidentally buy 2 bottles of Drole de Rose from Tk Maxx the other day( will probably return one)Did anyone else succumb?

CorrigansDoorKnob · 06/10/2014 12:07

Morning all. I was hoping that the perfume thread would start back up again after I stumbled across the previous ones a couple of months ago.

I gave up on perfume a few years ago after all the mainstream perfumes I tried left me with a headache and feeling slightly nauseous. Until I found the old threads I didn't think there were any perfumes worth having - how wrong was I!! Several score samples later and a perfumista has been born.

SOTD is Bois des Iles. It's raining and a bit cold here so it's warmth and spiciness is perfect.

I found Jour de Fete in my mum's local TK Maxx, which is an almondy extravaganza, but actually quite subtle and wearable.

shins · 06/10/2014 13:50

CorrigansDoorKnob, I love Bois des Isles, have been hankering after a fb for a long time now.

SOTD: Amouage Jubilation from a sample. It's a modern chypre, reminds me a lot of Chanel's 31 Rue Cambon. Monster sillage and very luxurious.

Didn't see anything in the TK Maxx sale that interested me, but good to know..

CorrigansDoorKnob · 06/10/2014 18:06

I like the sound of the Amouage shins. Is the Chanel 31 an Exclusifs? I'm hoping to go to the Chanel store to try some more of them when I get back home. I briefly went in there about a month ago but dashed back out as I was more than a little intimidated...

Carpaccio · 06/10/2014 18:27

Fleurs de Citronnier sounds lovely!

SOTD is Jil Sander Pure. It's clean and fresh. I love it and have used it for many years, yet it is one I seem to forget that I have.

Yesterday I tried a couple of Guerlain perfumes I've never seen before - Cruel Gardenia and Cuir Beluga. And the two Arsene Lupin ones (men's perfumes). Not keen on any of them - so heavy!
The new men's perfume is also not very nice. First time I smelled it, it was lovely. Now not so nice. My partner tried it and spent the rest of the day saying 'why would anyone want to smell of almonds, why!?'

I've never been a massive fan of Chanel perfumes as I've found them really heavy and a bit too old lady like for me (I've always liked Allure and Chance though), but I gave Coco Mademoiselle a chance yesterday, and I really like it!

TK Maxx has a Hermes perfume a while back on their website, but the listed RRP isn't right. They are selling the 50 ml perfume but listing the 100 ml RRP, so some people would probably think they're getting a bargain, but they really only save £8 compared to buying it directly from Hermes, and not £32 as TK Maxx claim. It's a bit sneaky...

They do have Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely perfumes - I think some people on here have mentioned not being able to find it in the usual stores anymore.

thecatfromjapan · 06/10/2014 18:45

Goodness, that is sneaky (about T K Maxx). I succumbed and ordered the Artisan Poivre ... and found Chasse aux Papillons in my local - I've set it aside for a Christmas present for my dd.

Otherwise, I;ve been: checking out Guerlain's as well - I quite liked their "London" city scent - which had rhubarb as an scent ingredient and was subtle and modern; getting excited about Le Labo's bi-annual unlimited release of their city scents ... and then a bit disappointed, because the only city scent I really like is their "Poivre"; suddenly discovering a craving for "green" fragrances.

You know how you can get food cravings, that can only be satisfied by, say, a big plate of beetroot? Well, that is how I suddenly - and inexpicably - felt about "green" perfumes. I ended up spraying myself liberally with Sisley'd "Eau de Campagne" and feeling a lot better ... and then with Chanel's "Bel Respiro" and completely falling in love.

I don't know what is wrong with me! I'm usually a white flowers and iris kind of girl ... but there I was, lured away from 28 La Pausa, and committing perfume-adultery in my heart with another Chanel. Life is full of surprises.

Love the sound of Amouage ...

And many thanks for the link, Shin. I think I will be checking that out, credit card in hand, next time I can justify a purchase.

Apatite1 · 06/10/2014 19:20

Oh god, try not to get sucked into the Amouage black hole!

I have succumbed to full bottles of lyric and memoir already. Luckily, I have rellies in the Middle East, and they buy it for significantly less at the duty free for me.

thecatfromjapan · 06/10/2014 19:25

Love the idea of the Amouage black hole.

(I'm also apologising for the rogue " 's " - I feel I have to apologise for it because I've spent a while drumming its usage into the heads of the small and I feel guilty and hypocritical now.)

Right. Must now go and do cat-herding: urging the off-spring to finish homework and consider bed-time. Wish me luck. I may be gone some time.

bewleysisters · 06/10/2014 21:06

SOTD: Rosa Nobile, Acqua Di Parma. More suitable for a wet autumn day than you might think: base notes of amber and musk. Bit of a random choice: went into John Lewis on Saturday to try TF Velvet Orchid (again) but no tester - was given a sample of this in consolation.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 06/10/2014 21:07

Cat is eau de campagne the tomato one?

Grin at cheating on Chanel. I reckon she'll be fine as long as you don't defect to lesser houses. Shock

SOTD here was a mystery sample from Les Senteurs that has lost it's cardboard holder. It's gorgeous, actually. Leather and smoke and lots of wood like an old man's study. Perfect for Autumn. Very masculine but I'm off anything too flowery as pregnant so that suits me. Want to put on more before bed.

