Just got one off Ebay for £6.00!

notyummy · 23/07/2012 16:35

Fainting- have a look on you tube and search for 'good squat form.' basically you need to imagine you are sitting down in a low chair.Wiggle your toes as you sit back to make sure you are putting your weight back into your knees and not forward to toes. You should be bending at the knees, not waist.

chollockbops · 23/07/2012 17:19

Thanks moosemama - I shall persevere! Found it fine today but then I was using 2 tins of tomatoes rather than weights. Ahem.

Speaking of which, what weights do people use? I've ordered some 2kg ones- should that be enough?

Glad I found this thread- I've been putting off post-baby exercise for far too long. Sigh.

FaintingGoat · 23/07/2012 20:04

Thanks Notyummy will do that.

tickleme63 · 23/07/2012 20:08

I started this this evening with DH! Level one and we're both sweating buckets (although that's not that hard given the heat!). Didn't feel it too badly, apart from in my knees! I reckon they're gonna be sore tomorrow...

Meggles76 · 24/07/2012 00:10

Lol Yankeecandle DH is also frightened by my leg muscles!! I am just impressed by them. Never knew they were there before now!

DialsMavis · 24/07/2012 07:26

Did level 2 day 2 last night (in a vest and pair of DPs boxers due to the heat) & I am feeling it today... Nowhere in particular, just a slight "hit by a truck" feeling all over. I can see myself getting more defined in places, but at the same time I seem just as flabby! I havent lost weight for a few days either, so it's heartening to read on this thread that that might come suddenly at the end. How are all the injured people? Smile

jan2011 · 24/07/2012 08:11

to people who've been doing this for awhile, im not looking to bulk up my legs or arms, im quite happy with how they look. im just looking to get rid of some flab round my tummy and back fat - but not really wanting to lose much weight. do you think this will work for me? awaiting dvd rippedin30!

HazleNutt · 24/07/2012 08:20

FaintingGoat, yes, you need to stick the backside out. Imagine using a filthy public toilet, the hovering over seat/ski-jump position.

I have the 30 day shred, but I only do it 3 times a week as don't have time and my muscles need time to recover inbetween! Did level 3 for the 1st time on sunday morning and still aching now (altho did play tennis and badminton with kids for ages on sunday too). Am hoping that 3 times a week is enough. Am noticing the difference in my arms. Am seriously impressed at my ability to do full press ups which I NEVER would have thought I could do!

FaintingGoat · 24/07/2012 09:07

Thanks HazelNutt, that's a lovely image, and very helpful - do I have to pull the appropriate face too? Grin

I have only done it once, on Sunday, I am going to do it again today. My calves didn't ache as much as I thought, but the fronts of my legs do, and my pecs! I only used tins as weights but they seem to have done the trick for now - they were chickpeas, I wonder if that makes a difference? Wink

worldgonecrazy · 24/07/2012 09:17

jan2011 if you just want to lose some body fat I'd recommend the Burn Fat Boost Metabolism (BFBM) DVD. There aren't a lot of strength exercises apart from a couple of core workout ones. It's all about burning calories and fat.

If you use light weights, such as 1.5kg, you won't really bulk up on your arms, just tone them more.

HazleNutt · 24/07/2012 09:54

face optional, FaintingGoat, but yes it helps :o

jan2011 · 24/07/2012 10:00

thanks world, i already have loads of fat burning stuff so not going to buy more just yet but will keep it in mind. it hasn't made much difference - maybe just need to crank everything up a gear.

DialsMavis · 24/07/2012 12:24

Just about to do level 2 day 3, but as the day has gone on I think my knees are feeling a bit funky. So, I will be extra careful with form Smile

FaintingGoat · 24/07/2012 19:37

Hazelnutt Your advice was brilliant! I opted not to do the face, I was too busy sweating.

I used the tins again, this time I used spaghetti hoops instead of chickpeas as the tins were 10g heavier! (It all helps.)

I found it harder today I think, but wasn't quite as jelly-like afterwards :)

DialsMavis · 25/07/2012 09:23

The Shred is making me FATTER! After months of dieting, I last week managed to get back into the healthy range for BMI, now I have slipped slightly back into overweight. I am dieting and lost a kilo last week, which is about what I expected, but I have put it back on. I was prepared for the fact my weight loss on the scales may reduce or stall, but I wasn't expecting to gain any!

Have any of you seasoned shredders experienced this, and then go on the have all the weight melt off magically the week after? I didn't measure inches before I started, but surely even the weight staying the same thing people have mentioned should only happen in those without any to lose? (thanks for the rugby player genes Dad, i thought I had only inherited the legs!)

worldgonecrazy · 25/07/2012 09:42

dials muscles is denser than fat and will therefore weigh more than the equivalent amount of fat. So if you are turning fat into muscle you will weigh more.

You can purchase body fat weight machines (try argos) which work out what your real BMI is, rather than just doing the height/weight measurement which can be extremely inaccurate. For instance, my husband height/weight ratio BMI is 35 but his actual BMI is 28 because he is carrying a lot of muscle.

I'd recommend doing the measurements. My weight hasn't changed except for a couple of pounds, but I have lost 25 cm so far overall from my underbust, waist, neck, tummy, hips and thighs.

DialsMavis · 25/07/2012 09:58

I am really enjoying the shred, so I will continue and measure myself from today (day 11). It's just a bit disheartening that I am back in the fatty section! The eat more threads on here say that I should be eating my exercise calories on MFP and actually eating more than MFP says I should or you can go into starvation mode. I have been eating a lot less than my allowance, but in all honesty don't think this is an issue as I am not feeling hungry. I think my body fat % is still pretty high, I can still grab loads of it and I think it was around 30% when I started.

DialsMavis · 25/07/2012 09:59

Your inch loss is amazing by the way! I have lost 20kilos and not even gone down 2 whole dress sizes. I was a 16 after DD was born and am still a 14 in some things now Smile

jan2011 · 25/07/2012 16:32

got my dvd today excited to start when i can....hoping not to gain too much though by way of muscle! inches of fat loss is wat i need

Shock Coconutty- that is amazing.

RancerDoo · 25/07/2012 21:41

I love the shred.
I have a ft very demanding job, two kids, two cats, an overgrown garden and a falling down house.
I have very little time to exercise.
I also have a size 12 pair of trews that are are supposed to be baggy but are like sausage skins. Jillian is going to help me with tht. Preferably before I go on holiday in a little over two weeks...
