I have been reading .....

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/1156122-Project-Princess/AllOnOnePage

Fab thread and so inspiring!

Is anyone still doing this?

I am trying to add in the good habits from the thread into my life and wondered how well all the posters had done in their changes?

Hello,

I ran for 30mins this morning and then had a shower and put on a hair treatment (Aussie 3 minute Miracle - i'll get an oil when that runs out). Then I body moisturised, face and put on eyecream. I'm wearing a dress and put my hair up. Now i'm eating Porridge and Manuka honey and have 3 bottles of 500ml water next to me.

Iwould I have pretty low self esteem as well, and often just bum around in an old tracksuit etc, it's made worse by the fact that i work from home, so don't need to see anyone but DH. I think if i looked better, ate better, exercised etc id feel a lot better in myself. Already after 2 days of running in the AM im feeling better, and I even slept well last night, which is a miracle for me!

ForwardOcho · 02/11/2011 10:55

OOh. Just read the whole original thread. What a great bunch of women. I so could have done with you earlier this year. I managed an emergency wedding in July 2011 (arranged in 10 weeks) as DP was diagnosed with cancer and I panicked. Anyway, now DP is DH and has nearly finished chemo, and seems to be doing well. I, on the other hand, rarely go to the gym and mainly eat scones. Can I join?

catinboots · 02/11/2011 11:19

All welcome Forward

Karbea - how do you manage to get up and run on these dark mornings?? I'm impressed. I have to get up at 6.30 for work anyway so would have to get up at 5.30 if I want to exercise Confused

I was doing it last year in the run up to my wedding but I've stopped now and put on a stone Blush

I tanned last night and am now on day 3 of low carbing. I also just paid my money for the MN christmas meet-up so have a goal to look forwards too...

HellonHeels · 02/11/2011 11:27

I never do much beauty stuff so I fancy having a go. Hello all! Am a bit of a skeptic and hate being told what to do so it might be a bumpy ride...

  1. 8 glasses of water a day hmm not really convinced about this but will up water intake
  1. Exfoliate - used nice soap and glory moisturising scrub; bought new synthetic scrubber sponge thing, love it!
  1. Use teeth whitener - can't do teeth whitening due to tooth enamel problems.
  1. Use anti-aging face cream - I'm just putting on moisturiser which is enough of a shock to the system.
  1. Intensive nail care (feet and hands) hmm well, I re-did toenail varnish and filed my nails and put on moisturiser. Getting there.
  1. Use eyelash growth serum OR eye cream. Won't be doing that. My eyelashes are lovely anyway. No eye cream, but have used moisturiser for first time in months.
  1. The Shred / other intensive exercise - need to attend gym or swim more regularly but with long commute I often feel too lazy.
  1. At least 2 extra fruit & veg - already eat lots of F&V well over 5 a day, don't think I need more.
  1. Healthy breakfast daily. Always do this.
  1. Hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc) have to build up to this. But have had a hair cut!

  2. No alcohol during the week ha ha no way. I don't drink most days but I'll drink when I like!

  3. Daily vitamins nah have healthy diet instead.

  4. Body brushing - what is it?

  5. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week. Will do once. Don't really approve of farmed salmon.

  6. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM. yet to come!

  7. Regular hair removal. Getting there...

  8. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps it's enough of an effort doing all the above. Not yet!

  9. No more fizzy drinks See 17

  10. DAILY body moisturising am doing it for first time in months.

  11. Warm water with lemon first thing in the a.m. My mum does this, it automatically puts me off it. What's the purpose of it?

HellonHeels · 02/11/2011 11:29

I must admit I do feel better for the tiny little changes I've made. Had a big meeting this morning and felt much more groomed and de-scruffed. My current workplace is far less image conscious than my old place and I have been letting standards slip.

Please please can someone tell me what is the point of the lemon and water thing?

iloveeverton · 02/11/2011 11:33

Forward welcome- hope your dh treatment is going well.

I'm a bit orange this morning from the tan so going to have a good scrub and try and lighten it!

Crest white stripes came yesterday but they seem to make my teeth feel very sensitive? Will that get better?

iloveeverton · 02/11/2011 11:37

Think water lemon helps cleanse digestive system? Not sure. Had colonic once biggest waste of money ever and she seemed to push the water lemon thing?

I'm going to give up sweets- bit sad at 30 but I buy them to up my energy levels.

HellonHeels · 02/11/2011 11:44

hmmm I suspect water and lemon might fall into pseudo-science territory.

architien · 02/11/2011 11:55

I think it might be worth a try. I think my skin is better with it and if nothing else it's a great shot of fresh vitamin c first thing in the morning which can't be a bad thing this time of year.

ForwardOcho · 02/11/2011 12:43

Right. Have great big scary project plan to do, so obviously, its much better to do this.....

  1. 8 glasses of water a day - Oh God. Never drink water. Only drink tea. And wine
  1. Exfoliate - Mmmm - Which bits? Feel face is too dry & sensitive. Rest of body? OK, I'll consider it.
  1. Use teeth whitener - Ah. Could do this. Have trays, stuff may be well out of date. problem is, length of time to wear them prevents consumption of tea.
  1. Use anti-aging face cream - Oh God.
  1. Intensive nail care (feet and hands) - Not too bad at this. Have a proper ridge removing buffer thing, but really should use it more.
  1. Use eyelash growth serum OR eye cream. - Tried a free sample of eye cream once and got puffy eyes so stopped. Advice & recommendations for eye cream for very sensitive eyes would be good. Am currently applying DHs chemotherapy eye drops daily to counteract effects of Givenchy mascara. Probs not what NHS had in mind....
  1. The Shred / other intensive exercise - Bored with spinning after many years, started Zumba. Love it. Must go more than once per week.
  1. At least 2 extra fruit & veg - Oh God. You mean 2 + 5 = 7?
  1. Healthy breakfast daily - porridge season - maybe stop putting chocolate chips in it?
  1. Hair oil (moroccan hair oil for eg, or kerastase etc) - Does Aveda smooth infusion count?

