Remember our chats??

Our SOTD (scent of the day)?

Is there a thread I've missed Shock

If not, lets take it up here :)

SOTD an unknown sample from my perfume drawer, woodsy and irisy, am baffled but enjoying it!

OP posts:
ToysRLuv · 14/10/2014 19:49

This thread is getting lost pretty deep

SOTD: Opium Vapeurs. Weirdly, I remember it being a lot more subtle. It's really quite strong.. A bit too strong for daytime wear, perhaps.

leedy · 14/10/2014 20:52

SOTD: Sisley Eau de Campagne. Greeny greeny greeny green, the masculine end of unisex but not so much that I wouldn't wear it. Also amazing lasting powers, I spritzed it on this morning and can still smell it.

canny1234 · 14/10/2014 23:34

L'artisans parfumeur Jour De Fete.Received this in exchange for a Tk Maxx's Drole de Rose.A whisp of almond essence initially mellowing down to a wheaty almond batter with a tiny bit of sugar powder. This is the closest I'm ever going to get to a gourmand. Its a cashmere sweater weekend smell.
Thank you ToysRLuv!

SofaCanary · 14/10/2014 23:39

Hello experts, can you recommend me something warm, soft, comforting and almond based please.

I've ordered samples of Lea Calypso St Barts and Mazzolari Alessandro, am I on the right lines?

SofaCanary · 14/10/2014 23:41

X post with canny.

Jour De Fete could be what I'm looking for!

leedy · 15/10/2014 08:35

Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia is also almond-y and lovely.

canny1234 · 15/10/2014 09:19

I can also recommend Guerlains Champs Elysée( lilac and almond),Drole de rose by L'artisan Parfumeur ( rose and almond powder) and the Almond Elie Saab ( fresh green almond).

cressetmama · 15/10/2014 09:37

SOTD: Comme des Garcons, again! Love the oddness and the incense.

StUmbrageinSkelt · 15/10/2014 09:45

Fougere is a fern scent, so lovely and fresh and green.

leedy · 15/10/2014 10:44

SOTD: Etat Libre Like This. Super autumnal - very warm, gingery, sweet-spicy.

thecatfromjapan · 15/10/2014 21:23

Leeds - I'm wearing eau de cpagne a lot at the moment. I am loving it!
I checked it out with your tomato question in mind, canny. The opening IS very tomato-ey.
It reminded me of late summer and early autumn huddled for comfort in the greenhouse sigh my sister (our mother used to send us out to "play" whatever the weather - hideous, but at least the greenhouse ws warm).

SofaCanary · 15/10/2014 21:46

Thanks for the suggestions!

ToysRLuv · 16/10/2014 16:42

sotd: Carnal Flower. It's making me feel a bit sick, actually..

leedy · 17/10/2014 08:47

SOTD: Prada Infusion d'Iris. It's nice but not amazing - sort of a pleasant, clean, dry iris smell, at least on me. Not one to frighten the horses.

canny1234 · 17/10/2014 10:12

SOTD is Byredos Bal d'afrique.I get predominantly tangy vinegary Vetiver and a very strong silage.I've become Anosmic to blackcurrant sadly so this perfume isn't balanced now.I used to love this and Ysl's' In love again' - both with fruity blackcurrant.
I used to have the Prada Iris too Leery. Then discovered my favourite iris - Miller Harris'sTerre de Iris. This manages to be a warm Iris ( I wear in winter) whereas most Iris perfumes are cool ethereal affairs.Which is definitely not me.

ToysRLuv · 17/10/2014 11:02

Aww, sorry to hear that, canny. Wonder how that has happened.. I like the blackcurrant in In love Again and esp. in Funny. I would love to smell "Enchanted Forest" (has anyone here?), which,if I remember correctly, features a prominent blackcurrant..

SOTD:A teeny sample of Lipstick Rose. It's one of my all time favourites, but out of my league price wise, ATM. I use it drop by drop, like it was liquid gold (price probably not hugely far off bitter). I love the waxy quality. It's almost a gourmand. I think it is in many ways similar, in feeling, to another all time favourite of mine Hilde Soliani's dreamy "CiocoRossissimo". There is something in both fragrances that is almost churchy? Maybe the waxiness.. Anyway..