ToysRLuv · 06/10/2014 22:06

Hi everyone! had a very busy day today. SOTD: L'Artisan Dzing. My comfort scent.

I wish I could get my hands on Jour de Fete for a good price. I've got Loukhoum and Eau d'Hiver for almond now, so should save and stay away from tkmaxx. I am also craving Poivre Piquant.. Only pear thing I have got is a small sample of Petite Cherie.

bewleysisters · 06/10/2014 22:14

Anyone seen Traversee du Bosphore or Seville a l'Aube turn up at TK Maxx?

wiltingfast · 06/10/2014 23:14

Finding I have a huge urge to run up and raid our local tk maxx!! No way I could resist l'artisans for real at that price right in front of me if they had dzing it would already be mine

Have you tested poivre piquant toys? I just like the description on frangrantica...

Spent the day with coromandel but it's still too early for it think, it felt a bit too raw alll day. Found some bvlgari the vert in my bag and think I will wear that tomorrow.

catfromjapan have you tried ninfeo mio? A really wonderful figgy green...

OP posts:
leedy · 07/10/2014 08:59

Ooh, figgy green? takes notes

SOTD: a sample of Tom Ford Costa Azzurra, which is nice enough, kind of warm and woody. Possibly a bit too "Summer in the Med" for today, which is FREEZING.

cressetmama · 07/10/2014 09:24

Hello all, loving all your seasonal choices and feeling very scared to enter TK Maxx! If they had Dzing I too would be lost!

SOTD is Tokyo Blossom, a Nose sample spray. A bit like the 4160 Tuesdays Urara's Tokyo Cafe, but without the oily basenote. I was thinking about layering them on one wrist but fear it would blunt the delicacy and delight of the TBlossom. Your thoughts? It's waiting on my desk!

shins · 07/10/2014 10:38

SOTD: vintage Bal a Versailles parfum. It’s really strange, on one hand the top notes are sweet old-fashioned ladylike floral. The base notes are incredibly civety and musky though, which is confusing – it’s a dirty old lady perfume! I look it up and see that it is famously “skanky” according to the Perfume Posse. I like it but am meeting Mr B, my teenage son’s form tutor today, I hope it’s not a poorly ventilated room!

I’ll avoid the Amouage black hole... I had a sample of “Gold” which is gorgeous but reminded me a lot of my Arpege which is a lot cheaper even in vintage.

Bewleysisters, I think the nature of TK Maxx means they’ll have the less popular L’Artisan scents, I would love to find Seville a l’Aube there but it’s a slender hope.

Deathraystare · 07/10/2014 11:52

Going for an old favourite today - Carven's Ma Griffe. Hoping it will comfort the interview jitters later!!

StUmbrageinSkelt · 07/10/2014 12:00

Poivre Piquant is my every day perfume, love it, love it.

I think I'm the only Brisbane person on these threads but Libertine are having a pop up sale starting Thursday 4pm at their James St address. I of course will be resisting.

canny1234 · 07/10/2014 12:20

Tk maxx in their wisdom have sent me the two Drole de Roses in different packs ,one of which has been dropped,as I could smell perfume the minute I got to the doorstep. There is absolutely no padding in the packages.Boxed bottle has been shoved into a plastic bag as it is.
I have agreed to swop one for Jour de Fete so I am now left with no bottles( though I do have a 90% full one next to my bed).
StUmbrage is Poivre Piquant similar to Lanvins Oxygene?
Cressetmama go for it!
Shins wash it off!( well,I would).I have Sisley's Eau de Soir which smells positively skanky on me.Kids will not let me in the car with them, when i'm wearing it.

StUmbrageinSkelt · 07/10/2014 12:50

canny, I don't know as I haven't smelt oxygene.

ToysRLuv · 08/10/2014 07:15

Wilting: No, not trien PP, but it sounds good..

Canny: That is weird about the packaging! My bottle was surrounded by 3 inch thick bubble packaging! You should complain, I reckon..

Sotd: No idea yet. Something ambery for this weather..

ToysRLuv · 08/10/2014 07:21

Just checked out poivre piquant again and feel like an idiot. No pear there (in my defence, never learned French at school or anywhere else)! Still, looks good. It has inspired me to wear Le Feu d'Issey today.

shins · 08/10/2014 09:47

SOTD: Chanel No. 19, because I need to get things done today and it’s that kind of scent. I don’t really see it as that green, more woody and warm.

I’m laying off the perfume buying for the moment until Christmas, but am waiting on some decants from Surrender to Chance. Guerlain’s Apres l’Ondee, L’Heure Bleue, Chamade and Jicky. I’ve sprayed all of these before at department store counters but I need 5mls or so to see how much I really like them.

I have some samples/odds and ends I might swap, must make a list of them. I often pass on my unwanted perfume to my seven year old daughter, a budding perfumista. It makes me smile to think of her sitting in her classroom reeking of Frederic Malle’s “Lipstick Rose” or whatever is too girly for my taste. Had to take back my Fracas sample from her because I decided I loved it after all.
