Shiny new thread for some shiny new perfumes (and classics and niche brands)

Jeux de Peau test today. Amazing stuff. There is a sweet slightly popcorny note at the start and I thought I had made a terrible mistake, but it settles fast to the exact smell of the inside of my elbows on a warm day when I was little. A bit like malted milk biscuits and sun and butter and hot dry fields all mixed up together.

I'm also eagerly awaiting my go on the violet package!

Toys I actually had a look at the listing to see if there was a disclaimer, even though I wasn't interested in the perfume. So the cat tactic is pretty good at standing out against all the other ads!

Harum what a gorgeous description. I would love to bottle the smell of the nape of my DS's neck after a warm day playing in the garden, when they've been rolling around on the grass and in the sandpit. (Sometimes wonder if I have given birth to puppies rather than children, they do like a good roll)

SOTD is Mure et Musc- it's really growing on me now. The opening has a planty green-ness, like the smell of a whole blackberry bush.

SOTD. Bronze Goddess ( courtesy of Boots counter tester). I really really like it even though I am about as far away from a Bronze Goddess as possible.

Im flying next week does anyone know if BG is likely to be found in duty free?

SOTD: Both Queen Latifah Scents. The other one smells like artificial boozy sweets and the other one smells of sweat covered with flowery deodorant. Sad I should have known really. Thought it was a massive bargain, and lots of people seem to like them..

Harum: I love Jeux de Peau. I didn't like it first time I wore it (in fact I thought it was revolting), but it's really grow on me.

I recently bought a bottle of Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights purely because of a rave review on Australian Perfume Junkies. Prior to that I had given it a very wide berth! However, it's not fruity floral and the main note is Papyrus. It smells a bit like new books and, (as per the review) a sort of new car smell.

It was a real surprise, not bad at all.

CointreauVersial · 06/06/2013 23:03

SOTD was Tom Ford Noir de Noir. Really wasn't hugely keen on this one; it reminded me a little of Angel, with a slightly choking chocolatey smell behind the floral. Fortunately it wasn't too "in yer face" but it didn't really improve as the day wore on. Ah well, you win some, you lose some.

Just bought a mixed bag of perfume samples for a good price and have tried to play "spot the perfume". A few Angels there and Pradas, a Ralph Lauren of some kind, and an Allure.. Smile

Toys mystery perfume auctions are my favourite- often end up with bargains that way (and a few surprise perfumes!)

This one is like a perfumed 'Where's Wally?'-

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Massive-Collection-of-1159-Miniature-Perfume-Bottles-Wholesale-Job-Lot-/330922342160?pt=UK_WSJL_Wholesale_GL&hash=item4d0c823710

If only I had a spare few grand kicking around Grin

SOTD is L'Air du Temps, very nostalgic for me as Mum had a bottle in the late 80s that she would let me use occasionally. Back then, I used to find it very strong and powdery and even one spray was too much. Today I've had a few dabs from a mini (seems vintage) and it's lovely in small doses, very strong on the carnations though.

Wow. Now that's a collection, Fuzzy!

I'm hoping that there are a few niches in my bargain as well, but happy enough with what I can see anyway..

I'm always a bit Confused at the listings that say something really vague like "used women's perfume" and then the bottle is something expensive. Doesn't happen often enough, though Wink

Oh, and SOTD is Loulou Smile Incense with "plastic" cinnamon. Yum!

SOTD is Acorelle Verveine Agrumes. Lovely citrus and herbs, but too faint and fleeting.

Report
HarumScarum · 07/06/2013 21:15

That sounds worth a try if not for the faint and fleeting thing!

SOTD, Quelques Fleurs Violettes (Houbigant). I really like this. A very pretty sedate violet with a hint of powder and something a bit cedary (?) lurking. It basically smells like your grandma's wardrobe, in a good way!

There is something in it that reminds me of the sparkly glitter stuff my redheaded grandma used to spritz on her hair before she went out. It smelt almost exactly like this. It's very fifties, I think!

Report
Fuzzybirds · 08/06/2013 21:51

I've been meaning to try some of the Acorelles, must do next time I'm in M&S!

Harum sparkly hairspray is a must for us at Christmas/ New Year (my Mum always puts some in my stocking- is it bad to still have a stocking at 36?)

SOTD is Chloe Innocence- this is very clean and fresh smelling. In fact, it reminds me of deodorant, too clean really. This evening I was craving something smoky and sweet and am now wearing the Perfume Parlour version of Tobacco Vanille. I love this so much, can't stop sniffing myself!

SOTD is Alexander McQueen MyQueen. It smelled really spicy on me today. Don't know if it was because of the heat but there was a real kick to it.

Have worn and enjoyed Tubereuse by Mona di Orio all day. Very honeyed and light. The weather is very hot and humid - very few perfumes work on days like this.

Lots of European airports seem to have a good collection of EL perfumes, but it really depends where you are going (duty frees vary a lot by country - those in the US tend to be really poorly stocked).

I also really like Mure et Musc. Toys may remember the Fazer blueberry pies that seem to use the same aromachemical - very comforting. I actually tried to buy a jar of blueberry jam at IKEA today, but my DC raided the candy shelves and a very angry SA chased us away Confused

Harum you should try Jessica Simpson Fancy Nights Wink

Mmm Fazer jam tarts... mmmm... Funny that about Mure at Musc! Never tried it, though.

DH's birthday today, so made a cake with grumpy DS (he didn't want any jam in it). Feel a bit sick now after 3 slices. Took some to the neighbours so that we didn't have quite so much left.

SOTD Hdp 1826. Feel a bit funny, like I'm smelling past history. It really smells old (in a good way).

Morning all!

Mure et Musc has me confused. I like the green parts in the opening but then it gets a bit soapy and I lose interest. Then I get the odd waft of planty green and I like it again....

SOTD is a random obscure one that came with an ebay bundle- Tristiano Onofri Femme. Very classic and vintage smelling, now has quite a strong honey note (verging on urine if I'm honest!)

Hope folk won't think I've had an accident Confused

SOTD: Kenzo Parfum D'Ete. Very green with lily of the valley. Nice.

That mystery bag of samples I bought from e-bay has turned out to be quite good: An Eau de Hadrien there, as well as a couple of Keiko Mecheris (although unmarked, so will have to guess the scent), and a lot of other stuff. Smile

May I join you rather than lurking? My only qualification is a loathing of tuberose... I have "standard" perfumes for day/night but am always on the look out (sniff out?) for something wonderful.

Tend to go for vanilla-y ones so wear Etro Heliotrope for work and Tom Ford Vanilla Tabac for showing off but have loads of others lurking around. Love your SOTD idea.

And would you tell me where I can order samples please?

Welcome Belle!

Lots of us like Tobacco Vanille too.

You can get samples, for example, from:

shop.lessenteurs.com/ (in UK)

www.scent-and-sensibility.co.uk/ (in UK)

www.histoiresdeparfums.com/intl/e-boutique/e-boutique-samples.php (in Europe)

www.luckyscent.com/samples.asp (in US)

and ebay, of course (often they are called "decants").

Also Frugal mentioned a website in Hungary that does for example Montale samples at a very good price.. Frugal, help me out here?
