V. lightweight and roomy, these ones. I do know what you mean - they're a bit of a cop-out. But cute.

TheThreeFillyjonks · 03/06/2006 20:28

oooh, where can I get really cheap 3/4 length trousers from? Pref in black linen to go with my string bag?

TheThreeFillyjonks · 03/06/2006 20:29

sorry, summer string bag, that should have been.

compo · 03/06/2006 20:29

maybe people wear them with things on top - like boleros, shrugs etc. Or as vests under shirts... you are beginning to sound a wee bit fattist Mrs Cod

LadyCodofCOdford · 03/06/2006 20:30

compo · 03/06/2006 20:31

very true... I don't think I've worn a strappy vest top since I was a size 10 many moons ago Grin

FrannyandZooey · 03/06/2006 20:33

It really depends. I have seen huge people look great in a little top because they had great skin and a nice shape. I look crap in a vest top and always put a shrug or shirt on top. I think age / quality of skin is more important than size on this one.

LadyCodofCOdford · 03/06/2006 20:33

ah yes well maybe true
htink oyu need a ncie decollete adn collar bone adn not to be too broad

compo · 03/06/2006 20:33

I did se some horrors in town today...

compo · 03/06/2006 20:34

it's more those sun dresses that cling to every wobbley bit and are very short that should only be worn by teens that make me shudder...

NotQuiteCockney · 03/06/2006 20:55

A revealing top on a larger woman can be fine, particularly if they're norkish. But short shorts flatter nobody over a size ... god knows what. I'm an 18, and wouldn't consider them. (I do wear shorts, but always longer than mid-thigh)

The combination of revealing, tight top and short shorts is just strange on nearly anyone, never mind their size. Except on a beach I guess ...

charmkin · 03/06/2006 21:08

i am size 14 and have outfit planned for need to impress visit tomorrow and now I am panicking! Choc brown linen 3 quarter length trouser with choc brown longer length vest with goldie pattern and wide straps. And sparkly footbed sandles, turqoise and brown. and nice accessories. So is that ok or not styleeee police or am I too fat and should I just wear a sack and a sign apologising for my fatness?

Mercy · 03/06/2006 21:36

Flip-flops are useless for walking round town (or any where except the beach) which is why I always wear trainers.

What I can't stand is men wearing 3/4 length trousers. Most don't have the legs for it, or if they do, they are usually too old.

morningpaper · 03/06/2006 21:47

TheThreeFillyjonks H&M have some nice black linen 3/4 lengths for 9.99

billy bargain and quite lovely

moondog · 03/06/2006 21:51

Nowt worse than English obviously en vacances sporting goldie lookin' chains,Lambert&Butler smouldering entre doigtswith pasty tattooed calves barely covered by 3/4 length in polyester mix.
Smashing.

Wales crawling with 'em at present......

peachyClair · 03/06/2006 21:56

Don't do trainers, yucj, but did wear astrappy dres AND a bra today (made sure matched) but only way to give myself any norks, for deception rather than support iyswim.

Have a friend, must be a size 22?, wears size 16 and swears she is. Okaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy

Snafu · 03/06/2006 21:58

Hehehe - I've got a friend like that. Easily a 14 (and I should know), reckons she's an 8-10 Shock. Her ass tells a different story, however...

KommandantColditz · 03/06/2006 22:02

The only style objection I really have is this.

Women who wear the size they wish they were, and not the size they are. Size 12 women squished into size 8 - NO, it makes you look fat even if you're not!

Younger women are very much a culprit for this. Nothing nastier than a size 18 woman in lowrise size 14 jeans. That's not clothes, that's a perpetration.

flutterbee · 03/06/2006 22:04

OK I have read this whole thread and agree with most things but not all.

I noticed someone said they wore "city shorts" I can't stand these and think they look good on no one other than Kate bloody Moss please stop wearing them you will look like an idiot and no one will tell you the truth they will just comment on how fashionable or up to date you are.

Bozza · 03/06/2006 22:07

Charmkin I think that sounds fine.

Today I wore pink linen (3/4 thigh)shorts with blue and pink print design t-shirt and blue flip-flops to take DS swimmining. Then the rest of the day stuck in the garden potty training DD I wore very short turquoise shorts and a purple (with turqouise beading) vest top. And no shoes. And not enough sunblock.

TheThreeFillyjonks · 03/06/2006 22:10

thank you mp.

I shall not have to resort to rolling my (size 14) jeans up now.

don't you all be copying me, mind.