  2. No alcohol during the week - Oh God.

  3. Daily vitamins - Sceptical 'bout this

  4. Body brushing - Aha! Have got a body brush!!!!

  5. At least 2 servings of salmon or other fatty fish per week. - DH tries to insist on this. Will capitulate. Makes my open plan house smell though

  6. One early night once a week. Suggest 9PM. - Would LOVE this. If I go to bed at 9.00 every night can I be let off some of the others?

  7. Regular hair removal - shave legs and pits daily (I know, but its too late now) Must book bikini wax

  8. Give up one naughty favourite item e.g. chocolate/crisps - Never eat crisps, so it must be chocolate.

  9. No more fizzy drinks - HURRAH. I never drink fizzy drinks.

  10. DAILY body moisturising - oh, ukky, sticky, disabling. Have got Avon Skin So Soft spray dry oil for midge repellent when in Scotland. Will use that.

  11. Warm water with lemon first thing in the a.m. I really really don't think I can face this.

I can see I haven't scored too well here. Will report back tomorrow, maybe on moisturising.

HellonHeels · 02/11/2011 13:16

Ocho

No. 17.

Don't be daft - give up crisps!!! You already did it :)

BlackSwan · 02/11/2011 13:37

flipflopflap, we all fall off the wagon occasionally, so long as that's no excuse to let things go completely off the rails, it's AOK.

Karbea - taking care of yourself & dressing in anything but your track suit does make a real difference to your self esteem. And over time, cumulatively, it makes a big difference all round.

Someone asked about Imedeen further up the thread - I have been taking this, on and off for a good 10-15 years now. At the moment I'm trying Perfectil for a change, but I really think Imedeen is worth it.

Hi Forward, what a rough year for you and your DH. Hope the treatment is successful and you can both put this behind you soon.

Hellonheels, lucky you having great lashes to start with! Yes, the lemon water thing may be psychosomatic, but it can't do any harm. Actually, the acid is probably not that great for your teeth if you really want to take exception... but it's not going to kill anyone.

I tried my new mud mask last night while 21 mo DS was bathing, he thought I looked very silly. It wasn't on long enough to make a real difference. Copper peel today. Hoping I don't burn my face though...

ForwardOcho · 02/11/2011 14:31

Hellon Clearly, I have a lot to learn. I know you will all help me

bigkidsdidit · 02/11/2011 14:43

I just went tk boots and bought dettol, imedeen, new toothbrush, body scrub, and asked about rapid lash. I half expected the woman to say oh are you princessing? Grin

Going to do dettol bath tonight . at home for a few days with a weepy clingy sick DS so can't wait till DH comes home tonight and I can lock myself away for a scrub and a polish. I am eating well, drinking lots of eater and taking my vits though. And twice round the park while he napped too :)

ForwardOcho · 02/11/2011 14:45

This project plan is excruciating. I was thinking about the princesses' palace - what would THAT checklist look like?

Mine would have to include:
Empty cat litter every day
Have no crispy/slimy bits at bottom of fridge
Have no things in laundry basket which have been there for more than 6 months two weeks

bigkidsdidit · 02/11/2011 14:48

What are your fake tan recommendations black swan? I'm quite pale and scared of looking alarming so haven't bought any yet

perceptionreality · 02/11/2011 14:55

My beauty therapist says that St Tropez is the best spray tanning system. I've never had one I must admit but it's something I will definitely have done on me after Christmas as it's part of my course.

catinboots · 02/11/2011 15:02

I have fake tropez sprays - I'm also pale and they look the most natural IMO.

If I'm tanning myself, I use Avon gradual tanner (at night, then wash off in the morning as ity has that fake tan smell) and Garnier facial spray tan.

I don't think I look orange

catinboots · 02/11/2011 15:02

The St Tropex salon spray also wears really evenly

bigkidsdidit · 02/11/2011 15:04

Can you get Avon anywhere apart from a lady? Would prefer o do it myself

BlackSwan · 02/11/2011 15:56

Forward, that's so funny - I think princesses have the advantage of having full time staff to empty out the laundry basket. I have been thinking of a no wet towels outside the bathroom rule & imposing that on myself. Not hanging off doors or wardrobes or on radiators. No where.

St Tropez definitely the way to go. I had a salon spray & loved it, though I'm super pale it looked great. Daily tanner is also excellent.

Karbea · 02/11/2011 16:09

Hello.

One and a half bottles through my 3, need to drink up!

I work from home, so I was up at 7 ran for 30mins, it's much easier when you don't have a commute. Funny how most of the time i find an excuse not to though!

Umm afternoon has not been good, had a twix, peanuts and a cup of Earl Grey :S

catinboots · 02/11/2011 16:16

I think you can order AVON from the website

catinboots · 02/11/2011 16:17

Their gradual tanner is just as good as any of the more expensive brands and it's about £2 a bottle. I buy it in bulk!

HellonHeels · 02/11/2011 16:54

My Shred DVD is on its way to me! Must remember that it's not enough just to buy the DVD, I actually have to use it.

Oh yes, also bought a Yoga mag at lunchtime. Ditto!
