SOTD Carillon Pour Un Ange from Tauer. Lily of The Valley to the power of 10! Gorgeous (unless you hate Lily of The Valley). I love how Tauers last about 14 hours.

Not sure whether you perceive it the same way but some masculine perfumes somehow always smell really farty to me - Pasha by Cartier and the supermarket cheapie classic Pino Silvestre. Pino Silvestre has one of the ugliest bottles I've ever seen - it's so ugly it's almost touching...

Frugal that bottle is awful

Trust me it looks even worse IRL Grin

It's so cold and wet that SOTD is Coromandel Shock

Frugal, I nearly laughed out loud looking at that bottle..

Don't know about the fartiness.. But that bottle really does spell out doom. Confused it looks like a green body part of some kind
SOTD: Missoni Molto. Hmmm. Ok. Cinnamony with some stuffy white flowers. DH declared that he didn't much like it.

Hahaha! Phallic much?

Toys thank you so much! Your parcel arrived today. I love them all - am beginning, in fact, to think that Tauer is something of an olfactory genius.

Have been wearing the Vetiver Dance today. It's not really my kind of perfume and I probably won't wear it again, but I still think it's beautifully done.

The Incense Extreme I love. It's not completely dissimilar to Sahara Noir infact, which I couldn't decide whether I liked or not. Incense Extreme is much smoother, better rounded, and more complex, and is lovely.

Will try the Pentachord Auburn after tonights bath.

Also, I sent your parcel with the Ambre Sultan, Arabie, and Shem el Nessim first class this morning so hopefully, it should arrive Monday morning, all being well Smile

ToysRLuv · 01/06/2013 17:35

Fuckit: Cool! Looking forward to your parcel too.. Glad the Incense Extreme found a loving home! Lots of people really think he is a genius, but think Tauer might not be my favourite, much as I have respect for him, because of something solvent-like in most of his perfumes that makes them go "bam - on!" from the first second. It reminds me a bit of the orange coloured (meant to be orange fragranced, as well, I guess) builders' soap liquid that designed to wash all sorts of gunk off your hands (DF likes a bit of DIY, so always has some of this in the house). Confused

I think Frugal once mentioned that he uses his own base called Tauerade for his perfumes, and I think that might be the thing I dislike. It's not quite so noticeable in (the drydown of) LADDM, Maroc or Une Rose Vermeille, which is why I quite like them, although I prefer more more "transparent smells". The Tauers, in my mind, feel like a heavy thick lick paint. Sorry for synesthesia talk there, but I really do get an image in my head of almost painting myself when I put a Tauer on. I really don't get that with anything else, however heavy it might be (think Angel strength). Odd.. Hmm

Molto has worn off so shall put something else now. Maybe L by Lolita.

Oh christ, somebody stop me! Have just been on a sample ordering frenzy. I am beyond excited though - will be mugging the poor postman every morning until I get my parcels!

I have ordered:

Les Senteurs

Tauer - Incense Rose (again as I gave my last sample to my mum)
Amouage - Jubilation XXV
Juliette has a gun - Midnight Oud
Maitre Parfeumer et Gantier - Ambre Precieux

Neroli

Montale:
Black Aoud
Red Aoud
White Aoud
Chocolate Greedy
Full Incense
Musk to Musk
Black Musk
White Musk

Surrender to Chance

Serge Lutens:
Chergui
Fumerie Turque
Muscs Koublai Khan
Clair de Musc
Bois Oriental

And that is it now until at least my birthday! Am particularly excited about the Montale's. Will no doubt be up for some swapping too, once I've tried them. Can't wait to try Muscs Koublai Khan - I want to see what all the fuss is about!

Wow, Fuckit! But it'll be a massive treat when it comes through, though! Smile

I'll be willing to try some of those, definitely, once you're done and know which ones you want to keep.. Muscs Koublai Khan is scary (for some reason I'm worried it'll smell like a hairy unwashed man who has been riding a yak for too long, dressed in furs and leather, drinking yak milk Blush).

