Mmmmmm. I hope it works out but I'm dubious. I think that those lovely pictures of curly hair aren't perms.

Maverick66 · 21/01/2014 15:58

:) think Liz McDonald Corrie - just saying

HoneyDragon · 21/01/2014 16:02

Thought Liz AND Deidre, it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Well, you go girl! If you have considered both Liz AND Deirdre then you have given this sufficient thought ;)

HoneyDragon · 21/01/2014 16:39

I'm in denial about Keegan though......

oooooh is it the late 80s again? i've been waiting for this fashion to return.

i adored my perm, think i'd like one too

[mid life crisis surely not]

Maverick66 · 21/01/2014 16:54

Having come from the era of perms and having had my waist length hair cut to jaw length at tender age of 19 and then to have it permed several times over the years especially when my two dd's were babes in arms circa 1989 and 1992 I feel I speak with some authority and would advise you to proceed with caution. It is not a joyful experience to look at old photos and as op says there is always the "what do I do with my fringe?" Dilemma :)

MikeLitoris · 21/01/2014 17:12

I first had my hair permed aged 8 it looked horrendous with my wavy fringe.

I've heard good things about perms lately though. As long as you have a good hairdresser you will be fine. Can't wait to see the picture.

My hair is similar to your but very thick and almost bum length. It takes forever to style so am debating whether to go for the chop or not :/

HoneyDragon · 21/01/2014 17:16

I stuck with growing mine. Whenever I chop it I regret the upkeep of regular trims, and shaping.

I'm still I two minds about my fringe. When I curl my hair I always straighten it

If it looks frizzy then just get a set of heated rollers and some serum. It will then look like your pics.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 21/01/2014 17:25

oh you are brave op.

notso · 21/01/2014 17:29

I am watching with interest.
I would love a perm to get big loose curls like the picture you posted. I have really thick frizzy hair though so think it would not be a good result.

HoneyDragon · 21/01/2014 17:35

Well, I shall take the plunge and report back

Can we also see a photo when you have to style it and not the hairdresser as that is the bit I struggle with - come out of hairdresser with swishy hair, then after a wash I resemble the Worzel Gummidge picture above!

AutumnStar · 21/01/2014 17:39

Ooh that's exciting HoneyDragon. I was toying with that idea in the summer but I swim a lot so it'd probably get ruined.

Looking forward to seeing what it looks like. I think it'll look fine with a straightish fringe as well.

HoneyDragon · 21/01/2014 17:43

I don't let the hairdresser style my hair normally. I go home and do it myself Grin

However I've not set foot in a hairdresser in nearly four years so I'm going the whole hog.

PrivateBenjamin · 21/01/2014 17:43

Ohh watching with interest how it turns out. Are perms different now? Do they use bigger rollers or still the tiny ones like pencils? I saw a woman yearsago on '10 Years Younger' who had a perm. The perm rollers were kind of cone shaped and gave her really amazing large curls.

AutumnStar · 21/01/2014 17:48

What made you decide to do it HoneyDragon?

Ledkr · 21/01/2014 17:48

I used to love my perms but my hairdresser/best mate refuses to do them. She look at me like this Hmm if I suggest it. She dies the same if I discuss a fringe.
She is saving me from myself.

NickyNackyNooNoo · 21/01/2014 17:49

Zombie thread from the 80's Wink

I had mine permed back in the day...it went green, not the look I was aiming for Sad Grin

HoneyDragon · 21/01/2014 17:54

I've wanted long, properly curly hair for years but when it comes to a perm gave always let the doomsayers out me off.

However, they've unsuccessfully put me off various hues of hair colour, piercings and tattoos over the years. So I had a word with myself, which went

"Fuck it, I'm having a perm"

Thankfully, my hairdresser

A. Likes me
B. Is not afraid to say No, Honeydragon, No
C. Values her reputation as stylish

So she won't let harm befall me

Good for you. I had one when I was 13 Grin.

It lasted ages. Like years. I toy regularly with getting another one. Hope you like it!

PrivateBenjamin · 21/01/2014 18:18

I had straight hair, but after I had a perm my hair magically became curly all by itself. Now it is very curly.
