Totally resurrecting a zombie thread but how has the perm faired out? I'm tempted to go for one, loose mid section to ends of a la Kate Middleton stylee ever hopeful

Glad to hear your perm is still looking good. I really wanted a perm but no hairdresser would do it. Odd really. Their advice was that perms are very bad for hair and high maintenance etc Boo hiss. Perms really suit me.

That through me seeing this in active.

Yes, still love it. Haven't used a single heated appliance since it was done. It looks good still and is incredibly low maintenance.

Need to colour my roots soon so will see how it copes with added chemicals Grin

I really want a perk but have had highlights for years. Is there any hope for me-do I have to wait for highlights to grow out?

Op your hair looks fab :)

Blush I'm not that good looking, it's a fuzzy lens.

I have to say if anyone asked I'd say go for it. I mentioned to my hairdresser about those of you who got refused, and she said a lot of hair dressers learned to perm but then never kept up with it. Or they aren't prepared to tell a client what their hair can do and what it can't.

So find a salon that has a clientele that do still get perms, or a hip young thing that is still fresh from training.

I do think its sad that hair is all about cut (obviously cuts important) and colour now, and a lot of styling options are completely over looked, like perms. I've not seen a Demi wave in a bazillion years, and I always thought they looked fab.

HoneyDragon, I will put my tuppence worth in if I may:

  1. You're very pretty
  2. I really like your hair, it looks very natural.
  3. I'm not in the slightest bit jealous of your good looks. Envy

I love it! It looks gorgeous.

Perms are long overdue a return imo - you have been v brave, but it was totally worth it.

Ouch Godless.

(It's £4.99 a tube and had the same ingredients as much more expensive products)

Right, this is today after washing yesterday and waking up.

I do apologise to the non hair related parts of the picture. I am wearing my Monday face.

I had a perm once that burned my scalp - my poor hair folicles have never recovered and my hair is really thin at the front now.

HoneyDragon - yours looks gorgeous (and have added Aldi Wrinkle Stop to shopping list).

We need a photo of your newly washed hair, to see if we can start a perm evolution Grin

I washed it with conditioner last night and let it dry, it looked great.

I'm really happy. For the first time ever, I woke up this morning and didn't need to do my hair. On account of it being done already.

So that's going to help with my New Years resolution to try and be more groomed.

Looks great, HoneyDragon - I am so relieved for you Grin.
Do keep dancing and bouncing, surely that's what a perm is for?!

The biggest peoblem with my many perms in the 80s was when they started to grow out. After about a month I'd have flat straight roots with an obvious line where the curl started. I'd be interested to know if modern perms produce the same effect.

You can still occasionally straighten your hair but using a LOT of heat protection as it's a chemical process so knackers even the best hair.
