I'm definitely doing the squats wrong, and I can't do press ups.
Even so I'm feeling more toned and my arms are not as gruesome looking.

Phew! So, I took a two week break from "shredding" (for my honeymoon Grin). OMG, my muscles are so stiff after only doing level one. It hurts when I laugh. I thought muscle was meant to have memory? Clearly my muscles have amnesia!

I commented on this thread ages ago as a diehard JM fan - have a LOT of her DVDs, and DH does most of them too!

So delighted that so many of you have got great results. I came to JM wanting a physical challenge rather than needing to loose much weight. I was already fairly fit, but the great thing about this format is it's flexibility. If you are unfit, then use light weights and the easy version of everything. If you fit then ramp up the weights and do back-to-back sessiosn (i.e level 1 and then Level 2 shred.) If you get a range of the DVDs then you can chop and change workouts to avoid boredom, which can put off lots of people. I have definitely toned my body through this approach, and am much stronger. Don't be afraid of continuing to push yourself by upping the weights - you will not bulk up. Women need to be eating a highly modified dieat and literally lifting their own body weight to bulk up scarily - we are simply not designed to. I am working using a mixture of 5kg and 7 kg now, with the ocassional drop down to 3kg for things that are my nemesis (like squat and v raise....) I am not Fatima Whitbread!

Keep it up.

i need a kick up the back side. i was saying i was going to start again ages ago and keep putting it off! cos i have memories of trying to do it with the baby in the highchair, and she would keep squealing, then i would put her down and still try to do it but she would be hanging on to my leg. she is one. so my choice is to do it before she gets up (she is often up at 6 so thats out), after she goes to bed (out, as im sleep training her and i fall into bed myself after that) or in the few hours my exdh takes her ... (she doesn't nap much)

so thats what i have to do. please motivate me, tell of all your good results! i used to be so fit and active i can't believe the only exercise i do now is walking up and down the stairs, especially since i am driving now. how long does it take to get fit? i could do wiht strengthening my back and arms for lifting my dd. talk me into this!

Would the Shred piss off my downstairs neighbour? If so, this is one fitness effort that might have to wait.

jan2011 · 26/09/2012 15:29

i don't think so, buy one of those thick matts and you should be fine. you can always do the exercises with less impact.

writing that post motivated me and i did it this afternoon! i already have an underlying level of fitness so didn't find it too bad, but i feel great! im so glad i did it, it helped my mood and energy so i will surely be trying to get into the way of it again.

Thanks, jan.

And keep up the good work Smile