I just got my package from Cheap Smells, which was delivered next door.. I mainly did an order for a reduced price Bedhead Small Talk, but chucked small bottles of Pink Sugar and CdSP Coco Figue. I like Coco Figue, which is now on my right arm. Nice, natural coconut with a touch of fig. It's a bit light on the sillage, though.. Pink Sugar, however, not sure about that one.. it's just synthetic blackcurrant jam at the moment. Hopefully I'll get some burned sugar at some point.. Otherwise will send it to DN (which one, though? The one that is 4 or the one that is nearly 11? Hmm ).

Toys my DDs (3 & 5) love Pink Sugar (they have a FB, and another of Bulgari's Petits et mamans) DH secretly too so your nieces probably too.

Wow great sample order Fuckit - hope you'll find some great experiences in it.

Tauer uses ambrox a lot - wonder if it bothers you Toys!

Report
ToysRLuv · 01/06/2013 19:38

Quite possibly it is the Ambrox, Frugal! The description of it makes sense..

I think I will send Pink Sugar to the 4 year old, since I already gave the 10 year old another perfume (with the same name as hers! I wish there was a perfume with my name..) for her last birthday.

Yes Toys, from reviews I've read of MKK, I'm kind of expecting 'brothel owners armpit'.

I do find though, that the more I get into niche scents, the more adventurous I feel. Smelling of fruit and flowers is definitely not for me. Aquatic notes be damned. I like darker scents I think, with spices and smoke and incense and leather and woods and musk. Definitely musk.

So we'll see. In my head I am wafting around smelling like a Moroccan souq/slightly unwashed sultans harem. But probably everyone around me is just thinking, 'christ that woman stinks' Grin

And what an absolutely lovely present for a little girl Toys - a perfume whose name is the same as hers!

I bet she was absolutely thrilled - I definitely would have been at that age Smile

Really Frugal? Would be interested to hear how you describe it. What notes are predominant do you think? Reviews I have read have described it variously as 'vile', 'fecal', and 'disgusting'. Which made me think, ooh I must try that Grin I like a bit of dirt.

Report
CointreauVersial · 01/06/2013 20:16

Blimey, Fuckit, your credit card must be melting. Grin

Toys, interesting what you say about the Tauers, because I don't get on with quite a few; Reverie au Jardin and Orange Star have a particular choking note which I really don't like.

But I'll forgive Andy because of Vetiver Dance, Rose Chypree and Lonestar Memories (love all these), and, of course the amazing LADDM....

Anyway, I have been wafting about today in a fabulous fragrant cloud of Portrait of a Lady (thanks Toys). Wow. Quite a big sillage, so I probably won't wear this one in the office, but it smelled rich and feminine, and evolved all day.

Still getting divine wafts from POAL....rose, then incense, now patchouli. Beautiful.

Glad POAL got a loving home, too! Really wasn't for me. Smile

I want to go on a tropical holiday now that I've got my beach scents sorted, but will probably have to settle for the family house in mainland Greece. All the better. Would have to worry about looking good in a swimsuit, otherwise..

Right. Have tried Tauer's Pentachord Auburn and it is... weird.

I smell like a strange sweetie.

Not keen.

Report
FrugalFashionista · 02/06/2013 18:44

Fuckit I don't get Pentachord Auburn. The notes sounded very promising, but it's a scrubber on me. Perhaps you all knew this already, but the pentachords are perfumes composed using just five notes/ingredients. That makes them ultraminimalist and kind of daunting, but I started to appreciate them more when I learned about this. Verdant is okay (but not a great love) on me, but Pentachord White is the only one that I really like. Challenging yes, but stimulating and rewarding.

It's been a warm day and I spent the morning part in a bikini!!! (Quite something - it's been extremely cold and rainy lately.) What perfume really works in the sun? You'd guess some citrus, but today I went full-out on LADDM and yes, it really worked!!! (Delicious very faint afterglow still left after a shower.)
