Hmm now I'm thinking I ought to dust off my shred - I've got 18 days until my holiday and could really do with something drastic happening to my body before then!

Trouble is, and yes I know it's only 20 mins, but I really don't know where I'd fit it into my day. I already do quite a bit of exercise and I'm not sure if I should give up on that for a bit and replace it with shred or just try and squeeze it in - what's this ripped you speak of??? How long does that take - I'm liking the sound of rock hard abs!

Ripped in 30 is like The Shred + 1 - the first level is about the same intensity as Level 2 of the Shred and it gets nuts quite quickly. Same format too: three levels of 20ish min circuits with a deranged Jillian mooing encouragement/threats at two impossibly fit 'ladies' with the muscle tone of Staffordshire Bull Terriers, whose 'butts' Jillian repeatedly threatens to spank/bounce quarters off/take bites out of, etc.

wildfig · 04/07/2012 15:29

When I say 'ladies', I'm not impugning their ladyhood - it's just what Jillian calls them. When she's not calling them her 'best girls'.

I love Jillian

I have to switch it to "music only" cause she irritates the fecking life out of me! But the workout is great - hard enough but still doable.

On the back of reading this thread I have ordered Ripped in 30 today.

I have approx 30 days until I have to wear a teeny, weeny bikini. So we shall see!!!!!! I am slightly afraid of RI30!!!

Ah, some fellow Jillian fans... I love the description of her as a firm PE teacher type, which is very true. She also (unsurprisingly) reminds me of the PT trainers from my military days. I have a bit of a girl crush on her tbh. My body is very different since I have started regularly using her DVDs, and I was already doing plenty of fitness (running; tae bo; pilates etc.) It works!! DH loves her DVDs too, and we do them together a coule of times a week (with him using heavier weights so he feels all manly Wink) It has also transformed his torso - looking ripped!

I like Jillian a lot - I was amazed at how non-annoying I found her, even doing the DVD nearly every day. I really liked Shredding but it's wrecked my knees and my old house isn't really conducive to star jumps. If I had a warehouse gym like Jillian's and bionic joints, I'd have a stomach like a microplane grater. Sadly, it's creaky floorboards, yoga, and a stomach like mozzarella for me...

Been doing 30 day shred DVD for last 10 days. Combining it with my running which I have done for some time. So roughly, do shred for 2 days then on 3rd day I do a run.
Am a size 8 so not looking to lose lots of weight, just to tone up. Am doing level 2 which I find hardcore enough for now!
I work full time and have 2 DC so the fact it's only 20 mins is the big pull for me.
I find jillian a little irritating but can live with it for abs like hers!!

It's not only 20 min people! The 3 levels vary between about 27-28min if you do the warmup and cooldown. Plus, there's annoying waffle at the beginning that you can't skip, so I try and remember to start the dvd before I get my exercise gear on.

Is it very lungey? I think it would destroy my wonky knee.

I get very intrigued every time I read one of these threads, but we live in an old house with people in the flat underneath us; it wouldn't be fair on them, would it?

It is very lungey.

Meggles76 · 04/07/2012 20:45

Yes to lungey!! If you have knee problems i would steer clear. DH did level 1 with me first couple of times I did it. He suffers with his back and this aggravated it.

well, im eating my words - for the last 2 and a half years i have run and i go to the gym, but i started doing the shred 2 weeks ago.
so far, ive lost 6lb. im seriously impressed. i have about another 4lb to go to get to my first goal of 10stone.

im finding it very do-able as its so quick, but it certainly gets a sweat on! though i am finding level 3 easier than level 2....

I have done 5 sessions of the shred and it has given me a clicking knee when I walk upstairs :( and both my knees hurt. I have hyper-mobile joints (especially my knees) and it's just too much for them. Gutted as I was enjoying it!

Eek you have all made me order the dvd [impressionable] - I'm a bit scared now. Am a size 16-18 and pretty unfit. But desperate to get into better shape. How heavy are the handweights I should be using? Maybe I should order some before my dvd arrives from amazon.

just done it again today

Shock

wondered if it was safe as my muscles were aching so much, but so many of you do it every day i thought it would be fine

it does make you feel GREAT afterwards though, must be endorphines (sp?)

does anyone know how many calories it burns?

mrscoob wow well done did you diet at the same time?

I did it 2 nights ago for the first time (level 1) and my arms are still killing me! I did it last night but didn't use the weights. (I thought i'd let my arms recover!) I'm going on holiday at the beginning of September and i need to lose about a stone!

I do feel good afterwards - energised somehow, despite all that effort (and the fact I'd rather have been sitting on the sofa with a bag of crisps!) Must get back to it.

jeanvaljean · 05/07/2012 13:04

Had a go at Level 1 last night and thought I wouldn't make it past the warm-up Grin I'm in a flat so the jumping jacks and skipping aren't very neighbourly. The variety is good, I could see myself getting into it if only I could find a way of doing it without thudding up and down.

Report
notyummy · 05/07/2012 13:57

It doesn't actually burn that many calories (will depend on your size, obviously.) It builds lean muscle though, so that means you are burning more calories all the time, hence it is a weight loss tool.