BTW, I was wondering if any of you owners of a Jour de Fete fb would be willing to (please, please, please!) do me a decant of 5 or 10 ml, I would be happy to send you the mini bottle to spray in. In terms of compensation, could do a swap by ml (see my list earlier in the thread) or I can just pay you on paypal. I was watching a bottle on e-bay, but the price crept up too high for me.. Sad

ToysRLuv · 17/10/2014 11:05

I found Infusion d'Iris very watery and strangely vegetal (but not in a good way). Like stale pond water with some rotting flowers in.. Maybe there's something wrong with my nose (could well be!).

leedy · 17/10/2014 11:36

Could be how it reacts with your skin, something dreadful happens with a lot of white flowers (particularly jasmine) on me - not great immediately, admittedly, but after an hour or so it's DEAR GOD GET THIS OFF ME. Remember trying something ages ago that started off as a lovely gentle camomile/baby cologne/milky sort of smell and a few hours later was BLARING JASMINE PUKEFEST. I have learned to watch out for jasmine notes being listed anywhere in a description, even if they're not immediately obvious.

Wonc · 17/10/2014 11:54

I'm wearing Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez today and I love, love, love it. It smells creamy and a bit like vanilla. But much, much better.

Although perhaps you shouldn't listen to me. I told a young girl she smelled great the other day and asked her what she was wearing. Turned out to be One Direction's perfume. Blush

SofaCanary · 17/10/2014 12:12

Like the sound of that Wonc, I tried Narciso Rodriguez For Her recently after reading raves about it on one of the MN threads. Meh, it was horrible on me, nothing but heady flowers, yours sounds much more appealing.

My Jour de Fete arrived today, it's very comforting and cosy, a bit like baby powder. It's light though so I get to spritz away merrily, which is always fun. I'll be happy to give you a sample, Toys.

canny1234 · 17/10/2014 12:19

ToysRLuv can you include the decant bottle in my package today?
I would be happy to do a decant for you.Do you just spray or do I need special decant equipment?
Sorry Leedy, my tablet autocorrects your name to Leery ( bizarrely).
I think I have that problem with Iris too.But I love jasmine in virtually every form.My favourite summer perfume is La Chasse aux Papillon and I'm enjoying Tendre jasmin in autumn ( both jasmine bombs).

canny1234 · 17/10/2014 12:48

Tk Maxx have L'artisan Parfumeur back in stock -drole de rose, batucuda and Le Poivre Piquant. If you are prepared to take a punt on them arriving intact!

ToysRLuv · 17/10/2014 15:43

Thanks SofaCanary and Canny! Since the envelope is till sat on my table (ready to go, so was going to take it to the post box today), I will pop a bottle in it for you yo fill, Canny. No special equipment needed at all, just spray straight in. Thank you sooo much! What would you like in return? Or shall I paypal you some money (easily done, so just PM me with your PayPal linked e-mail address and the amount, and I will get onto it). Let me know.

Leedy: No sign of my letter yet? I hope it's not stolen by customs (I wondered whether that would be a fab place to work as a perfumista - just take all the lovely stuff!)..

Narciso Rodriguez is very meh on me, as well.. Sort of floral and sweet. But, then again, I don't like lots of things other people do. I have a weird taste and rely a bit on strange olfactory memories. On my wishlist at the moment are, for example, Soliani's CiocoRosissimo and Fraaagola Saalaaataa .

Jasmine is fine on me and tuberose too, but they can be a bit stuffy and heavy sometimes. I find myself gravitating back to simple and light fragrances after a period of heavy vanilla, amber and incense. One of my new faves is Eaudemoiselle de Givenchy. It's lovely and rosy - chic, yet smooth and rounded.

canny1234 · 18/10/2014 15:28

ToysRLuv i have received my package already.Must have been supersonic postage!
I have sprayed every bit of skin that I can get to.Thank you.
SOTD is J'adore.I really like this but have resisted buying a bottle up until now so having the mini is lovely.

ToysRLuv · 18/10/2014 15:36

Cool! Fantastic! :)
