I am very excited.

Any tips, products I should buy?

Marking place for pics! I've just bought one of these when it was cheaper for some reason (£29) and it's great. It does similar things to that perm picture above.

Feeling very chuffed reading this thread as curly hair is often mocked mercilessly in popular culture, but my hair is naturally almost identical to Hazel's 'after' shot.

Now wanders off to sort out my other physical appearance issues!

bishboschone · 22/01/2014 19:44

I look forward to the pictures .. My hair was curly before ds and is now curly at the back and wavy at the front . I have debated a perm for a while..

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 19:45

branching would that work on a bob or is it too short?

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 19:45

Oh no sorry that was to eric

Dollydowser · 22/01/2014 19:50

All those lovely curly hairstyle photos are not from perms though.

HoneyDragon · 22/01/2014 19:53

I'm tempted to stay straight in the fringe department.

Or I can have it permed, and the straighten it anyway.

I've spent my life having to straighten my fucking fringe thanks to a bastard cowlick Angry

I personally prefer curly hair, straight blunt fringe. But will decide on the day I think Grin

I went to the hairdressers for a perm about 5 years ago.

Like you, I wanted big, loose curls. He refused to do it. Said because I have a natural wave (frizz) that it would have gone too curly.

HoneyDragon · 22/01/2014 20:03

I don't mind if it goes really curly at first, it'll drop eventually Wink

I really want my hair like that but m hairdressers refuses to perm my hair Confused.

Ledkr · 22/01/2014 20:10

Me too toffee

NorbertDentressangle · 22/01/2014 20:43

All these principled hairdressers who refuse to perm customers hair because they haven't got the right hair or the perm won't take properly etc......where the hell were they in the 80s, eh?

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 22/01/2014 20:55

But my hair has a natural kink in it so surely that is perfect? And I did have my hair permed around 1991 and it worked fine.

Hadmeathello · 22/01/2014 21:01

I had a not so principled hairdresser in the 90's who agreed to give me a spiral perm. I looked like crystal tips Wink

NorbertDentressangle · 22/01/2014 21:05

OMG! I was rocking the Crystal Tips look too.

Partly due to dodgy perm, partly due to unfortunate combination of hair dyes Blush

EirikurNoromaour · 22/01/2014 21:15

I'm not sure, I don't go too close to the root but I expect if you wanted more curls than waves you could do and it would work. It does waves rather than curls though so if your hair is too short it won't have much effect I don't think.

KareKare · 22/01/2014 21:21

I have hair just like SoYouSay's pic. Am I trendy for the first time in my life?

HoneyDragon · 22/01/2014 21:22

I think if you want Sosays effect you need to ask for something called a stack perm

OP posts:
DrNick · 22/01/2014 21:25

you cant have a curly fringe

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 22/01/2014 21:25

Shamelessly marking place to see the end result!

HoneyDragon · 22/01/2014 21:28

See I quite like this too

No, you can't have a curly fringe. I have no fringe.

My similarly curly mate has a fringe but she straightens just the fringe.

This looks odd.

ScentedScandal · 22/01/2014 21:35

The last time I had a perm was the 80's. I assumed things must have improved a LOT since then and casually enquired about a perm to my hairdresser recently. My hair is dead straight and I was thinking maybe nice loose natural curls..

He and then other staff in the salon were standing about -> Shock and Confused looking like I'd asked for a blue rinse or a footballers mullet.

I edged away promising never to bring the subject up ever again. I still don't know why though...

HoneyDragon · 22/01/2014 21:36

Kylie circa 1986 in her Scott and Charlene days is the only person who I can think of who successfully pulled of a permed fringe.
