Thomas the Tank magazine Shop ....buy it at the airport! makes it more exciting!!!!!!

shopafrolic · 25/07/2014 20:31

Good call Dry. I still need to figure out what to wear for travelling. The weather is so warm, but planes get so cold.......

MarshaBrady · 25/07/2014 20:42

Wear something you can stick in the washing machine afterwards. I do anyway, to Aus.

QueenCardigan · 25/07/2014 20:58

shop baby wipes and tissues too. And yes, definitely a change if clothes for you and him just in case of sickness or spillages. If you check Ryan air website it should be able to tell you exactly what you can take through security. I think the rules have relaxed slightly since we last went away.

Drywhiteplease · 25/07/2014 21:00

Shop i almost always travel in jeans with layers. I take a pashmina rolled up in my bag and socks so I don't get cold feet. Last time I travelled long haul I wore a maxi which ws so cosy.

shopafrolic · 25/07/2014 21:07

BrandyAlexander · 25/07/2014 21:17

Shop if you get a Thomas or Peppa magazine at the airport they come with a toy. I get 2 and hide one for journey back. Also 4 crayons - red yellow blue green. Is ds allowed hand luggage?

shopafrolic · 25/07/2014 21:22

Yes Novice - I got him a little rucksack (which I'm sure I'll be carrying). So far we have a doodle book, crayons, a sticker book, a couple of trains and a couple of cars.
It has a separate compartment for snacks so can fit in rice cakes etc and a side pocket for drinks bottle. this one

Sticker books!!!
And check he doesn't pack his alarm clock......dd (6 at the time) thought she'd need hers, made our security check v interesting Grin

BrandyAlexander · 25/07/2014 21:26

For Blair yes Austin Reed work clothes are fantastic quality. Love them and their sales are great.

I am pooped. I have spent this week bidding for 4 things which could make or break my next 6 months. Normally I get one of these a month. ShockShock

BrandyAlexander · 25/07/2014 21:29

Perfect! The rule I use is the dcs have to carry it but aren't allowed to open till we are on the plane. Take them out one by one and save the iPad (don't forget ear phones for him) as your last thing.

Turquoiseblue · 25/07/2014 22:13

Shop you re now allowed one bag carry on and another handbag sized bag per person on Ryanair (we flew them recently as by were only company to our destination.) you can pick you seats when you do online check in and everyone is allocated seats so you don't need to worry about queuing. We had actually a realtl positive experience with them. Though the planes are cramped IMHO Smile
Get child sized ear phones too (you ll get hem at airport if you can't find them before hand- we found out the hard way small adult ones won't work Confused
Post it s are as good as a colouring book- lots of fun sticking them all around. The aircraft and seats windows and colouring individual ones in etc too plus they re easily stored in handbags for extra space.
I bring a few new Lego bits for mine as they love it
Dd got the a huge Lego sticker book and has had hours (literally hours) or sticker fun.
The most important bit.... 2 lolli pop for take off and landing for sucking - dd goes crackers with the air pressure this helps - again learned re hard way (thank you to the lovely lady who brought a bag of lollies for her dc and shared with ours on the recent flight we tookGrin) - other trick is to get them to blow their nose into a tissue (if he s able) but hold their nostrils shut just as they blow to get ears to pop and equalise the pressure).
Bring those sachets of calpol too for days out whilst on holidays.

I package the bits for kids (food/ toys/ Lego/ colours) all into zip lock bags seperatly and they love getting them and opening them. Sometimes I wrap up one or two things too in wrapping paper - good way to stave off a tantrum and the unwrapping adds another 2 mins of distraction.
Lastly I m a freak but I bring anti sceptics creams for cuts/ bites and gel for hand disinfection in plane toilets etc. Spare light change of clothes handy too for change when you get to arrival airport. Cardi or extra top for kids in airplane too as they get cold when the plane cools.
Have a lovely time.

Turquoiseblue · 25/07/2014 22:15

Oh heck _ only read 1/2 the last few posts and realise I be repeated wise advice already given! Apologies! Now back to fashion........

Stokey · 25/07/2014 22:25

Shop you can take liquids through in kids beakers, they just make you taste it at customs. Keep it seperate with the see-through bag stuff. I normally take milk & water for mine.

I like a Maxi skirt on the plane with a hoodie in case it gets cold. We quite often order food on the plane for an extra activity.

Also if you can pay to pre-book seats, I recommend it. Then you can let them run around for as long as possible before boarding.

Have an amazing time.

Stokey · 25/07/2014 22:29

Liberty so great your Dh loved the red Alium B dress, so nice when you discover something old but new.

Drywhiteplease · 25/07/2014 22:59

Wow Turquoise you're a pro! I want a present to unwrap on board ......fantastic idea. Think post it's are inspired too.

annielewis · 25/07/2014 23:32

Wooo nearly the end of the thread! Speedy!

I have nothing to add to the flying advice shop sounds like you've got it all sorted! Have a fab time! I've missed where you're actually going, I'm sure you've said somewhere up thread..

Bought gold havainas today, and a black jumpsuit which I never thought I'd be able to wear because I'm a short arse but I loved it in the changing room, will try on again to rule out mirror trickery! Grin Also a few tops from mango new season, can't link as in phone, but they are both a lovely summery coral colour.

Have a great weekend, we are off to a wedding tomorrow so hope it stats dry!

QueenCardigan · 26/07/2014 08:38

Woohoo, nearly time for a new thread Smile

Stokey · 26/07/2014 09:02

Have fun at the wedding Annie, what are you wearing ?

There's a free garden party where I live today and tomorrow with the Brand New Heavies playing tonight - blast from the past, I think I saw them in my first term at University.

SoyYo · 26/07/2014 09:07

Morning everyone, I will try and speed up the end of this thread making way for a shiny new one.
Have just caught up, just want to sincerely apologise to Shop if I worried you with my Ryanair comments. Take no notice of me I am just a grumpy old girl sometimes! Blush
And I had no idea this is your first flight with DS.

So...all the advice given above is so sound I cannot think of anything else to say apart from Have a Lovely Holiday!!

Holidays with DC when they are still little are magical, and are to be cherished (mine not in the least bit interested in holidaying with us anymore now they are "grown up") and will stay in your memory forever.

Have Fun!!! Thanks

Drywhiteplease · 26/07/2014 10:29
