Shiny new thread for some shiny new perfumes (and classics and niche brands)

Hello all and thanks to Shoe for the new thread!

Toys if no-one else has bagsied it, I would love to try Kyoto but you really don't have to send anything else Smile

Got back from a lovely, sunny weekend away a few hours ago and it started raining as soon as we arrived home, grrrr. Yesterday's sunshine was perfect for Premier Figuier and today I've been wearing Mon Numero 7, which is very nice but not really grabbing me.

I do think I'll be keeping my eye out for the L'Artisan sale and any offers on PF or Timbuktu....

Fuzzy: No worries, will put Kyoto in the packet for you, because you've had to wait so long. Smile

There's no hurry Toys! I'm very lucky in that our post office is very close (right by DS's pre-school) so sending stuff is easy. In fact, most of my perfume money comes from ebaying and sending out our old clutter Grin

Grin Toys iirc the new car smell is in many cases added on purpose. Here in Italy, many places sell perfume meant for the car dashboard.

A guy I know borrowed his mother's car and forgot a pint of ice cream in the back - for a week in the summer Confused He bought four Wunderbaums trying to cover up

ToysRLuv · 27/05/2013 21:44

Uuuuhh, wunderbaums...

It will surprise none of you that I adore New Car Smell, synthetic as it is. I love that plastic petrol thing.

Thanks Fuzzy and Cointreau! Your parcels just came, so I assume there isn't a strike after all.. Will try the post office today.

Haber: Some aspects of the new car smell, if it's stuffy, make me a bit gaggy and give me a headache. Some aspects are fine. I couldn't really tell you which are and which aren't, though..

ToysRLuv · 28/05/2013 16:00

Ok. Have now posted the parcels. Daylight robbery at the post office, because the darned things did not fit through their slot thing (should have remembered that). Angry

Oh well.. SOTD: Parisienne (Thanks Fuzzy!). Pleasant enough, but quite light. Would have lliked the vinyl note x 100 (but realise it wouldn't be a very mainstream perfume then).

Also briefly sniffed other things.. Ambre des Merveilles, Bendelirious and Une Rose Vermeille are promising (thanks again, guys!).

Toys I love Une Rose Vermeille, but that's the only perfume that I've ever been able to match to a car air freshener. I took a cab to go to a party, all decked out in the jammy jelly-roll goodness Biscuit, to realize that the little magic tree hanging from the rearview mirror exactly matched the my rare niche scent...

Today, safe and conservative in Chanel No. 19 EdP.

SOTD is Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. I was wearing trousers and a tailored Austin Reed shirt to work, and it seemed to suit. It's quite a crisp and austere fragrance.

Toys glad you got the samples! I have come a cropper with postal charges many times and now take great pains to pack things as thinly as I can (not always easy!)

SOTD was Estée Lauder Beautiful, then when it faded I tried Zara Black, which was a car boot find. It's a nice cosy, vanillary cinnamon but didn't last very long.

Did anyone see The Apprentice last night? Chasing round Dubai looking for the elusive "Oud".

It turned out to be a musical instrument - who knew??!

As a tribute, SOTD is Tom Ford Oud Wood. I can't remember which one of you loves it, but I'm enjoying it very much.

ToysRLuv · 29/05/2013 13:10

I saw it!!! I was trying to tell DH that "standard" "mahogany" oud just doesn't make sense and it's probably something else.. Weird to see so many shops dedicated to selling oud, though!

Felt sorry for Zee, although I don't like him. That blonde doctor woman is horrible..

Report
ToysRLuv · 29/05/2013 13:11

SOTD: Dzing, because me and oud just don't really get along.

SOTD Pear and Olive. I think I need something a bit punchier this evening, though. The rain is making me feel extremely miserable.

Oh, this is Haber here, btw. Felt like a name change.

Sadly I don't have power over the remote in our house, I would have liked to have watched the Apprentice!

SOTD is Cabochard, reminds me of Knize Ten but less 'in yer face' and more wearable.

Trying to decide on what perfume to wear for a wedding on Saturday- what would you ladies choose? At the moment I think L'Artisan's Nuit de Tubereuse- distinctive without being overbearing and unlikely anyone else will be wearing it.

Fuzzy, BBCiplayer is your friend.

For a wedding I would wear something light (not to overshadow the bride or draw too much attention to myself) and flowery (feels appropriate in spring). Amarige? Grin

Harum sending sunshine and yummy petroleum and new car and CdG Black fumes your way. My mood is weather-dependent too... But woody, tarry and ambery perfumes smell really nice when it's cold and dark. Would the glögg-y Rume match your mood?

I go easy on perfume at parties and family gatherings (there is bound to be someone very allergic or astmatic there). A citrus is usually inoffensive, or a rose or iris with little sillage.

No 'fume yet. It has been a busy day, with the usual tantrums (DD2 has decided that she hates me). Going out to dinner, thank god, so will pick something.

No SOTD.
Been working out, and used Weleda Buckthorne Oil and it smells so lovely so decided I didn't want anything on top.

HarumScarum · 29/05/2013 20:55

Thanks, Frugal. I am happily ensconced with Jeke now.

I love Weleda stuff, coffee.

Toys thank you so much, the package arrived this morning! Have had a try of L'air du desert marocain... Wow is all I can say. For a bit I was thinking it might be too masculine for me but I'm changing my mind...

I think Nuit de Tubereuse should be wedding friendly- it's quite light and radiant as far as tuberose goes (plus it will have faded a fair bit by the afternoon.) Amarige is definitely out, as is my little sample of vintage Poison Grin

I meant to say, Fuzzy, so glad that someone else finally agrees with me that Cabochard is like Knize Ten!

No worries Fuzzy! Yes, LADDM is a bit of a grower isn't it. Love the middle and drydown with the herbs. The beginning is very sharp/masculine.

SOTD: Cacharel Eden

Ooh, I just remebered something I've been meaning to ask you lot: Any fragranced non-perfume products (not food) that you love the smell of? I thought of this when I used my James Brown Photo Fabulous hair conditioner. I really like the smell. It's quite unusual as far as hair products go, quite incensey..

Also like the standard blue Comfort fabric softener smell.
